- Abstract
The book's practical classroom strategies and activities are designed to help teachers individualize instruction for children with developmental ages of 3-7 years. Part I offers suggestions for organizing the special educator's schedule and workload (including such topics as reviewing the individualized education program, developing a weekly schedule, homework assignments, and classroom assistance from parents and volunteers). In Part II, suggestions are offered for opening lines of communication in the classroom without increasing the noise level (including sections on the daily schedule, individual "prescriptions," silently requesting help, restroom passes, weekly chore board, and classroom rules). Thirty visual motor learning activities are outlined in Part III, and 18 long-term art projects are described in Part IV. Finally, Part V presents nine hands-on bulletin board ideas that the teacher can adapt to meet various learning objectives. Each activity is arranged according to objectives, materials needed, preparation, and procedural steps. (JW)
