This article investigates the hidden and under-researched phenomenon of child/adolescent-to-parent violence and abuse (CAPVA). Despite the attention given to spousal and child abuse, very little is known about why children abuse their parents or what can be done to prevent it. This article explores how this issue is explained, its effects on parents and carers and the different interventions that have emerged to tackle it. Based on in-depth focus groups with parents, grandparents and practitioners participating in a 'Who's in Charge' intervention in the United Kingdom, this article explores the complex intersection of parenting skills, intergenerational violence, gender, neurodiversity and the associated response (or lack thereof) from education and law enforcement. The article concludes with important new recommendations on 1) the need for better referral routes, 2) greater emphasis on neurodiversity, 3) very early intervention, and 4) the benefit of online platforms used during the COVID-19 lockdown for engaging parents and grandparents. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the pros and cons of WhatsApp communication service and its likely effects on consumer behavior and one's perception of luxury brands. Design/methodology/approach: This study conducted 27 in-depth interviews with UK-based participants. This study used NVivo12 to thematically analyze the collected data. Findings: The findings indicate that perceived communication convenience, searching for prepurchase information, intimate consumer–brand relationship, perceived self-worth and the thrill of a new service positively contribute to luxury customers' acceptance of WhatsApp communication usage. Nevertheless, many factors including push promotional strategy, poor service quality, brand "massification" effect, deficient sensory experience, fear of financial risk and deceptive practices, all curbed the participants' acceptance of this communication platform. When service is poor, all these factors jeopardized the luxury image, causing an impaired brand image, accompanied with negative word of mouth and in some instances, unexpected anticonsumption reactions. Research limitations/implications: This study carries the limitations of any exploratory and qualitative research. Therefore, future research should replicate this study in other areas and for other instant messaging platforms. Practical implications: The implications of this study serve as a reference for luxury brands' managers when managing their WhatsApp service. This study provides important insights into the risk of using WhatsApp by luxury brands to communicate with customers. The overall conclusion is that WhatsApp communication service requires a close, supervised and innovative use to benefit luxury brands. Originality/value: To the best of the authors' knowledge, the topic of WhatsApp usage as a communication mean in the luxury industry is still largely underexplored, hence filling a gap in the literature that needs to be addressed given its significant implications. As part of the modern generation of medical students and prospective future doctors of the United Kingdom's Nation Health Service (NHS), we have grown up in an age where smartphones and instant messaging applications (IMAs) are ubiquitous across all aspects of society. With IMAs being so familiar, we recognise their scope for facilitating our learning of the pre-registration syllabus and how their practical nature could potentially revolutionise healthcare worldwide. It is, therefore, rational to further investigate the benefits of incorporating such technology into these respective settings. In this article, we will further expand on some of the advantages highlighted by E. Colman & E. O'Connor that IMAs, particularly WhatsApp, have in the academic environment which resonate with us. We illustrate our views on IMAs being incorporated into health systems globally through exemplifying the NHS, using reviewed literature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Third-sector organizations, an important support for people living with HIV, increasingly use digital technology to improve service efficiency and reach. However, there is limited empirical evidence on this use by women living with HIV. The 4M Network (4MNet) is a peer-run UK-wide network of trained Mentor Mothers (MMs) living with HIV; it uses the WhatsApp platform as its primary digital communication tool. We report on a qualitative study about 4MNet MMs' experiences of using WhatsApp, to inform the design of future digital support services. Seven telephone interviews were conducted with five MMs and two project management team (PMT) members in February 2019. Interviews were analyzed using Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). WhatsApp was found to have several key features that provided both positive and negative use considerations. WhatsApp eased communication among MMs and supported participation in group activities despite differing schedules and geographic locations. Challenges encountered with WhatsApp included: financial restrictions to data storage and continual access; self-confidence using technology; and security and privacy concerns. Peer-led digital communication is found to be acceptable and effective for women living with HIV. Understanding barriers and valued features of existing digital platforms increasingly used among potentially marginalized groups is vital for informing inclusive innovation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• Individuals employ cognitive processes while facing information of uncertain veracity before deciding whether to share it. • Confusion functions as a trigger of uncertainty-related emotions and the formation of misinformation beliefs. • Emotional responses such as hope and confusion play an active role in contributing to the virality of (mis)information. This study examined how individuals' emotional and cognitive responses to different shades of truth embedded in health crisis (mis)information (i.e., full falsity vs. partial falsity vs. full truth) might predict their information vetting and sharing intentions on social media. In the context of COVID-19 and based on an online survey of 725 UK WhatsApp users, the key findings of our study include: 1) Various shades of truth in provided COVID-19 information directly triggered participants' sense of hope and influenced their intentions to vet and share the (mis)information they read; 2) Hope, confusion, and misinformation belief functioned as affective and cognitive predictors for whether and how individuals intended to share the (mis)information with immediate family members and strangers in their social networks. Multi-group mediation models further revealed the critical role hope played in evoking other emotions (i.e., confusion and anxiety) and forming misinformation belief, which in turn, led to varied (mis)information vetting and sharing behavioral intentions.
