TURKISH literature , *CULTS , *SECULARIZATION , *RELIGIONS , *SOCIOLOGICAL research , *MEMORY , *RELIGIOUS psychology - Abstract
The issue of the future of religion in the modern world is at the center of sociological debates. Although there is a widespread belief that religion is faced with important changes in terms of its institutional structure, scope of activity and its practical counterpart in social life in modern times, there are different perspectives on the nature of this change and its future direction. French sociologist Daniéle Hervieu-Léger is a researcher who made important contributions to this intellectual ground, which has become widespread as "secularization debates" in the literature and mostly developed within the framework of the discipline of sociology of religion. Hervieu-Léger, who is frequently cited in the international literature for bringing new definitions to religion and religiosity in the triangle of tradition, generation and memory, and for bringing a different horizon to the secularization discussions through these analyses, has not been made the focus of extensive research in the Turkish sociological literature. Focusing on the research question on which foundations Hervieu-Léger's sociology is built and what position she takes in secularization debates, this article aims to draw an intellectual portrait of Hervieu-Léger as a sociologist of religion. In this article, in which Hervieu-Léger was made the subject of a study for the first time in the Turkish sociological literature, besides her own studies, the works evaluating her thoughts from positive and negative aspects were also examined by the literature review method. It was concluded that Hervieu-Léger sociology could offer a new perspective to the secularization debates in Turkey in the context of both the concepts she focused on and the analyses she made. GENDER , *SECULARIZATION , *RELIGIOUS life , *RELIGIOUSNESS , *ACQUISITION of data , *RELIGIONS - Abstract
In this article, the relationship between secularization and religion is discussed within the framework of secularization theories. The study searches an answer to the question of, “What kind of secularization has taken place in Turkey?”. The aim of the research is to reveal the relationship between religion and secular life by using qualitative data. The article, which expresses the claim of the coexistence of religious and secular life, is believed to contribute to the discussions about religiosity today. The meta-analysis method was followed in the study. Since 2000, PhD and master’s theses with the theme of secularization and religion, which have been made with qualitative methods, constitute the universe of the research. In total, around 40 postgraduate theses were examined and necessary data were obtained from some of these theses. Restrictions such as region, age and gender are not taken into account while collecting the data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SECULARIZATION , *PRESTIGE , *CONCEPTS , *SUPERNATURAL , *NEWSPAPERS - Abstract
In Turkey, concepts of worldlinization and secularization are both used interchangeably in academic texts and in the media. The aim of this article, however, is to make a theoretical discussion to question this equation of “worldlinization=secularization” by making a critical reading. Secularization, which is the relative decrease in the social prestige of a previously-dominant belief in a supernatural realm, and worldlinization, which means prioritizing worldly affairs, signify two different processes. Just as the secularization of an individual does not have to result in worldlinization of her/his, not every individual who becomes worldlinized has to become secularized. This article proposes a new concept in order to indicate the problems of using these two concepts interchangeably and introduces new typologies based on this concept. The proposed new concept is “aworldliness”. Aworldliness is used to describe people who do not have worldly desires/ambitions. In this case, it is presented to the reader that contrary to what is claimed- an individual could be secular and at the same time aworldly. However, academic texts and newspapers in Turkey are conducting discussions through the dichotomy of other-world/this world. As a third way of life, they ignore that an individual may be both secular and not interested in the blessings of both worlds (the other-world and this-world). This article, for this reason, opposes this logical grid with the concept of “aworldliness” and it presents four different typologies to describe the differences of two concepts, secularization and worldlinization. According to these typologies, an individual can be both secular and worldly (Typology A), desecular and worldly (Typology B), secular and "aworldly" (Typology C), and desecular and aworldly (Typology D). SYRIAN refugees , *SYRIAN Civil War, 2011- , *FORCED migration , *SOCIAL influence , *SECULARIZATION , *PEER pressure - Abstract
Secularization, which has the characteristic of determining the language of the modern world we live in, means the weakening of the social influence of religion. This qualitative study, entitled Secularization, and Immigration Relationship: The Case of Syrian Refugees, aims to examine the relationship between secularization and migration through Syrian refugees residing in Istanbul. The relationship of secularization with the phenomenon of migration varies in different social structures. Therefore, it seems quite difficult to reach a general judgment in the relationship between secularization and immigration. However, we will try to reach certain conclusions about Syrian refugees. This study, which aims to analyze the relationship between secularization and migration, has emerged as a result of interviews with 15 Syrian refugees who were reached by snowball sampling technique. The main thesis of this article is that the Syrian refugees who started to live in Istanbul after the forced migration started to become secular. Frankly, Syria since March 2011 as the starting year of the civil war Syrian refugees have begun to migrate to Turkey. Since then, the influence of religion on the individual and social lifestyle of refugees has been declining. Behind the secularization tendency of the Syrian refugees living in Istanbul, there is the desire to adapt to Turkish society, to move away from peer pressure, to learn religion correctly in educational institutions, and to revise their relations with God because of the tragic events they have experienced. This study, which is based on qualitative data, consists of three parts. In the first part, the phenomenon of immigration with secularization theory with different dimensions is analyzed, and i n t he s econd p art, the interview data are interpreted. In the last section, the results are evaluated in terms of items. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ISLAM ,GLOBALIZATION ,SECULARIZATION ,ECONOMIC development - Abstract
The article discusses the implications of Mustakil Isadamlari Dernegi (MÛSÌAD), a business organization, on the relationship between Islam and globalization in Turkey during post-1990 period. It is inferred that globalization and secularization processes opened its doors to the rebirth of Islam in 1990s. A great deal of influence was also said to be carried by MÛSÌAD, a group of budding urban middle class Muslim entrepreneurs out to protect their values and traditions and contribute to the development of the economy.
