Kangal Shepherd Dogs are highly valuable working dogs unique to Turkey, known for their robustness in withstanding harsh climatic conditions and possessing advanced herd protection and management abilities due to their genetic characteristics. Haematological values serve as crucial indicators of the physiological and physiopathological parameters in animals. A complete blood cell count (CBC) emerges as a powerful diagnostic tool when appropriately assessed. Given the establishment of pure breeds, it is essential to acknowledge that breedspecific hematologic values may exhibit variations influenced by factors such as gender, lifestyle, age, and geographical location. Therefore, understanding the physiological distinctions between genders becomes paramount. This study aims to assess the impact of gender on the complete blood count in Kangal Shepherd Dogs. Upon comparing hematologic parameters between female and male Kangal Shepherd Dogs, a statistically significant difference was observed in the mean platelet volume (MPV) value, which was higher in females than males (p < 0.05). The purpose of this study is to describe the normal ultrasonographic anatomy of the prostate in Kars Shepherd Dogs and to identify its dimensions. The material of the study comprised ten healthy, intact adult male Kars Shepherd Dogs. The prostate was examined using transabdominal ultrasonography and the findings were evaluated. Statistical assessments of the data were conducted with the simple T test in the Minitab program. During transabdominal ultrasonographic examination, the image of the prostate was determined to be uniformly homogeneous and to have a hypoechoic echotexture compared to the surrounding tissue. Average longitudinal, vertical and transversal dimensions were determined as 5.10 cm, 3.08 cm and 3.78 cm respectively, and the average total volume of the prostate was identified as 28.71 cm3. The purpose of this study was to use fundoscopic examination to identify normal variations in the retinas of Kars Shepherd Dogs, which are raised in northeastern Turkey, particularly in the province of Kars and the surrounding area. The study was carried out on 50 healthy Kars Shepherd Dogs of different ages and genders. The tapetal fundus was observed to be granular and green-yellow-blue in color, while the nontapetal fundus was observed to be dark colored (dark brown). No statistically significant difference was found between male and female (P>0.05) for the existence of these granules in the tapetal region. The optic disc was found to be light pink in color and oval in shape with rounded corners. Although the disc was generally located in the tapetal region, it was also found to be located at the intersection of the tapetal and nontapetal regions. No statistically significant difference was found between the dogs regarding the location of the optical disc with respect to the age or gender of the dogs (P>0.05). In conclusion, Kars Shepherd Dogs were found to have a granular, green-yellow-blue tapetum, a dark colored non-tapetum, and an optic disc that was light pink in color and oval in shape with rounded corners; therefore we arrived at the conclusion that the color and variations that we found were breedspecific, as were the other morphological characteristics. An Anatolian Akbash shepherd dog died suddenly, without any clinical signs in Konya, Turkey. Performing necropsy, pathological examination, a culture test, laboratory tests and a multiplex-PCR of bacteria isolated from the dog revealed an anthrax and identified the bacteria as Bacillus anthracis (B. anthracis). The chromosomal gene sequence of bacteria was 99% identical in the GenBank under accession numbers CP002091 (B. anthracis str. H9401), CP001598 (B. anthracis str. A0248) and CP001215 (B. anthracis str. CDC684). Antimicrobial susceptibility test was performed and cefuroxime, cefquinome, sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim, chloramphenicol, tetracycline and rifampicin resistance were seen in isolate.
