The study aims to determine the prominent sub-topics of climate change in the academic literature in Turkey, the sources that make up this literature, the products derived from these sources, and the contents of these products. In this context, the prominent issues of climate change in international studies are discussed in the study, and then the background of the subject in Turkey is presented. Followingly in the research part, the content analysis focuses on the doctoral theses on climate change in Turkey. According to the superior results of the study, the doctoral theses focused on climate change to be produced in Turkey in the future should be directed based on Public Administration, Economics, International Relations, Urbanism, and Regional Planning in the field of social sciences and Meteorology, Forestry and Forest Engineering and even Environmental Engineering in the field of natural sciences. In particular, the lack of practice, strategy, and policy-oriented studies on climate change, which are expected to be produced by social scientists and contribute to decision-makers, is remarkable. Daily life is a social reality that individuals construct through their mutual relationships and interactions. This reality has become one of the areas of interest for micro-theories that constitute the contemporary sociology paradigm in recent years. This study field, which is called the sociology of everyday life, is the subject of many theoretical or empirical sociological studies. However, daily life is not only a field of interest to sociologists, but also a field that other social scientists explore. Some of the studies that take this field or reality into account have been dealt with on the axis of religious belief that organizes or directs daily life in many ways. In this context, the aim of the study is to make a general assessment of the religion oriented daily life studies carried out in all fields of social sciences in Turkey between the years 1992-2022. When the religion oriented everyday life studies are examined; it has been determined that the relationship between daily life and religion has been covered in the frame of topics and concepts such as social relations, social stratification, modernization, secularization, consumption habits, media and folk beliefs. On the other hand, it has been realized that there is a need for sociological studies dealing with whether there is a relationship between the patterns of stereotyped behaviours or actions that are repeated every day in daily life and the reasons behind them and religious beliefs as well as what kind of relationship takes place between religious values and the places where social and cultural activities are carried out and the ways they are performed. Şerif Mardin, one of Turkey's leading social scientists, has made important contributions to the field of social sciences with his original studies in the fields of political science, history, sociology and sociology of religion. A lot of research has been done about Mardin, which mainly offers analysis of religion and sociology of religion in his works. However, his methodological approaches to the sociology of religion have not been studied specifically, except for a limited number of studies. Therefore, this article aims to examine Mardin's methodological contributions to Turkish sociology of religion, based on such a need. In this context; Mardin's books, articles, presentations, interviews with him and various studies about him were used. In particular, his works within the scope of the sociology of religion were focused on, and the methodological approaches in these studies were analyzed with a critical view. According to the results, it has been seen that historical background analysis, interdisciplinary approach and understanding sociology have an important place in Mardin's methodology for social sciences in general and sociology of religion in particular. Mardin has also benefited a lot from conceptual tools to understand society. Social scientists have persuasively documented the relationship between religion and life satisfaction in Western societies; however, the empirical findings or related theory about how religion shapes life satisfaction in Islamic countries is limited. There is a scarcity of research that examines how patriotism may impact satisfaction with life among Muslims as well as Western societies. Therefore, the present study examines the relationships between patriotism, religion, and life satisfaction in Turkey, which is known for its Muslim culture. Using World Value Survey 2017-2020 (n = 2415), related to two different approaches, four hypotheses were created and attempted to be tested. This study provides compelling evidence in which direction patriotism and religion impact life satisfaction. Findings from this work suggest that people who can be considered patriots have more favorable satisfaction with life. In the same direction, the importance of religion, traditional religious faith, and prayer practice seem to predict positive overall satisfaction with life in Turkey. From the 1990s, Gülen and his movement acquired a highly controversial character in the public debate in Turkey. Ironically being a Turk, Arif Dirlik is one of the least known theoreticians in Turkey. This is due to his immigration to the United States at a very young age and produces all his works in English on China and Modernity as well as his theoretical framework is not well accepted in Turkish among Turkish social scientists. The article reports on the EU's Emergency Social Safety Net (ESSN) programme was introduced in Turkey in November 2016 to provide cash transfers to improve living standards for refugees who do not live in camps. It mentions that supports around 1.8 million refugees with a monthly average payment of 155 Turkish Lira per family member and quarterly top-ups depending on family size.

Crime is a subject that is of great interest to economists as well as all social scientists. There are different levels of relationship between crime and many macroeconomic variables. One of these variables is the income distribution, which implies that the income generated in the society is distributed fairly among the agents. There are a number of studies which conclude that income distribution is effective in feeding the crime phenomenon in societies. In this study, unlike the literature, it is investigated whether the relationship between crime and income distribution includes spatiality, that is, whether the border neighborhoods of the regions carry a decisive feature in the relationship between crime and income distribution. For this purpose, the relationship between income inequality and crimes against property was studied using spatial econometric methods for NUTS 2 level regions in Turkey. The data is obtained from Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) local database for 2016. The results of the spatial determination tests show that the Spatial Error Model is the most appropriate model. The findings of the study illustrates that for NUTS 2 level regions in Turkey there are positive and significant relationship between income distribution and crime, and also suggests a spatiality effect. As a result, for the 26 NUTS 2 level regions in Turkey, it is possible to say that border neighborhood is effective in crime-income distribution relationship. This article discusses the position and the importance of the concepts used in the process of scientific knowledge production basing on an analysis of Prof. Dr. İlhan Tekeli’s relation with concepts as a scientist. Concepts are the main tools for social scientists to grasp and explain social reality. İlhan Tekeli’s journey of concept building as a social scientist is portrayed to present an exemplar to scientists being a part of the world’s shared ideas and claiming to convey scientific facts to everyday life. Tekeli not only guided the field of urban studies by presenting new concepts and conceptualizations as one of the founders of the field of urbanism in Turkey but also engaged in epistemological interrogation on concepts of the field. Two samples among the set of broad-spectrum of concepts that Tekeli contributed to the development of urban studies are examined. Tekeli’s adventure of concept building is portrayed through analyzing his contribution to the concepts of “governance” and “mode of housing provision”. The study applies mixed-method as the research method to combine various forms of data collection techniques and analysis strategies. Participatory objectification and discourse analysis are conducted for converting data into findings within the mixed method. The opportunities for developing authentic contributions of a scientist to the scientific knowledge production process through concepts are opened for discussion basing on the findings of the study. Attacks on academic freedom in Turkey have become increasingly systematic in recent years and thousands of academics have been dismissed. This study reflects on the effects of this worsening repression through interviews with academics in the social sciences, both those dismissed and those still active in their profession. Although the dismissed academics are socially in a very precarious position, they are continuing their scholarly activities in alternative, underground forms. The restructuring process of capitalist relations, generally called neoliberalism, while constituting comprehensive changes in the realm of labour economics and industrial relations, has also led to considerable shifts in their geography. The expression of this world-wide process in Turkey are the "new industrial regions" that have emerged in some inner-Anatolian cities. These phenomena, which became popularised as Anatolian Tigers, have also generated increasing interest among social scientists. However, they have completely ignored labour in their analysis, while generally focussing on employers' so-called success stories. On the other hand, a few numbers of critical analyses on these phenomena have taken labour into consideration yet as the victims of neoliberal policies composed of unorganised masses. Nevertheless, there have been also considerable struggles on the part of workers for their survival, which could then turn into different collective workers' organisations and/or unionisation attempts in these Anatolian cities. Drawing on a comprehensive field study in the city of Kayseri, where there has been a rapid industrialisation process in furniture, metal and textile sectors since 1990s, this paper therefore discusses employers' labour control strategies, workers' responses and local union practices in such Anatolian cities that has been developing as the new labour basins of industrial geography of Turkey. Projects variously designated "e-society," "e-government," and "e-transformation" initiatives attract increasing attention in academic circles and the business community. They remain in the limelight due almost always to the high costs involved in their implementation, often to their ambitious aims related to social and economic development, and sometimes, though not so seldom, to their failure. One such project with grand ambitions is Turkey's "Information Society Strategy," an integral part of the country's efforts in e-transformation. The aim of this paper is to analyze the project from the perspective of the Turkish software sector, with emphasis on technical and methodological flaws as well as on ethical problems. Politicians and sociologists have endeavoured to ascertain the role of ethnic sport in view of the assimilation and integration of ethnic minorities. Data gathered from an inquiry of Turkish migrants in the Federal Republic of Germany are presented as a test of hypotheses regarding conditions for and effects of the participation in ethnic sport. It was found that participation in ethnic sport did not influence individual essimilation and personal integration. The study shows that, to a certain degree, acceptance of the traditional sport- specific norms was connected with participation in ethnic sport. All in all, the results of this study do not prove that ethnic sport can be regarded as an "asylum" for underprivileged members of an ethnic minority. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
