- Abstract
The booklet presents basic facts about child abuse. It is intended for the person who knows very little about the problem but wants to get involved in finding some solutions for the future. Initial sections touch on the nature and scope of abuse. Physical, emotional, sexual, social, and educational types of abuse are examined, and myths related to abuse are considered. The cycle of abuse is described as are behavioral characteristics of abusive parents and abused children. Legal knowledge and responsibilities regarding the reporting of abuse are summarized via a question and answer format. Long-term solutions include advocacy for children's rights, child development information and education, and self-help programs. A list of resources concludes the booklet. (CL)
