The article summarizes the argument of U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts on the mandate under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2012 (PPACA) which requires most Americans to ensure that they have insurance coverage that meets federal standards and failure to comply with this mandate would result in a penalty. Among Roberts' arguments are, that the mandate is not a tax under the Anti-Injunction Act (AIA), that the mandate is a tax for constitutional purposes and that the Court can characterize what Congress enacted.
