Abstract

The article discusses the role that Islamic etiquette known adab plays in shared sacred spaces to which Muslims and Christian pilgrims visit, including the adab in intercultural relations. An overview of the relations between Muslim and Christian rituals at sacred spaces in Turkey, including at the St. (Saint) Antoine church in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, Turkey, is provided.

Abstract

The article examines the psychological and sociological motivations behind the visiting of shrines by residents in Turkey. The role that the ritual of shrine visiting plays in the revering of Islamic saints, including warrior saints and the saint Hackali Bäbä, is discussed. An overview of the offering of Islamic prayer at Turkish shrines is provided.
