This section provides a comprehensive encyclopedic account of the Italian experience in the U.S. covering topics, issues, people, places, organizations, arts, among others. Italian immigrant farmers and farm laborers settled across the U.S. and had a diverse and significant impact upon U.S. agriculture and society. The Amato Opera is located in lower Manhattan. It is the third repertory opera company in New York City to have a permanent home. Licia Albanese was one of the first successful Italian opera singers in the U.S. Victor L. Anfuso was the first Sicilian-born member of the U.S. House of Representatives and achieved a distinguished career in public service. The American Italian Historical Association was founded in 1966.
