Abstract

The article presents a case study of four U.S. Army soldiers assigned in Afghanistan and Iraq who acquired visceral leishmaniasis (VL) during the course of deployment. The soldiers manifested symptoms of the disease caused by the parasites of Leishmania donovani-Leishmania infantum complex including fever, chills, anorexia, nausea, and diarrhea. Through the rK39 serologic test, their conditions were evaluated under the VL case and was treated with sodium stibogluconate for 28 days.
