The authors reflect on the importance of rare disease (RD) for pediatrician. They state that RD affects many children and its incidence and prevalence are often unclear. An overview of the reasons on the importance of RD to pediatricians in Great Britain are presented. They stress that families affected by RD must know that they are not alone and that their situation has been recognised by pediatricians and politicians.
