The article focuses on the biographies which resulted from the interviews conducted by preservice teachers and young adolescents with local citizens who experienced life during World War II in the U.S. With the help of university students, the fifth graders are guided through several steps in preparation for the project. These include introducing them to the autobiographies written by student teachers, letting them write their own life stories, and having them read a book about life during World War II. Pictures and personal artifacts were brought by senior citizens during the interviews. After the interview, revising, collaborating, giving feedback, revising, polishing, and editing were performed.
