This research was conducted to see if using ChatGPT prompts students to think more deeply through reflection reports. The case study method and qualitative research methodology were used to carry out this study. Five graduate students in the Curriculum and Instruction department at Aksaray University's Social Sciences Institute who were teachers in various subjects and employed at various state school levels participated in the study. It was found that the majority of participants accepted all of the information presented by ChatGPT based on a citation as true, did not feel the need to control data reliability, and could be manipulated by ChatGPT while doing self-evaluation. Additionally, despite the fact that they prepared reflective reports in which they compared their essays with ChatGPT and included questions that prompted them to think critically and reflectively, as well as the fact that they had taken a graduate-level course on the teaching of higher order thinking skills, it was acknowledged that they could not demonstrate the expected performance in using higher order thinking skills other than to a limited extent. The onus should be on educators to pioneer positive examples of how to utilize ChatGPT and provide direction on how to harness its potential, supported by critical thinking, rather than to avoid using it and identify it as a tool to be avoided.

Designed by the Harvard University Project Zero team, Artful Thinking is basically a program that aims to improve students' awareness of art and increase their critical thinking skills by interpreting works of art and discussing them. In this way, students will acquire twenty-first century skills such as critical thinking and aesthetic understanding. The primary objective of this research was to investigate the impact of the Artful Thinking program on the development of critical thinking skills and attitudes towards art in 6th grade students, by implementing it as action research. This study was conducted in a middle school in Gaziantep, Turkey. 23 students and a Turkish teacher participated in the study. A total of twenty-four works of art (paintings, graffiti and ancient mosaics) were shown to students over eight weeks. Students expressed their opinions about each picture for 10-15 minutes. In order to make the students think in higher-order about art, the teacher asked questions prepared by the researcher. Thus, students were enabled to develop critical and higher order thoughts about the paintings. The findings from the students, teacher, and researcher indicated that the Artful Thinking program had a favorable impact on the students' perceptions of art, and that the students' cognitive abilities and capacity for articulation were enhanced by this program.

Mathematical reasoning has been a critical concern in Turkey especially since the structure of the student selection examination for high schools changed six years ago. The ability to solve the questions in the new exam requires high level reasoning and argumentation skills. Schools, whether they are public or private, prepare 8th graders for this exam with intense educational programs. They frequently use skill-based questions--similar questions to the ones in the new exam, which require high level mathematical reasoning. This study indicates that students gain better mathematical reasoning skills in learning environments promoting collective discussion and argumentation. Hence, these questions need to be solved in these kinds of environments. In this study, two cases are analyzed to understand the argumentation process in classrooms in depth. Audiotapes of two 8 th grade classrooms, one from a public school, another from a private school, are analyzed. The same teaching material--a worksheet including skill-based questions--is used in the classrooms. During analyzing, qualified argumentation pattern--a pattern including students' claims and justifications/evaluations for those claims--is defined. Analysis of classroom audiotapes revealed that that there are significant differences between two classrooms' argumentation structure and type of dialogues emerged in the classroom. In one classroom there is a more qualified argumentation process than in the other classroom. In addition, analysis of the type of the dialogues indicates that two classrooms have different types of dialogues. Overall, the study reveals that despite the differences, both classrooms mostly included teacher-individual interactions and they have little collective discussion.

Socioscientific issues (SSIs), which are an important component of scientific literacy in science education, are scientific-based issues with dilemmas and no clear answers. SSIs can be local issues that affect a region or global issues that affect the world. This study aimed to investigate informal reasoning (IR) patterns and their influencing factors on science teachers about local SSIs. The research was designed as a case study. The participants consisted of 38 science teachers from various provinces of Central Anatolia, where the local features of context were at the forefront. Teachers were asked to form an IR about the texts with dilemmas addressed to them. Using content analysis, teachers' IR patterns were based on rationalistic, emotive, and intuitive reasoning; factors affecting their reasoning were analyzed according to sociology-culture, environment, economy, science, technology, ethics-morality, and policy (SEE-STEP). In the results, science teachers mostly use rationalistic IR and rationalistic and intuitive IR patterns about energy-related local SSIs. While the factors that most influence teachers' IR regarding local SSIs are economy and environment, the factor that least influences their IR is ethics. As a result of the study, IR is closely related to the context and environmental/socio-cultural background that can influence IR. Based on the result that teachers' IR is affected by the content, the main suggestion of this study is to investigate the IR of different contents in local SSIs.

A new reading curriculum incorporating the principles of concept-based instruction and reading strategy instruction was designed and implemented for a previous study. Concept-based instruction was compared with reading strategy instruction to determine the impact of the new curriculum on language learners' reading and reflective thinking skills. The data revealed that the concept-based group performed better in reflective reading and thinking skills. The new curriculum involves the creation of a Schema of a Complete Orienting Basis of an Action (SCOBA) during reflection sessions. To explore the necessity of SCOBA creation, an experimental study with two groups was conducted, where only one group created a SCOBA. Both groups received concept-based reading instruction and were compared based on their reading, reflective reading, and reflective thinking skills. The data revealed that the groups performed similarly in reading and reflective reading skills, but the SCOBA group performed better in reflective thinking skills. The study sheds light on the importance of incorporating reflective thinking activities, such as SCOBA creation, in concept-based reading instruction.

This study aims to determine the self-efficacy perception levels of secondary school 8th-grade students towards computational thinking skills and examine the self-efficacy perception levels towards computational thinking skills in various variables. The study emphasises that positive attitudes and perceptions are necessary for computational thinking and that people should be willing to learn more about computer science. The study also aims to examine the relationship between students' achievement grades in Mathematics, Science and Technology, English, Turkish Revolution History and Kemalism course and their computational thinking self-efficacy perceptions. Thus, it will be determined that secondary school students' self-efficacy perceptions towards computational thinking skills are related to their achievements in which field type courses. The research was conducted in a quantitative survey model and single survey design. The Self-Efficacy Perception Scale for Computational Thinking Skills (SCCTS) for secondary school students developed by Gülbahar, Kalelioglu, and Kert (2018) was put into use. A total of 2247 secondary school 8th grade students, 1147 girls and 1100 boys, studying in Izmir province in the 2018-2019 academic year constitute the study sample. As a result of the analyses, the average self-efficacy perception score of 8th-grade middle school students towards computational thinking skills was above the average at 80.01 points out of 108 total scale points. It was determined that the self-efficacy perceptions of the participants differed in favour of female students according to the gender variable.

This study aims to explain the relationships between secondary school students' digital literacy, computer programming self-efficacy and computational thinking self-efficacy. The study group consists of 204 secondary school students. A relational survey model was used in the research method and three different data collection tools were used to collect data. The structural equation model was used in data analysis to reveal a model that explains and predicts the relationships between variables. According to the results of the research, it was determined that digital literacy of secondary school students affected their computer programming self-efficacy, digital literacy affected their computational thinking self-efficacy, and computer programming self-efficacy affected their computational thinking self-efficacy. It was also found that digital literacy skills have an indirect effect on secondary students' computational thinking self-efficacy on computational thinking self-efficacy.

Test development is a complicated process that demands examining various factors, one of them being writing items of varying difficulty. It is important to use items of a different range of difficulty to ensure that the test results accurately indicate the test-taker's abilities. Therefore, the factors affecting item difficulty should be defined, and item difficulties should be estimated before testing. This study aims to investigate the factors that affect estimated and perceived item difficulty in the High School Entrance Examination in Türkiye and to improve estimation accuracy by giving feedback to the experts. The study started with estimating item difficulty for 40 items belonging to reading comprehension, grammar, and reasoning based on data. Then, the experts' predictions were compared with the estimated item difficulty and feedback was provided to improve the accuracy of their predictions. The study found that some item features (e.g., length and readability) did not affect the estimated difficulty but affected the experts' item difficulty perceptions. Based on these results, the study concludes that providing feedback to experts can improve the factors affecting their item difficulty estimates. So, it can help improve the quality of future tests and provide feedback to experts to improve their ability to estimate item difficulty accurately.

This study investigates the application of the fuzzy logic method for scoring open-ended items, specifically comparing its effectiveness against traditional scoring methods. Utilizing the fuzzy TOPSIS method within the mathematics domain, this research established seven criteria for evaluating open-ended responses, developed in consultation with three experts. Due to constraints imposed by the pandemic, the study did not proceed with a real-world application; instead, it simulated data for 25 students to compare the rankings derived from traditional and fuzzy logic methods using the MS Excel program. The research produced three distinct rankings using the conventional method and analyzed the correlation between these rankings and those generated by the fuzzy TOPSIS method, employing the Spearman rank correlation coefficient. The findings reveal a significantly positive correlation between the rankings obtained through traditional methods and those acquired via the fuzzy logic approach, suggesting the latter's potential as an effective alternative for evaluating open-ended responses.

This study was carried out to develop a test to assess algorithmic thinking skills. To this end, the twelve steps suggested by Downing (2006) were adopted. Throughout the test development, 24 middle school sixth-grade students and eight experts in different areas took part as needed in the tasks on the project. The test was given to 252 students attending the sixth grade who were selected through purposeful sampling. The content validity of the test was ensured by means of obtaining expert opinion, whereas the construct validity was ensured by performing an independent sample t-test on the difference between the lower and upper groups. As a result, the algorithmic thinking skills assessment test was finalized with 22 main items and 2 sample items, totalling 24 items. The KR-20 reliability analysis proved a quite reliable test based on the reliability coefficient of 0.83. As mentioned earlier, the independent sample t-test was applied to the difference of lower and upper groups for construct validation of the test. It was seen that the test items are significant in discriminating the students in the lower and upper groups (p<0.01).

This study aims to develop a scale to measure the design thinking process and to evaluate the reliability and validity of this scale. It fills this gap by introducing a 36-item scale specifically designed to measure design thinking abilities across the five key stages of the design thinking process: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test, to provide an accurate assessment of individual abilities across these stages. Aligned with the well-established design thinking process, the scale comprises five sub-dimensions, each focused on a specific stage. It employs a 5-point Likert-type response format, ensuring nuanced feedback. Rigorous psychometric evaluations confirmed the scale's trustworthiness. Internal consistency within each sub-dimension was exceptional, with Cronbach's alpha coefficients exceeding 0.80 across all stages. Remarkably, the overall scale achieved an outstanding 0.95 Cronbach's alpha, signifying unparalleled cohesiveness and reliability. Validity was further established through rigorous statistical analyses. Exploratory component analysis (EFA) accounted for 60% of the variance, confirming the structure and demonstrating strong item-to-factor loadings (ranging from 0.31 to 0.74). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) provided additional validation, with all fit indices exceeding established benchmarks, solidifying the scale's accuracy and applicability. Beyond these impressive psychometric qualities, the study offers several key advantages. The concise 36-item format ensures efficient administration and analysis, while the five distinct sub-dimensions allow for targeted evaluation of specific strengths and weaknesses within each stage. This detailed feedback holds immense value for researchers, educators, and professionals seeking to cultivate design thinking capabilities in diverse settings. By providing a validated and reliable tool for design thinking assessment, this study empowers a comprehensive understanding of individual strengths and weaknesses across the five critical stages. This, in turn, enables targeted interventions and fosters the development of effective design-thinking skills in various contexts.

The Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking Figural Forms A and B are widely used to measure creative potential. Despite their common application in research, there has been a lack of focus on the psychometric properties of the tests. Thus, the scoring of the items is based on some unexamined hypotheses. The items are hypothesized to be equally difficult, and the response categories are hypothesized to be equally distributed. Additionally, it is hypothesized that the items measure a single cognitive factor for each creative thinking skill and that each creative thinking skill is a different cognitive factor. Given the impact of these hypotheses on the validity of the test scores, it is crucial to investigate these four hypotheses. In the present study, Rasch-based analyses and correlation analyses were conducted to examine all these hypotheses for Form A. The data were collected from 157 second-grade students in Turkey. The findings showed that a) the items were equally difficult for only elaboration, internal visualization, and humor; b) the response categories were equally distributed for only resistance to premature closure and elaboration; c) the items measured a single cognitive factor for each creative thinking skill; and d) certain creative thinking skills were highly correlated (r [greater than or equal to] 0.90). Overall, the items in Form A possess sufficient quality for assessing the majority of the creative thinking skills. Nevertheless, some revisions to the scoring of the items may be needed.

Engineering education aims to equip children with the skills to solve and apply complex problems. Problem-solving processes in engineering require high-level thinking and mind habits. Habit is a term used to describe various aspects of intelligence. Engineering habits of mind are the values, attitudes, and thinking skills associated with engineering. This research aimed to develop a scale to assess the engineering habits of mind of children ages 5-8. The study involved 417 children in two provinces in the southwest and northwest of Türkiye. We performed Explanatory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) for the scale's construct validity. The scale consisted of 35 items and six factors and explained 59.2% of the total variance. We called the factors "system thinking," "creativity," "optimism," "collaboration," "communication," and "attention to ethical considerations." According to the CFA result, the construct we obtain is reasonable (X[superscript 2]/sd= 1.97, RMSEA= 0.068, CFI= 0.93, TLI= 0.91, SRMR= 0.062). The item total correlations range from 0.43 to 0.66. We determined the Cronbach Alpha coefficient of the scale to be 0.94 and the test re-test reliability to be 0.87. According to the results, it can be said that the scale obtained can be used validly and reliably to determine the engineering habits of mind children according to teacher reports. The study contributes to the ever-increasing engineering habits of mind literature.

Multiple representations are widely recognized for their significant role in concept learning. This study aimed to investigate the multiple representation translation skills of high school students at different grade levels about the concept of one-dimensional motion. 239 9th, 10th, and 11th-grade students participated in the study using a developmental research model. The data collection tool consisted of questions that required translating figures, tables, graphs, verbal explanations, and algebraic representations into other representation types in a multiple-representation translation test focusing on one-dimensional motion. Data analysis involved evaluating the translation among representations for each category and analyzing the multiple representation translation skills across different grade levels using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results revealed that students successfully translated from figure, table, and graphical representations to other forms while encountering challenges in translation from verbal and algebraic representations. Furthermore, the ANOVA results indicated a significant difference between the 9th and 11th grades, favoring the 11th grade.

The concept of large-scale assessment has long been on the concern of the education system worldwide. PISA, which is one of the large-scale international assessment, has been administered in a number of countries worldwide since 2000. When PISA was first launched, there was an "unconditional acceptance" of this new application worldwide, whereas studies conducted in recent years show that all positive and negative effects of PISA are open to discussion and these discussions are increasing in number. Taking these as a starting point, the present research aimed to determine mother tongue teachers' views on PISA tests. Aiming to reveal how the changes created by the universal effect of PISA in language education are perceived and handled by teachers, this study was carried out with the relational survey method. The obtained categorical data were analyzed by frequency analysis and logistic regression. The study group consists of 98 teachers teaching mother tongue. In this research conducted to determine mother tongue teachers' views on PISA tests, teachers stated that PISA was effective in developing higher-order thinking skills in mother tongue lessons. In addition, according to teachers' opinions, PISA affects the assessment and evaluation process the most among the learning and teaching processes. According to the other findings, teachers stated that the question types in national tests changed based on PISA and they partially approved of this change. Also, they thought that PISA reading questions were incompatible with Turkey's education system, and they found Turkey's rise in the latest PISA reading skills ranking significant.

Demonstrating higher-order thinking skills is crucial for thriving in a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environment. In science education, inquiry-based learning has increasingly been recognized as a potent approach to stimulate students' higher-order thinking skills. While prior research has shown evidence of its positive impact on student achievement, no study has critically synthesized its effect on students' higher-order thinking skills in the context of science learning. Thus, this study conducted a meta-analysis following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol. The study extracted twenty-six (26) effect sizes from twenty (20) studies, involving 1,349 students exposed to both inquiry-based and conventional approaches. Using the Comprehensive Meta-analysis Software, effect size (Hedges g) was calculated to determine the magnitude of the effectiveness of inquiry-based approaches. The overall weighted effect size of g = 0.893 demonstrates that inquiry-based approaches have a significantly large and positive impact on students' higher-order thinking skills. Moderator analysis suggests that regardless of students' educational level, scientific discipline, or level of inquiry, the use of the inquiry-based approach in teaching scientific concepts maximizes students' higher-order thinking skills. Although various inquiry-based approaches were effective when combined with other instructional strategies for teaching scientific concepts, only a few studies integrated technology into the implementation of inquiry-based approaches in science. Given the positive findings of this meta-analysis, science teachers are further encouraged to adapt inquiry-based approaches to enhance their teaching practices and support students in strengthening their higher-order thinking skills.

The primary goal of advanced mathematics courses is to equip students with proof skills. That is why the competence of pre-service mathematics teachers in proof is considered an assessment of their performance. Despite the emphasis on mathematical proof in undergraduate education, students studying higher mathematics at university often face difficulties with proofs. Therefore, it is essential to examine students' perceptions and thinking processes regarding proof. Accordingly, this study aims to explore the types of proof perceptions and thinking processes of pre-service elementary mathematics teachers based on their Van Hiele geometric thinking levels. The study utilized the case study design, one of the qualitative research designs. The study group comprised 67 fourth-grade pre-service elementary mathematics teachers studying at a medium-sized education faculty in western Turkey. The study group was determined using the convenience sampling technique, one of the non-probability-based sampling methods. Van Hiele's geometric thinking level test, proof selection scale, and scale for determining proof thinking processes were employed as data collection tools. The data were analyzed descriptively. Consequently, it was found that pre-service teachers were predominantly at the fourth geometric thinking level and exhibited the B-proof perception type. Only a few students were observed to reach the level of proof in their thinking processes. According to the results obtained from the study, the geometric thinking levels and proof perception types of pre-service teachers significantly affect their thinking processes.

This article aims to adapt the Flexible Thinking in Learning (FTL) scale developed by Barak and Levenberg in 2016 to Turkish culture The FTL scale, whose original language is English, consists of three sub-dimensions: "Acceptance of Learning Technologies", "OpenMindedness in Learning" and "Adaptation to New Learning Situations". During the process, language and field experts conducted mutual translations between English and Turkish to assess the language equivalence of the scale. The original scale was supplied to English teachers to measure the degree of similarity between the original language (English version) and the translated language (Turkish version). After a fifteen-day interval, the same teachers were given the adapted version of the scale. The degree of similarity between the scale's original language and its Turkish translation was calculated. Once the scale's harmony was deemed satisfactory in both languages, a pilot study was conducted to receive feedback and suggestions on the comprehensibility, applicability, and general structure of the scale. After necessary improvements were made, the scale was finalized. The Flexible Thinking in Learning (FTL) scale, which was adapted to Turkish, was applied to 516 volunteer teachers. As per the findings of the analysis, the adapted scale has three sub-dimensions, just like the original scale. The measured structure of the adapted scale was found to be consistent with the original scale's factor structure.

This research aims to analyze the results of studies conducted in Turkey on reasoning skills in mathematics teaching and to reveal what kind of trend there is in this field. Within the scope of this study, databases were searched with the keywords "reasoning"(muhakeme, akil yürütme) and "reasoning skill" (Muhakeme becerisi, akil yürütme becerisi), and the results were examined in accordance with the inclusion criteria regarding mathematics teaching. One hundred sixty-three studies were included. Each of the studies included in the meta-synthesis study was analyzed descriptively according to type, year, method, sample type and size, data collection tools, statistical analysis, learning field, keywords, reasoning type and purpose. In addition, the studies' results were content analyzed and tabulated by coding the differences and similarities between them with a holistic approach. It has been determined that studies on the learning fields in the mathematics curriculum are mostly carried out in the field of learning numbers and operations in the secondary school mathematics curriculum. When evaluated in terms of reasoning types, almost half of the studies were conducted on mathematical reasoning. It has been observed that after mathematical reasoning, the most focus is on proportional reasoning. When the aims of the studies included in the research were examined, it was determined that the most focused ones were "examining the factors affecting reasoning skills", "measurement of reasoning skills" and "the effect of teaching practices on reasoning skills". In the studies examined, it was seen that there were 33 teaching practices whose effects on reasoning skills were examined.

Energy literacy has become acritical issue in recent years. The purpose of this study was to examine the contributions of epistemological beliefs to energy literacy in lower-secondary school students in Turkey. Data were collected via self-report questionnaires from 656 lower-secondary school students in the Aegean Region of Turkey. To address the research questions, Pearson correlation and multiple regression were implemented. Descriptive results revealed that students had a low energy literacy mean score in the knowledge dimension whereas they had moderate mean scores in the behavioral and affective dimensions. Multiple regression results yielded statistically significant contributions of epistemological beliefs to energy literacy. Analysis revealed that the reasoning dimension positively predicted the energy literacy in the knowledge dimension whereas the authority and accuracy dimension did negatively. The results of this study suggest that advancing students' epistemological beliefs can be a way to increase students' energy literacy levels.

This study investigated the effects of 3D model building activities with block codes on students' spatial thinking and computational thinking skills. The study group consists of 5th grade students in a secondary school in the Central Anatolia region of Turkey. For the study, a pretestposttest control group was utilized within the experimental design. A total of 66 students participated, 23 in the experimental group and 43 in the control group. While the activities prepared on the Tinkercad platform were applied in the experimental group, the courses were taught using the traditional teaching method in the control group. The study covers a period of three-weeks in the course information technologies and software. The study used the computational thinking levels scale and spatial thinking test scales as data collection instruments. The data was analyzed using both descriptive statistics and independent samples t-tests. Based on the study findings, there were no significant differences observed in the levels of computational thinking skills levels and spatial thinking test scores between the experimental and control groups.

Digital technologies are increasingly integrated into early childhood education (ECE), prompting discussions regarding their potential benefits and drawbacks. Research has shown that technology designed for children's developmental needs can enhance learning and development, while also improving communication between parents, teachers, and children. However, issues like access, equity, ethics, and teacher workload require careful consideration. This qualitative study explores the expected outcomes of integrating e-portfolios into ECE through one-on-one interviews with key stakeholder groups. After gathering general opinions, the participants were asked to provide detailed feedback on how the application affects children, teachers, and parents. In addition to revealing a diverse range of voices regarding the implementation of e-portfolios, this study aims to utilize the information gathered from participants for informed decision-making, offering valuable insights for the improved e-portfolio design and implementation. The study involved 34 Turkish participants from five stakeholder categories: ECE and primary school teachers, faculty members from ECE and primary school education departments, and parents. Results revealed that e-portfolios were viewed as highly beneficial, providing permanent and comprehensive documentation, facilitating data transfer to subsequent schooling levels, enabling multidimensional assessment, promoting child-centred practices, improving communication, enhancing reflective thinking and digital skills, and allowing resource utilization. However, participants raised concerns about workload, documentation gaps, and ethical issues. While e-portfolios hold promise for integrating digital technologies into ECE, current teacher education may lack sufficient training in key areas like digital literacy, documentation, assessment, and ethics. Further education in these areas can help ensure effective implementation and positive outcomes.

In the digital age in which we live, one of the primary goals of education is to nurture individuals who are capable of thinking creatively, solving problems, and being innovative and productive. Computational thinking is an analytical process that requires defining problems and at the same time solving these problems by proceeding in creative ways. Based on this possible pattern of relationship between computational thinking and creativity, the aim of this study was to determine how two different versions of the computational thinking approach (plugged and unplugged) affect 6th-grade students' creative problem-solving skills (CPSS). Thus, two different teaching modules were designed on the circulatory system with a focus on plugged and unplugged computational thinking. A quasi-experimental design was used. Experiment group 1 utilized the plugged teaching module, experiment group 2 worked with the unplugged teaching module, and the control group in the Turkish middle school science curriculum's inquiry-based science activities. All three groups participated in 16 h of lessons over a 4-week period. We utilized the Creative Problem Solving Skills Inventory (CPSSI) for data collection. The results demonstrated that both the plugged and unplugged teaching modules were more successful at enhancing the CPSS than the inquiry-based science activities. Furthermore the unplugged teaching module was significantly more successful in developing CPSS compared to inquiry-based science activities. Hence, this empirical study demonstrated that both plugged and unplugged computational thinking approaches can enhance CPSS, but also reveals the greater effectiveness of unplugged approaches in fostering middle school students' CPSS.

Problem solving is one of the high-level thinking skills and essential in teaching mathematical concepts and procedures. The eye-tracking method allows educators to see and interpret different problem-solving behaviours of students. The purpose of this study was to investigate the problem-solving behaviours of university students based on eye tracking statistics when faced with a geometry problem, and to explain these behaviours in terms of the students' success and learning styles. The research design was a case study approach that combined quantitative and qualitative data. Eight first-year students from the department of elementary mathematics education in a private University, Turkey, participated in this study. They were asked to solve a specific geometry question using the GeoGebra software. While solving this question, their eye movements were recorded and analysed using an eye-tracking program. Results were analysed to investigate their problem-solving skills and behaviours based on Polya's mathematical problem-solving stages. Results of the study suggest that the effort devoted to the understanding and planning stages of problem-solving are important factors that contribute to success in this case. Results also revealed that participated students with a converger learning style were more successful in each step of the problem-solving process. Additionally, it could be concluded that the input area had only been used by converger students, indicating that they devoted time and effort to creating and trying formulas.

This study aims to reveal the mathematical reasoning process of 8th-grade students and the reasoning indicators they use in this process. The study was carried out in line with the data obtained from the Mathematical Reasoning Test (MRT) administered to 292 8th-grade students. The mathematical reasoning performances of the participants were generally at low and medium levels. Evidence was found that students used reasoning indicators such as "… for/because of…, /therefore/so/thus…", "if … then…", "because…", "should be/should be..." and "equal..." when reasoning. It is important that when evaluating the solutions to questions that require mathematical reasoning, students must be interviewed and confirmed how they reached those solutions. The limitations of the research are, firstly, that it is limited to 8th graders, and secondly, that students will get bored if the number of questions in the MRT is high. Students must be asked to justify their reasoning while solving problems that require mathematical reasoning.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of the argumentation-based inquiry (ABI) approach on the analytical thinking skills and academic achievement of seventh-grade students using a mixed method. It was conducted in a secondary school in the Western Black Sea region of Turkey with seventh-grade students from two classes during the fall semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. Unit-based achievement tests, analytical thinking scenarios, and semi-structured interviews were used as data collection tools. The findings show that the application of the ABI approach in science classes is effective in improving the academic achievement of students. According to the analytical thinking test findings, a significant difference was found in favor of the experimental group in the post-test. The evaluation of the quantitative and qualitative findings revealed that the ABI approach used in science lessons had improved the analytical thinking skills of the experimental group students.

The purpose of the study was to determine the association between van Hiele geometric thinking levels and circular achievement exam results for middle school students in 7th grade. The design of the study was a survey method. 157 middle school students were participated into study from three different schools in Kayseri in the spring semester of the 2017-2018 academic year. Van Hiele geometry thinking test which was developed by Usiskin and adapted into Turkish by Duatepe (2000) and a circle achievement test that was developed by the researcher were used to collect the data. Pearson The circle achievement test and van Hiele geometry thinking levels were correlated to find their link. Assumptions were met, hence independent groups t-test and ANOVA were performed. The results revealed that Grade 7. Students van Hiele geometric thinking levels were lower than expected levels. A moderate correlation was found between the circle achievement test and the van Hiele geometric thinking test. The results obtained from the van Hiele geometry thinking test showed statistically significant mean difference across schools 1 and 2. Moreover, there is no statistically significant mean difference across schools at the circle achievement test. Boy and girl middle school students' geometry thinking levels and circle achievement test scores were not statistically significantly different from each other.

The relationship between highly desired 21st century skills, such as students' attitudes toward STEAM, critical thinking dispositions, and decision-making abilities, and the role of gender on these associations was investigated in this study. The data was collected from 4th grade students in the 2022-2023 academic year using the typical case sampling method. "STEAM Attitude Scale", "Critical Thinking Disposition Scale" and "Decision-Making Skill Scale" were utilized. The mediation model was estimated using the whole sample, followed by multigroup analyses that employed gender as the moderation variable. The results indicated that primary school students' attitudes towards STEAM, their critical thinking dispositions, and their decision-making skills were at a high level. The mediation analysis revealed that attitudes towards STEAM had direct effect on decision-making skills, and critical thinking disposition was found to be partially mediating this association. Multigroup analyses provided evidence for the significant moderating role of gender pertaining to the specified associations in the model. The findings provide insights into the importance of developing positive attitudes towards STEAM disciplines regarding their evidential effect on critical thinking disposition and informed decision-making skills in primary schools and the necessity of attending to the role of gender in future educational interventions.

This study was conducted to examine the effect of mathematical modelling activities on the mathematical modelling skills of secondary school students in the context of STEM education. The study was designed according to the embedded design, one of the mixed research methods. The study group of research consists of 66 eighth-grade students studying in a public school in the central district of a large province in the south of Turkey in the 2020-2021 academic year. While the criterion sampling method, one of the purposeful sampling methods, was used to determine the quantitative study group of the research, the maximum variation sampling method was used to determine the qualitative study group. On the other hand, in the context of STEM education, mathematical modelling problems, evaluation rubric and semi-structured interview forms were used as data collection tools in the research. As a result of the research; It was concluded that mathematical modelling activities in the context of STEM education positively improved the mathematical modelling skills of secondary school students. In addition, it has been concluded that the students who receive education with mathematical modelling activities applied in the context of STEM education gain different interdisciplinary perspectives, experience positive developments in their thinking skills, adapt to group work more easily, and increase their interest in engineering and technology.

An issue arising in emergency distance education procedures, such as the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, is a lack of appropriate high-quality content and course activities for high ability students suitable for distance education. In this study, online CAD-based learning experiences structured with the Tinkercad Circuits Platform designed for gifted students were investigated based on the opinions of students regarding the distance education activity and the evaluations of the students' scientific writing skills. This study used a single case holistic design with 10 gifted 6th-grade students at Usak Science and Art Center in Türkiye. All of the students stated that they had not previously encountered an activity such as the "smart air conditioning system". The students also stated that although the activity was carried out in the form of distance education, it was positive and fun to be application-based, and that it was fun to research, discuss, design, and code with Tinkercad to look for a solution to the given problem. The evaluation of students' products showed participants' high level of proficiency in activities requiring advanced problem-solving skills, including planning the solution to the problem, creating an alternative plan for the solution, realizing, and evaluating the design.

The aim of this research is to determine whether the use of augmented reality applications in the teaching of the subject of ''Geometric objects'' in the sixth grade mathematics class has an effect on the development of students' geometric thinking levels and spatial ability. The research was conducted using a pre experimental design, one of the quantitative research methods. The research was carried out with 15 sixth grade students studying in a state secondary school in Aziziye district of Erzurum province in the spring semester of the 2021/2022 academic year, for 15 class hours which each of the lessons consist of 40 minutes. While collecting data in the research, van Hiele Geometric Thinking Test, Middle Grades Mathematics Projects (MGMP) Spatial Ability Test and the Geometric Objects Achievement Test were used. Statistical package program was used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the analysis of the data obtained from the van Hiele Geometric Thinking Test, the MGMP Spatial Ability Test and the Geometric Objects Achievement Test, it was determined that there was a statistically significant difference between the pretest and the posttest in favor of the posttest. It concluded that teaching geometry with augmented reality applications had a positive effect on the development of students' geometric thinking levels and spatial ability, and in addition, it had a statistically positive contribution to their academic achievement. Therefore, in line with these results, it can be said that augmented reality-based teaching applications offer new opportunities for learning- teaching processes.

This study aimed at designing instructional material named Biotechnology Instruction Module (BIM) which is enriched with active learning methods to enhance the 8th grade students' learning of the topic. The development of the teaching materials proceeded within the stages of the ADDIE instructional design model. The final form of the instructional module comprised active learning materials of DNA Isolation Experiment, Bulletin Boards, 4x2 Biotechnology Learning Station, Case Studies Text, and "What Would You Do If You Were…?" activities. Instructional module covers the topics such as genetically modified organisms (GMO), gene therapy, cloning and bioremediation. The "Biotechnology Instruction Module" is expected to help students to learn in a meaningful way the rapidly changing and renewed biotechnology issues, to foster knowledge and understanding of key issues, to promote socioscientific discourse in class, and to encourage higher order thinking skills. All the data show that the instructional module applied in the real classroom environment is successful in realizing the learning objectives of the subject of biotechnology.

This paper examined how teachers' noticing skill affects the social and socio-mathematical norms they construct in the classroom. The study was carried out with four mathematics teachers working at a secondary school in the eastern regions of Turkey. A case study among qualitative research methods was used. The data of the research were collected via videotaped lessons. The data obtained from teachers' classroom practices were evaluated performing descriptive and content analysis. Research findings show that noticing skill positively improves secondary school mathematics teachers' ability to construct social and socio-mathematical norms. In addition, it has been noticed that social norms and socio-mathematical norms are not independent of each other.

This research aims to examine the effect of coding education on the analytical thinking skills of gifted students. The participants are 18 students, 11 to 12 years old. An embedded experimental mixed design was used in the research. The data collection was carried out with the Analytical Thinking Skill Scale to determine the difference in the analytical thinking skills of the study group before and after the coding training; the Analytical Thinking Skill Observation Form to determine the analytical thinking skill levels during the implementation process; and the semi-structured interview form to get their opinions on the coding training. The data were analyzed with a pre-test-post-test quasi-experimental design, descriptive analysis, and content analysis. The results show that coding education developed the participants' analytical thinking skills. The difference in the analytical thinking skills of the study group was not statistically significant in terms of gender. According to the students' views on the coding education application process, there was an improvement in the sub-dimensions of sorting, classification, comparison, and evaluation in analytical thinking skills; coding education developed problem-solving and thinking skills, was useful, encouraged students to choose a profession, and was entertaining, as well as negative opinions such as being difficult, boring, and requiring a lack of time.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of design-based STEM activities developed by prospective secondary school maths teachers on their problem-solving skills and scientific creativity. An explanatory sequential mixed methods design was used in the current study, involving 45 senior students (i.e., prospective secondary school maths teachers) studying at a state university in the West Black Sea Region, Turkey during the academic year 2018/19. The participants were selected according to a purposive sampling method to be involved in our study, which was conducted during a course named "Science, Technology, and Society," and the implementation stage, of which took a total of 14 weeks, as three course hours per week. The "Problem Solving Inventory" (PSI) and "Scientific Creativity Test" (SCT) were used for the purpose of obtaining the quantitative data of the research, whereas interviews were conducted with the prospective teachers for collecting the qualitative data. The quantitative data were analyzed using a dependent t-test, while qualitative data was analyzed by descriptive analysis. A slight increase was detected in participants' problem-solving skills in relation to developing STEM activities, though not statistically significant. However, as a result of the implementation process, the scientific creativity of prospective teachers turned out to increase in such a way that it indicated a statistically significant difference.

This study used the structural equation model to examine teachers' scientific epistemological beliefs, critical thinking skills, and beliefs about the distinction between science and pseudoscience. The study involved 730 teachers from 26 different subjects in different regions of Türkiye. Descriptive analyses showed a significant relationship between teachers' level of interest in scientific studies and their critical thinking skills. It was also concluded that critical thinking skills were high, but non-traditional understanding beliefs were low. Path analysis results showed that critical thinking skills were negatively related to traditional scientific beliefs. Furthermore, non-traditional understanding beliefs were found to be negatively correlated with pseudoscience beliefs. The results obtained were discussed in the light of the literature and suggestions were made considering the limitations.

This study examines the methodological dimensions of programming education articles published in educational sciences journals indexed in SSCI by exploring their general trends. To do this, 162 articles published between January 2012 and February 2020 in 30 international journals indexed in SSCI were analyzed with a systematic review method using the "Educational Technology Publication Classification Form" as a data collection tool. The results revealed that most of the studies in this field were conducted in the United States and Turkiye. The number of these studies has increased since 2015, and those studies were carried out using quantitative research methodology. Mostly questionnaires and achievement tests were used as a data collection tool, a convenience sampling method was used, and descriptive analyses were adopted to analyze the data. As a result, the articles examined in this study showed that programming education positively contributes to learners' learning and success levels and the development of their computational thinking skills. We believe that these results will shed light on future studies related to programming education.

The aim of this study is to examine 8th grade students' Van Hiele geometry thinking levels, proof writing and justification skills. The research was carried out with sixteen eighth grade students of a private school in Sivas. Participants were selected based on an easily accessible sample. The data were collected from the students who participated in the face-to-face teaching process in their schools and volunteered to participate in the research on the data collection day in the fall semester of the 2020-2021 academic year. The data collection tool is the Van Hile geometry test and the geometry proofing test. The document analysis method was adopted in the study. While analyzing geometry proof writing and justification test data, geometry proof writing test evaluation rubric and justification evaluation rubric were used. As a result of the analysis of the data obtained, there was a linear relationship between the students' Van Hiele thinking levels and their proof writing skills, while there was no positive relationship between their justification skills and their Van Hiele thinking levels and their proof writing skills. This qualitative case study investigates how, and to what extent, primary school teachers notice students' mathematical thinking in the context of whole number subtraction. A task involving a student's invented strategy was used to collect data. Three noticing questions connected to the task were asked to 45 teachers. Their written answers were analyzed to reveal teachers' noticing skills based on attending, interpreting, and deciding how to respond. The study results revealed that most participants provided limited evidence of attending and interpreting skills, and some responses showed a lack of evidence. More specifically, they could not identify the relationship between digits in ones and tens places. Further, their interpretations did not directly focus on students' solutions and consisted of general statements and misconceptions.

In studies over recent years, there has been an increasing interest in teachers' predicting middle school students' thinking processes. However, as far as we are aware, there are no studies examining students' thinking in terms of mathematical thinking components. This study primarily aimed to determine the mathematical thinking of middle school students. Therefore, the study examined how six mathematics teachers and 24 preservice mathematics teachers (from first to fourth grade) predicted the mathematical thinking of 96 middle school students. In this context, the predictions were categorized according to the sub-components of mathematical thinking: conjecturing, specializing, justifying and convincing, and generalizing. Regarding the "conjecturing," the teachers explained students' prediction of their mathematical thinking in more detail than preservice teachers. Regarding the "specializing," the study, both groups of teachers could not predict that the students could express different situations in their problem solutions. Within the scope of the "justifying and convincing," the preservice teachers had different perspectives on problem solving compared to the teachers. In regard to the "generalizing," teachers and preservice teachers made similar predictions but all groups from first to fourth grade lack experience for this component. It can be stated that preservice teachers' interaction with more students will be effective in predicting students' mathematical thinking. The same is true for teachers, as it is believed that greater experience will be beneficial.

The aim of this research is to develop a reliable and valid scale to determine the mathematical thinking skills of gifted students. In addition, with the developed scale, thinking skills of gifted students was examined in terms of various variables. In this context, the research was carried out on two different study groups. The first stage of this research was the development of the scale, and the data obtained from 410 gifted students. The second stage of this research was the testing process of the developed scale, and it was carried out on the data obtained from 393 gifted students. While developing the scale, confirmatory factor analysis, exploratory factor analysis, Guttman Split-half values reliability, Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient calculations were performed. As a result of analyses, the total variance percentage of the scale consisting of 16 items and four factors was obtained as 60.781%. It was concluded that the model obtained from confirmatory factor analysis applied was at an acceptable level. For the whole scale, Cronbach's alpha value of the scale was determined as 0.841. As a result of this study, a reliable and valid scale was developed to determine mathematical thinking skills of students. In addition, through the scale developed, it was concluded that thinking skills of the students showed differences according to gender, group, grade level and education status.

The aim of this study is to conduct a validity and reliability study for adaptation of the scale of learning strategies (the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire) to Turkish, which was developed by Pintrich, Smith, Garcia and McKeachie (1991) and adapted by Meijs et al. (2019) for distance education students. The Scale of Learning Strategies for Distance Education Students is a scale consisting of 25 items and 5 factors (management of time and effort, complex cognitive strategies use, simple cognitive strategies use, communication with others, and academic thinking). After testing equivalance of Turkish form, the validity and reliability studies of the Scale of Learning Strategies for Distance Education Students were conducted with participation of 411 students studying in different departments of Kocaeli University in the fall semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) method was used for the adaptation of the scale, the significance of the differences between item average scores of the groups over and below 27% were examined with Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficients, corrected item-total correlations, and t-test in order to determine the relability. As a result of normality test and first CFA, the 2nd and 6th items in the time and effort management sub-dimension were excluded from the scale in accordance with expert opinions due to fact that their standardized regression coefficients were not significant (p>0.05). When the fit indices were examined as a result of the analysis, the findings were as follows X[superscript 2]/sd =2.594, RMSEA= 0.064, SRMR= 0.0616, GFI= 0.894, NFI= 0.879, TLI= 0.908, CFI= 0.921 and IFI=0,922. The corrected total correlations of the scale items ranged between 0.37 and 0.68. The results of t-test applied to the scores of the groups over and below 27% were found to be significant for all items. Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the reliability of the overall scale was calculated as 0.915. Reliability for sub dimensions: Management of time and effort [alpha]=0,69; Complex cognitive strategy use [alpha]= 0,82; Simple cognitive strategy use [alpha]=0,87; Contacts with others [alpha]=0,76; Academic thinking [alpha]=0,88. A significant correlation was determined between the sub-dimensions of the scale and between the subdimensions and the total. According to these findings, adaption of the scale to Turkish is valid and reliable.

The present study aims to examine the effect of the flipped classroom model on the academic achievement and critical-analytic thinking skills of students from different socio-economic backgrounds. For this purpose, two schools in the same province, attended by children from families with varying socio-economic levels, were included in the study. The study sample consisted of a total of 82 students: 30 from a secondary school with students from a low socio-economic background and 52 from another secondary school with students from a high socio-economic background in the 2021-2022 academic year. The study was designed based on the quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control groups. Experimental and control groups consisting of one class each, and four classes in total, were selected from the schools using the random assignment method. The total application period was 9 weeks while the duration of the experimental applications was 7 weeks (28 class hours). In the present study utilizing Edpuzzle, an online platform, interactive videos were developed in accordance with the learning outcomes of the course. Data were collected using the 25-item "Sun, Earth and Moon Achievement Test" applied to determine the learning levels of the students and the 72-item "Cornell Conditional Reasoning Test" applied to measure critical-analytic thinking skills. In conclusion, it was revealed that although there was no significant change in critical-analytic thinking skills, the flipped classroom model provided a significant increase in the academic achievement and critical-analytic thinking skills of students from both socio-economic backgrounds.

This study was carried out to determine the effect of Scratch-based coding applications integrated into the 5E learning model used in science teaching on students' computational thinking skills and self-efficacy towards block-based programming. In addition, students' perceptions of the activity were measured after each Scratch activity, which was applied at different stages of the course and with different difficulty. The study employed the pretest-posttest control group less design, one of the quasi-experimental methods. The study sample consist of 22 6th grade students attending a public school in Turkey located in a district center in the Eastern Black Sea region. The study was carried out in a five-week period in the 2022-2023 academic years. Computational thinking scale and robotics attitude scale, self-efficacy perception scale related to block-based programming and activity perception scale were used as data collection tools. The data were analyzed using the dependent samples t-test. The findings suggest that computational thinking skills level of students and their self-efficacy perception related to block-based programming increased significantly with the Scratch-based activities integrated into 5E learning model applied in science subjects. In addition, students have positive attitudes towards these activities. Thus, it is recommended to apply Scratch-based coding applications in teaching science subjects.

Purpose: This study explores the relationships between the cognitive demands of the questions asked by a teacher educator (TE) and prospective teachers' (PT) capacity for critical thinking (CT). Design/Approach/Methods: Participants comprised a TE and 32 PTs. The cognitive demands of the TE's questions and PTs' CT were analyzed using a systematic observation approach. Findings: Results indicate that there are tangible connections between the increasing mental demand of TE questions and PTs' higher-order cognitive processing. The PTs achieved higher-order CT when the TE asked more cognitively demanding questions. For instance, when the TE's questions were pitched at the cognitive demand levels--namely, the analyze, evaluate, and/or create levels--the PT answers were longer and reflected higher CT, such as inductive reasoning, suggesting new ways of thinking, or legitimating the arguments of others. Accordingly, results suggest that intentionally subjecting PTs to sustained higher cognitive demands via questions may help them reach their optimal CT capacity. Originality/Value: Although proposed teaching strategies have been invaluable in proposing content-specific interventions for fostering the CT of university students, how lecturers should use their questions to conduct such interventions has been overlooked. This study addresses this gap.

This study is designed to reveal the research trends of graduate theses published in the field of computer programming in K-12 between 2018 and 2022. Document analysis was used for data collection in this study. The data was divided into 9 categories, and the results demonstrated that the scholars in the Departments of Computer Educational and Instructional Technologies (CEIT) at Atatürk University and Ondokuz Mayis University of Türkiye mainly published master's theses in this field in 2019. Another result was that though CEIT is also the main department for doctoral theses, no difference exists in terms of years or universities. "Teaching, learning, and training programming" and "computational thinking" are the most frequently used keywords in graduate programs, respectively. While quantitative and mixed method (parallel, convergent), convenience sampling, and psychometric scales are preferred in master's theses, mixed method (explanatory, mixed), purposive sampling, interviews/focus group interviews, and psychometric scales are preferred in doctoral theses, respectively. Observation and semi-structured interview forms are used as data collection tools in the theses. Although quantitative methods are mainly utilized in data analysis, parametric and non-parametric statistical tests are also used, and content analysis is resorted to as part of qualitative methods. Whilst validity and reliability studies have been carried out measurement tools are employed in master's theses, scales have been developed in doctoral theses. The present study also offers some suggestions for future research on teaching computer programming.

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of block-based coding education on middle school students' computational thinking skills and attitudes towards coding with Blocky example. The training phase of the implementation process was planned and implemented by subject experts in 4 weeks and 2 hours a week. In the research, both quantitative and qualitative research methods and exploratory sequential design were used as mixed methods. In this study, quantitative research method and pretest- post-test control group semi-experimental pattern model was used as the research model. The universe of the study consists of 5th grade students studying at a secondary school in Aksaray province Eskil district of Türkiye in the 2019-2020 academic year. Within the scope of the research, the research participant group was determined considering that 5th grade students will receive coding training for the first time. In addition to the total number of students to be reached is 38, including 19 control and 19 experimental groups. While the "blocky" application used in block-based coding education was determined as the independent variable in the research, the students' computational thinking skills and their attitudes towards learning to code were determined as dependent variables. As a result of the applications and analysis, the difference between the values of students' computational thinking skills self-efficacy and attitudes towards learning coding before and after education is statistically significant. In order to determine the effect size of the Blocky block-based coding environment on the Information Computational Thinking Skills Self-Efficacy Scale (CTSES) and the Attitudes Toward Learning Coding Scale (ATLCS), the eta squared value was examined. It can be said that the Blocky block-based coding environment has a "large" effect size on computational thinking skills, self-efficacy perception and on the attitude towards learning coding.

The aim of this qualitative study is to investigate experiences of master's students regarding children's development of 21st century skills during preschool period in Türkiye. This is a phenomenological study. Purposeful sampling technique was applied in the forms of convenience sampling and criterion sampling. The data for this study was collected from four preschool teachers who were also master's students attending the Department of Preschool Education at a university in Izmir, Türkiye during spring 2021-2022. The data were collected through a Demographic Information Form and an Interview Form. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with the participants using a semi-structured interview form, and the data were analysed through content analysis technique. Based on the participants' experiences regarding the development of 21st century skills of preschool children, all participants' stated creative thinking techniques as a 21st century skill, and all stated technology based activities as a way of developing children's 21st century skills. All of them also expressed digital literacy skills of teachers as a teacher quality which develops students' 21st century skills and expressed family control over children's usage of technology as a responsibility of families. They all acknowledged that schools' technological infrastructure and conditions are often inadequate for teaching children 21st century skills, and suggested the preparation of an activity guide which teaches 21st century skills to children as a solution. The findings indicate that the participants have some knowledge regarding the development of 21st century skills in children and have designed activities based on this knowledge to help children acquire these skills during their preschool period. However, they faced certain difficulties while designing and implementing these activities. They also all emphasized their experiences regarding children's acquisition of technological skills. This study aims to reveal the professional experiences of preschool teachers regarding the development of children's 21st century skills, explain the present situation and activities that teachers design, display difficulties encountered during teaching, and explain the needs of preschool teachers.

The purpose of this study was to adapt the computational thinking scale developed by Tsai, Liang and Hsu (2021) into Turkish in order to determine the computational thinking skill levels of secondary school students according to such basic elements defined by Selby and Woollard (2013) as abstraction, decomposition, algorithmic thinking, evaluation and generalization and to do the related validity and reliability study. A total of 454 high school students (9th-12th grade) determined with the convenient sampling method constituted the sample of the study. The original scale was made up of 19 5-point Likert-type items. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was performed to examine the conformity of the data collected via the adapted scale to the five-factor structure of the original scale. As a result of CFA, it was seen that the factor structure of the original scale was preserved. The reliability of the scale was checked with the internal consistency coefficient for the whole scale and its factors. The Cronbach Alpha coefficients obtained were 0.84 and McDonald's omega coefficients obtained were 0.86. The scale's Turkish adaptation was found to be a valid and trustworthy measurement tool for establishing the computational thinking proficiency levels of students in high school.

This study explores high school students' and their mathematics teachers' mathematical discourses on the equal sign and variables in the classroom context. The participants in this case study were ninth graders and their mathematics teachers. The data were analyzed in terms of participants' routines, specifically ritual and explorative routines in the classroom context, through a commognitive perspective. Results indicate that teacher discourse governed process-based routines that have roots in elementary grades. Students focused more on operational approaches instead of algebraic reasoning while solving equations, and this finding conveys challenges in constructing variables.
