Abstract

The article presents a study on the capability of CXCL4, a platelet-derived chemokine, to downregulate the atheroprotective hemoglobin receptor CD 163 in human macrophages in the U.S. The study emphasizes the insufficiency of CD 163, a scavenger receptor for hemoglobin, in CXCL 4-induced macrophages which provides protection from atherosclerosis. The findings reveal the capability of CXCL4 to promote atherogenesis through the suppression of CD 163 in macrophages.
