Aims: Brucellosis remains a common zoonotic disease, in developing countries, as well as in Turkey where it is endemic, underdiagnosed, and underreported. The aim of this meta‐analysis was to provide a comprehensive estimate of seroprevalence with a large sample size, covering all regions of Turkey, including both grey literature and published studies. Methods and Results: A systematic search was performed in MEDLINE (via PubMed), TürkMedline (National Health Sciences‐Periodicals Database), and YÖKSİS database (Higher Education Council Information System) until May 5th, 2023. The quality of the studies was evaluated independently using Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) critical assessment tool for prevalence studies. A random‐effects model (DerSimion and Laird) was utilized to estimate the overall pooled prevalence. A sensitivity analysis was performed, excluding studies with a high risk of bias. The subgroup analyses and meta‐regression were conducted to explore sources of heterogeneity. Egger test and funnel plot were used to assess publication bias. The meta‐analysis included 30 studies in total published between 1999 and 2021 with 51,560 individuals. In Turkey, the pooled seroprevalence of human brucellosis was estimated to be 4.5% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 3.8%–5.3%). According to the subgroup analysis, a higher seroprevalence was found in rural areas (8.0%, 95% CI: 5.4%–10.7%), high‐risk occupational groups (9.9%, 95% CI: 5.3%–14.6%), and the Central East Anatolia Region (13%, 95% CI: 3.2%–22.8%). The meta‐regression analysis identified living in rural areas and certain geographic regions as significant risk factors associated with higher seroprevalence. Conclusions: This meta‐analysis revealed a significant burden of human brucellosis in Turkey. The findings highlight the need for public health measures and targeted interventions to reduce the burden of this zoonotic disease, especially in rural areas, high‐risk occupational groups, and the East Anatolia Region. Objectives: The frequency of smartphone usage is increasing day by day in Turkey. This study was planned to reveal the level of smartphone addiction and the factors affecting smartphone addiction in young adults in Turkey. Design: In the study, how long the young people had been using the smartphone and their daily usage times were recorded. The Smartphone Addiction Scale (SAS), Neck Disability Index (NDI), Body Awareness Scale (BAS), and Sedentary Behavior Questionnaire (SBQ) scales were employed as data collection tools. Results: The study was conducted with 1000 participants aged 18-45, and 807 were female. 85.6% of the participants have been using smartphones for at least 3 years and 77.3% of all participants use smartphones for more than 4 hours a day. According to the SAS scale, 34.8% of the participants had smartphone addiction. Smartphone addiction is higher especially in those who have a sedentary life or individuals with neck disabilities (p = 0.005; p < 0.001 respectively). No significant difference was found between body awareness and smartphone addiction (p = 0.380). However, body awareness scores were higher in the group without smartphone addiction. There was a significant difference between the groups in terms of the SAS, BAS, NDI, and SBQ scores in the participants classified by smartphone usage time. Conclusion: Female gender, daily usage of a smartphone for more than 4 hours a day, having a smartphone for at least 3 years, presence of sedentary behavior, and neck disability were the factors affecting smartphone addiction in young people. No relationship was found between body awareness and smartphone addiction. Background: Medical students are potential role models for the community in tobacco control. Therefore, we aimed to determine the prevalence and dynamics of tobacco smoking among their grades. Methods: A questionnaire prepared in cooperation with the "World Health Organization" was completed online by 697 medical students in 2020 as a randomized cross-sectional study covering all medical school grades. Results: The prevalence of smoking among pre-grade 1 students was 3.3%, while it was 23% in grade-6. The highest prevalence was 31% in grade-2. Of the 135 current smokers, 43% smoked their first cigarette in medical school. "Having smoker best friends" was the most critical factor in starting smoking. Of current smokers, 59.3% want to quit. Only 20.7% of students who tried to quit smoking received professional help. Students took only a 1-hour lecture on tobacco control in the first two years. Conclusion: While there was almost no smoking in pre-grade 1, the high prevalence seen in grade-2 indicates that psychosocial support mechanisms and tobacco control lectures should be developed to prevent students. University administrations should implement adequate programs and increase awareness that will lead to a reduction in diseases in the student population and thus in the general population. Background: In the past two decades, the prevalence of asthma, eczema, and allergic rhinitis has increased among school-aged children in the Central Black Sea region of Turkey. This increase is consistent with national and international data, reflecting the impact and temporal changes of allergic diseases on the community. A similar increasing trend is also observed worldwide. This study aims to contribute to the development of health policies related to allergic diseases among Turkish children in the Central Black Sea region. Materials and Methods: This study compares the results of two cross-sectional surveys conducted in schools in and around Samsun, Turkey, between the years 2006 and 2022, examining changes in the prevalence of specific allergic diseases such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic eczema. Utilizing the Turkish translation of the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood protocol, the research encompassed a total of 1,310 and 3,219 children, respectively. Results: In the recent study conducted in 2022, the prevalence of asthma and allergic bronchitis diagnosed by physicians was found to be 10.5% and 4.6%, respectively. In addition, the prevalence of allergic rhinitis was determined to be 3.1% and the prevalence of atopic dermatitis was 2.5%. Moreover, previously unidentified rates of food allergy were determined to be 2.5%, and drug allergy was found to be 2.4%. Furthermore, a comparison with a cross-sectional study conducted in the same region 20 years ago revealed a statistically significant increase in the prevalence of physician-diagnosed asthma and allergic bronchitis (with P-values of 0.0375 and 0.0107, respectively). Discussion: The findings of this study suggest a similar trend of increasing prevalence of allergic diseases when compared with similar studies at national and global levels. The purpose of this study is to determine the frequency of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and the influencing factors in children aged 4 to 9. The cross-sectional descriptive study included 1176 children between the ages of 4 and 9 who applied for Family Medicine Centers between March 1, 2017 and April 30, 2017 for various reasons. Pediatric Gastrointestinal Symptoms Questionnaire, Roma III Version (QPGS-RIII) was applied to the volunteers (children's parents or caregivers), and Beck Anxiety Scale was applied to the mothers accompanying their children. A total of 603 (51.9%) of the children included in the study were female and 559 (48.1%) were male. When the applied QPGS-RIII was evaluated with IBS diagnostic criteria, IBS was found in 137 children and IBS frequency was found to be 11.8% (95% confidence interval [CI]). Background: Information on the current status of oral health and related risk factors is lacking in Turkiye. This study aimed to evaluate dental caries and associated factors among the Turkish population using the findings of the third national oral health survey. Methods: This cross‐sectional epidemiological survey was carried out between March and September in 2018 including five index ages and age groups (5‐, 12‐, 15‐year‐olds, 35–44 and 65–74 age groups). A multistage cluster sampling design was used to obtain a national representative sample of these age groups. Participants were interviewed face‐to‐face using a structured questionnaire, and oral examinations were performed based on the methods and criteria suggested by the World Health Organization. The adjusted prevalence ratio for dental caries was estimated considering sociodemographic and behavioural characteristics by using log‐binomial and robust Poisson regression analysis in R and SAS software. Results: After data cleaning, a total of 11 091 participants remained. The prevalence of dental caries was 76.5% (95% confidence interval: 75.4%–77.7%) and determined to be associated with age, dental visit, and pain or discomfort history during the previous year among the Turkish population. Prevalence was also associated with the mother's education level among 5‐, 12‐ and 15‐year‐olds. For the 35–44 age group, individuals living in urban areas had lower dental caries than those living in rural areas. For 65–74 age group, none of the factors were significantly associated with dental caries. Conclusion: A high prevalence of dental caries was observed in Turkish children and adults. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen current preventive oral health programs. Regular disease surveillance should be maintained. Objective: Türkiye is the leading country that has been applying the MPOWER criteria of the World Health Organization for years. However, the prevalence of smoking among nurses appears to be high, according to the literature. Therefore, we aimed to determine the prevalence, addiction levels, and dynamics of tobacco smoking among nurses in Türkiye. Method: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, a questionnaire (prepared in cooperation with the "World Health Organization") and the Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence were administered to 529 nurses working at a tertiary-care university hospital in 2020. Logistic regression was performed to determine factors predicting smoking. Results: The prevalence of smoking among nurses was 32.7% (n = 173). The mean Fagerström test score indicated a "low dependence" level (score: 3 ± 2.6). Both results were higher for males. A relationship was found between trying smoking cigarette and hookah. Of the "current smokers" group, 102 (60.4%) stated that they wanted to quit smoking. Only 21 (27.6%) of the nurses who have tried to quit smoking thus far have received professional help. Conclusion: The prevalence of smoking among nurses working at a tertiary-care university hospital was relatively low compared to that among nurses in Türkiye. While females are normally expected to smoke less, the high prevalence of smoking among nurses (most of them female) raises the question of the professional basis of this situation. However, the low rate of receiving professional help reveals the lack of promotion and accessibility of smoking cessation outpatient clinics in the faculty environment. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of urinary tract infections in patients with urinary catheterization receiving home health services and the affecting factors. The population of this descriptive study consisted of patients who had lived in the central districts of Erzurum between February and March 2022, were actively registered to home health services, had a urinary catheter and met the research criteria. The period prevalence method (3 months) was used in the study, and 121 patients constituted the study sample. The study data were collected using a Sociodemographic and Information Form on Urinary Catheter. Before the home visit, patients' relatives were asked to clamp the urinary catheter. After completing the data collection forms, a sufficient amount of urine was taken from the attached urinary catheter, put into the urine and culture cup/tube, and labelled with a barcode. The samples were sent to the laboratory within 15 min at the latest. The medical specialist evaluated the results, and the necessary pharmacological treatment was delivered to the patient. Of the patients with indwelling urinary catheters who received home health services, 94.2% had a urinary tract infection. Moreover, it was determined that there was a statistically significant correlation between the presence of urinary tract infection in patients and the variables of constipation, frequency of perineal cleaning, and the use of toilet paper. Background: This manuscript investigates the prevalence, classification, accompanying findings, and treatment modalities associated with infraoccluded primary molars. The aim of this study categorizing primary molars based on the severity of infraocclusion and assessing their respective treatment interventions across different severity groups. Methods: The classification, treatment types, accompanying findings, and the condition of succeeding premolars of infraoccluded molars were documented. Chi-square tests, including Fisher's Exact Chi-square test, Fisher Freeman Halton Exact Chi-square test, and One Sample Chi-square test, were conducted. The predetermined significance level was less than 0.05. Results: The study population consisted of 3132 subjects aged 3 to 15 years, with a prevalence of 4.3% for infraocclusion. Infraocclusion typically manifests between 6 and 9 years of age and predominantly affects mandibular primary molars. Treatment interventions varied based on infraocclusion severity, with more invasive procedures required for severe cases. Accompanying findings associated with infraocclusion include adjacent teeth tipping, significant deviation in midline shifts towards the affected side and increased caries. Additionally, succeeding premolar agenesis was observed in 2% of infraoccluded molars, with extraction rates higher in cases where the successor tooth was mesially or distally located. Conclusions: The study offers novel insights to dental practitioners concerning the severity and distribution of treatment interventions for infraocclusion. It suggests that more severe cases may necessitate more invasive procedures, with the aim of enhancing patient outcomes through timely intervention and personalized therapeutic strategies. Background: Many studies on multiple sclerosis (MS) reveal different prevalence and epidemiologic results. Objectives: In this study, we aimed to determine the epidemiologic profile of MS using official health records in Turkey. Methods: Patients diagnosed with MS from the official health data of the Ministry of Health, representing the entire population of Turkey, were included in the study. Prevalence and incidence calculations were performed using the data on gender, age, year of birth, city of residence, and year of diagnosis. Results: As a result of the study, the number of patients with the ICD code G35 was determined as 201,061 and the number of patients with this code entered at least three times was determined as 82,225. The prevalence of MS in Turkey was calculated as 96.4 per 100,000 and the female/male ratio as 2.1/1. The incidence of MS in 2022 was 6.2 per 100,000 and the mean patient age was 43.1 ± 13.3 years (female: 43.0 ± 13.1 vs male: 43.2 ± 13.7) while the mean age at first diagnosis was 34.0 ± 13.0 (female: 33.6 ± 12.6 vs male: 34.9 ± 13.7). Conclusion: The research was conducted via Official Database of Turkey, which includes population of 85 million and provides valuable insights into the prevalence and incidence rates of this chronic disease. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence and determinants of behavioral risk factors for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) among students aged 13–19 years in Turkey. This cross-sectional study included a total of 1218 high-school students (mean age = 15.97 years; 57.6 % females) in Turkey. A facilitated survey in the form of a questionnaire was used to gather data. Questions from the Global School-Based Student Health Survey were adapted for the study, and the responses were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 28. Binary logistic regression and Poisson regression were applied to identify the contributing factors. The prevalence of inadequate fruit and vegetable consumption was 85.5 %, sedentary leisure behavior 80.9 %, physical inactivity 65.3 %, carbonated soft drink consumption 60.4 %, overweight or obesity 38.1 %, current tobacco use 23.1 %, and current alcohol use 14.5 %. The adjusted Poisson regression analysis showed that the odds for having behavioral risk factors were increased by being male, being in grade 11, and attending physical education classes, whereas the odds were reduced by having multiple psychological distress issues, regularly attending school, and having moderate or high parental support. The prevalence of clustering of modifiable risk factors for NCDs was high among students aged 13–19 years in Turkey, and there is a need to mount effective interventions. Risk factors for these diseases are often preventable: Appropriate health interventions before, during, and after pregnancy as well as throughout childhood and adolescence can significantly reduce their prevalence. Trichomonas gallinae is a flagellated protozoan parasite that affects numerous avian species worldwide, causing a range of diseases collectively termed trichomonosis. This review study aimed to present a comprehensive analysis of the prevalence of T. gallinae in birds of Iran, along with an exploration of its associated pathological findings. Through an extensive search of published studies, scientific databases, and relevant literature, we identified several studies conducted in Iran that focused on the prevalence of T. gallinae in different bird populations and their pathological effect. These studies utilized a variety of techniques, including direct microscopic examination, culture methods, and molecular tools to detect and identify the presence of this parasite. This review study indicates that T. gallinae infections are prevalent among various bird species in Iran, including Domestic pigeons, Zebra Finches, and Turkey. The reported prevalence rates showed significant differences among various regions and bird species, ranging from as low as 2.5% in zebra finches to as high as 70% in pigeons. The clinical signs of infected birds varied from no clinical signs to visible yellowish-white masses of caseous necrotic material, hyperplasia of mucous cells, and significant congestion of the lung. These findings underline the importance of T. gallinae as a significant pathogen affecting avian populations in Iran. Using at least two techniques, such as culture or PCR, in addition to direct smear is recommended for better diagnosis of infection. The present study highlights the need for further epidemiological studies to better understand the risk factors associated with T. gallinae transmission and to develop effective prevention and control strategies. In this study, it was aimed to determine the prevalence of subclinical mastitis obtained from 38 studies conducted in Türkiye between 1988 and 2019 by meta-analysis method and to calculate common prevalence. The estimated prevalence of subclinical mastitis in the studies were evaluated separately as cow-based (11182 cows in 37 studies) and udder quarter-based (48990 udder quarters in 33 studies). According to the results, the common prevalence of subclinical mastitis was calculated as 0.48 (95% CI: 0.41-0.56) in cow-based studies and 0.32 (95% CI: 0.26-0.37) in quarter based-based studies. As a result of this study, the results of individual studies on the prevalence of subclinical mastitis in dairy cows in Türkiye were combined with the meta-analysis method and a more precise estimate of the prevalence was obtained. This study was carried out to determine the prevalence and molecular characterization of tick-borne pathogens (TBP) (Babesia spp., Theileria spp., and Hepatozoon spp.) in asymptomatic dogs in the northeast Anatolia region of Türkiye. Blood samples of 400 clinically healthy dogs were analyzed using PCR and RLB techniques. TBP prevalence and the relationship between habitat, gender, age, and breed of dogs were determined by using the R package prevalence (version 0.2.0.) and the Pearson chi-square statistics. Babesia spp., Theileria spp., Hepatozoon spp. DNAs were detected in 13% (52/400) of the dogs by PCR, while the prevalence of TBPs was 24.25% (CI: 20.24-28.62) by subsecuantial RLB assay. Sequence analysis of two Theileria ovis, two Babesia canis and two Hepatozoon canis isolates showed 100% identity with the corresponding reference isolates. Background: Computer vision syndrome has become a significant public health problem, especially in developing countries. Therefore, this study aims to identify the prevalence of computer vision syndrome during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature was conducted using the databases PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase up to February 22, 2023, using the search terms "Computer Vision Syndrome" and "COVID-19". Three authors independently performed study selection, quality assessment, and data extraction, and the Joanna Briggs Institute Meta-Analysis of Statistics Assessment and Review Instrument was used to evaluate study quality. Heterogeneity was assessed using the statistical test I2, and the R version 4.2.3 program was used for statistical analysis. Results: A total of 192 studies were retrieved, of which 18 were included in the final meta-analysis. The total sample included 10,337 participants from 12 countries. The combined prevalence of computer vision syndrome was 74% (95% CI: 66, 81). Subgroup analysis based on country revealed a higher prevalence of computer vision syndrome in Pakistan (99%, 95% CI: 97, 100) and a lower prevalence in Turkey (48%, 95% CI: 44, 52). In addition, subgroup analysis based on study subjects showed a prevalence of 82% (95% CI: 74, 89) for computer vision syndrome in non-students and 70% (95% CI: 60, 80) among students. Conclusion: According to the study, 74% of the participants experienced computer vision syndrome during the COVID-19 pandemic. Given this finding, it is essential to implement preventive and therapeutic measures to reduce the risk of developing computer vision syndrome and improve the quality of life of those affected. Objective: Cognitive disengagement syndrome, formerly known as sluggish cognitive tempo, is defined as mental fogginess, daydreaming, and sluggishness. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and sociodemographic characteristics of children with cognitive disengagement syndrome and to examine the relationship between cognitive disengagement syndrome and psychiatric disorders. Methods: About 268 randomly chosen Turkish primary school children aged 7-11 years from 4 different cities were included in this study. Both teachers and parents completed the cognitive disengagement syndrome scanning scale of the Child Behavior Checklist and the Barkley Child Attention Survey. Psychiatric diagnoses in children were assessed using a semi-structured clinical interview. Four separate cognitive disengagement syndrome measurements were performed, matching informants with scales. Results: The prevalence of cognitive disengagement syndrome was estimated with a range of 4.9%-10.9%, depending on the way of measurement. Logistic regression analyses revealed that paternal psychopathology (odds ratio = 6.7) and low maternal education (odds ratio = 3.1) increased while advanced maternal age (odds ratio = 0.7) decreased the risk of cognitive disengagement syndrome. Although cognitive disengagement syndrome was found to be more prevalent in children with chronic diseases, this association no longer remained in the full logistic regression model. Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder was the most observed disorder and accompanied 42.9%-75% of the cases with higher cognitive disengagement syndrome. However, there was no strong support in favor of associations between cognitive disengagement syndrome and depression and anxiety as a whole. Conclusion: This study provides the first estimates regarding the prevalence and the sociodemographic characteristics of Turkish children with cognitive disengagement syndrome. Cognitive disengagement syndrome seems to be relatively more prevalent in Turkey than in Western cultures. Children whose fathers had a psychiatric disorder, whose mothers had low education, and who were at younger ages should be scrutinized for cognitive disengagement syndrome. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study was conducted to determine the prevalence and risk factors of urinary incontinence in menopausal women. This systematic review and meta‐analysis followed PRISMA and COSMOS‐E guidelines. The searches were conducted on 1–15 April, 2022 using PubMed, EBSCO, Embase, PsycINFO, DOAJ, Web of Science, DergiPark, Scopus, Turkish Medline, Turkish Citation Index, TR Index and National Thesis Center search engines. The keywords 'menopause, climacteric, urinary incontinence, risk factors, prevalence' were used in the searches. The risk of bias was assessed using the Critical Appraisal Checklist for cross‐sectional studies developed by the Joanna Briggs Institute. Data were synthesized by meta‐analysis, meta‐regression and narrative methods. Eleven studies published between 2012 and 2022 were included. The total sample size of the studies was 2531. In this meta‐analysis, the estimated rate of urinary incontinence in women aged 40–65 years was 46.9% (95% CI: 0.346–0.595), and this result was statistically significantly affected by the moderator variables risk of bias (Q = 8.76, p = 0.013) and urinary incontinence diagnostic tools (Q = 27.60, p < 0.001). The estimated stress urinary incontinence rate was 19.1% (95% CI: 0.130–0.271), urge urinary incontinence rate was 5.1% (95% CI: 0.020–0.124) and the mixed urinary incontinence rate was 13.4% (95% CI: 0.092–0.192). The risk factors affecting urinary incontinence were found to be advanced age, menopause, diabetes mellitus, constipation, obesity, history of urinary incontinence during pregnancy and the postpartum period, mode of delivery, four or more births, urinary tract infection, family history of urinary incontinence and genetic predisposition. This meta‐analysis revealed that urinary incontinence and its types are highly prevalent in women aged 40–65 years and that the prevalence is influenced by the quality of research and the type of diagnostic tool used in addition to many risk factors. Aim: Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a condition that results from obstruction, valve insufficiency, dysfunction of calf muscle pump, or their combinations. This study analyzed the risk factors and demographic characteristics of CVI in nurses in Türkiye. Additionally, it seeks to identify the total number of patients treated at medical centers in 2022 and assess the prevalence of CVI. Material and Methods: This multicenter, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was conducted with the participation of nurses working in 18 centers. Nurses completed a questionnaire that included their demographic information and venous insufficiency risk factors, and the Venous Insufficiency Epidemiological and Economic Study-Quality of Life Questionnaire. Researchers also completed the Standard CEAP Form Section C. The cases were divided into 2 groups: CVI (-) group (n=776, 43.5%) and CVI (+) group (n=1010, 56.5%). Results: A total of 1786 nurses participated in this study. Older age (>30-39 years), female gender, ≥2 pregnancies, ≥2 childbirths, years in the profession (>5-15 years), family history, and night cramps were identified as risk factors for CVI (p<0.001). No significant difference was found between smoking, body mass index, and CVI status (p>0.05). Hypertension, diabetes, and a history of deep vein thrombosis were the most common coexisting diseases. With a one-unit increase in age, risk of CVI increased 1.1-fold, family history of VV increased CVI risk 1.9-fold and presence of nocturnal night cramps increased risk of CVI 2.6-fold. The prevalence of CVI in 2022 was found to be 22.66% in this study. Conclusion: Older age, female gender, ≥2 pregnancies, ≥2 childbirths, years in the profession, family history, and night cramps are identified as risk factors for CVI in nurses. Common comorbid diseases include hypertension, diabetes, and a history of DVT. Pregnancy, particularly with multiple occurrences, stands out as a critical period for CVI. Reported symptoms in CVI (+) nurses include leg pain, swelling, heaviness, restless legs, and throbbing. Nurses demonstrate a higher incidence of CVI compared to other professions, highlighting an occupational risk. These findings stress the importance of preventive measures for nurses. Purpose: Bumblebees are an important group of insects in the pollination of various vegetables, fruits, oilseeds, legumes, and the fodder crops. Compared to honeybees, they have a wider choice of hosts and a longer flight period. These bees are used especially for the pollination of plants in greenhouses and are commercially produced for this purpose. Recently, serious decreases have been occurring in bumblebee populations due to various reasons such as pathogens, and some of species are even threatened with extinction. Due to the worldwide decline in pollinator insects, determining the distribution and prevalence of bumblebee pathogens is of great importance. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the incidence and prevalence of pathogens in Turkish bumblebee populations and how much of each pathogen was in bumblebee samples. Methods: A total of 172 Bombus terrestris (Linnaeus,1758) samples (21 samples from commercial enterprises, 79 samples from greenhouses and 72 samples from nature) were randomly collected from 3 provinces (Antalya, Mersin and İzmir) where greenhouse cultivation is intensively carried out in Turkey. Eighty-nine of these samples were collected in the spring and eighty-three in the autumn. The presence of four pathogens (Nosema bombi, Crithidia bombi, Apicystis bombi, and Locustacarus buchneri) was investigated by PCR using universal primers. Results: The overall prevalence of Nosema bombi, Crithidia bombi, Apicystis bombi, and Locustacarus buchneri was determined as 7.55%, 9.3%, 11.62%, and 4.65%, respectively. Co-infections (5.81%) were only detected in wild-caught (nature) samples. C. bombi and A. bombi infections were detected at higher rates in the spring samples than in the autumn samples (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference between the spring and autumn samples with respect to the presence of N. bombi and L. buchneri (p > 0.05). Conclusion: The results obtained could be important in determining the prevalence and spread rates of the bumblebee diseases in Turkey and to determine appropriate protection measures. The information gathered should increase our knowledge about the presence of these pathogens in Turkey and could contribute to improve apiarist's practice. More studies are needed to determine the transmission pathways of these pathogens between the populations. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of fear of childbirth and affecting factors in pregnant women in Turkey. This was a cross-sectional study and included a total of 2025. Pregnant Women Assessment, some variables related to previous and current perinatal processes and Wijma Delivery Expectancy/Experience Questionnaire (version A) were used for data collection. In this sample, 42.4% of the women reported fear of childbirth. What the women were afraid of most was the development of unwanted conditions at childbirth, obscurity/uncertainty, and negative attitudes of health professionals. The factors causing fear of childbirth were the low education level, unemployment status, low financial status, stillbirth, unplanned pregnancy, indecisiveness about the type of delivery, not attending prenatal education programs, negative effects of other people, insufficient social support, confiding in the healthcare centre and health professional, negative, and indecisive birth perceptions, prior negative birth experiences and not feeling ready for childbirth (p < 0.001). The prevalence of fear of childbirth in this Turkish sample, especially in the multipara is higher than in Western countries. Avian Leukosis Virus (ALV), one of the dangerous retroviruses threatens the poultry industry, is oncogenic and can easily transmit. Over the past three decades, the poultry industry has been significantly affected by subgroup J (ALV-J) in particular, known for its ability to spread both horizontally and vertically. The fact that a commercial vaccine has not yet been developed against ALV increases the risk potential. For these reasons, positive cases should be identified to control ALV infections and minimize infection. A prompt and accurate diagnosis is vital to detecting infected birds. For this purpose, sampling was performed in total 153 blood samples from 14 different asymptomatic commercial layer farm located in Afyonkarahisar, Türkiye. Herein, the presence, density and prevalence of ALV-J strain and whether it has an oncogenic effect was investigated by qPCR and western blot for the first time in Türkiye. The average contamination rate of ALV-J was calculated as 70.91% over all samples. However, p27 antigen that is the most abundant polypeptide encoded by the gag gene of ALV could not be detected. High prevalence of ALV-J suggests that ALV strains can be found asymptomatically without showing any symptoms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The aim of this study is to examine the features of critical congenital heart disease (CCHD). Methods: The study was planned as a retrospective cohort study. Data for the study were obtained through national data collection systems and 2018–2020 CCHD cohort was established. In this study, we divided the patients into two groups: Group 1 included seven primary target diseases of the newborn CCHD screening program and Group 2 included secondary target diseases. Results: There were 9884 CCHD cases, with a prevalence of 27.8 per 10,000 live births. Of the cases 44.4% were in Group 1 (12.3 per 10,000) and 54.8% were in Group 2 (15.2 per 10,000). Of all cases 55.5% were male and the female/male ratio was 1/1.2. While 21.8% of the cases were premature, 23.0% were babies with low birth weight (LBW), 4.8% were born from multiple pregnancies. The highest prevalence of CCHD was found in LBW (84.8 per 10,000), premature infants (57.8 per 10,000) (p < 0.001). The fatality rate in the cohort was 16.6% in the neonatal period, 31.6% in the first year of life respectively. The mean estimated survival time in the birth cohort was 40.0 months (95% CI: 39.5–40.6). The mean survival time for Group 1 diseases was 33.4 months (95% CI: 32.5–34.2), while it was 45.4 months (95% CI: 44.7–46.0) for Group 2 diseases (p < 0.001). Preterm birth, LBW, maternal age and region were evaluated as factors associated with mortality risk. Conclusion: This study showed that CCHDs are common in Turkey and mortality rates are high. There are regional differences in CCHD both prevalence and survival. Improving prenatal diagnosis rates and expanding neonatal CCHD screening are of key importance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Urinary incontinence (UI), which usually occurs in women but affects both sexes, is a significant public health challenge. This study aims to comprehensively investigate the prevalence and determinants of UI in men and women, considering gender-specific factors. Methods: The study performed a secondary analysis on data obtained from 13,383 individuals surveyed in the 2019 Turkish Health Survey, providing a representation of the Turkish population. The dataset included sociodemographic and health-related variables like UI, body mass index (BMI), physical activity, smoking, and chronic diseases—statistical analysis employed chi-square tests and gender-stratified logistic regression models to identify UI-associated factors. Results: Our results showed that UI affected 8.8% of the population, with a striking gender disparity. Women had a notably higher prevalence at 11.2%, while men had a lower rate of 5.5%. Importantly, this gender gap narrowed with age. For example, in the 34–44 age group, the female/male ratio was 6.9, but it decreased to 1.4 in the 65–74 age group. Marital status and employment status played significant roles. Separated, divorced, or widowed individuals, particularly women, had the highest prevalence at 19.3%. Employment status influenced UI prevalence, with employed men having the lowest rate (2.1%), while retired women faced the highest rate (15.0%). Higher BMI, especially in obese individuals, significantly raised UI prevalence, reaching 7.9% for men and 15.8% for women. Physical inactivity, notably in women (17.0%), and prolonged sedentary hours (13.9%) were associated with higher UI rates. Former smokers, especially women (15.9%), had a notable impact on UI. Poor perceived health and chronic conditions like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), hypertension, and diabetes were significantly associated with higher UI prevalence. Logistic regression analysis revealed that age, education, perceived health status, COPD, and diabetes were significant factors associated with UI in both sexes, while in women, BMI, physical activity, and smoking also played notable roles. Conclusions: This extensive UI study has unveiled notable gender disparities and determinants. Notably, these disparities decrease with age, underlining UI's changing nature over time. Modifiable factors impact women more, while non-modifiable factors are linked to men. The study underscores the importance of tailoring healthcare strategies to address UI based on gender. Purpose: Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are common in women, and negatively affect their lives. The aim of this study is to determine the frequency of LUTS and its affecting factors in female graduate students in Turkey. Materials and Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study consisted of 815 women attending education at Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University. Data were; provided sociodemographic characteristics, a questionnaire, and the Bristol Female LUTS Scale. Linear regression analysis was used to identify the risk factors associated with LUTS. Results: According to the data obtained, the prevalence of at least one of the LUTS was determined as 71.8% (515/815). It was determined that the prevalence of storage symptoms was higher than that of voiding and urinary incontinence. According to the results of the linear regression analysis, the risk factors for LUTS in female student were hold urine at school, complaints of urinary incontinence in family, bedwetting in children, constipation, reg- ular drug use, obesity. Conclusion: Consequently, LUTS is a common condition in female students. This study was aimed to conduct a meta-analysis to determine the prevalence of Listeria monocytogenes in dairy products in Turkey. A systematic literature search was conducted using the Medline/PubMed, Science Direct, Web of Science, and Scopus databases to identify studies reporting the prevalence of L. monocytogenes in dairy products. The search was conducted using the following keywords: (“ice cream” or “curd” or “cream” or “cheese” or “butter” or “yoghurt” or “dairy” or “milk”) and (“Listeriosis” or “Listeria monocytogenes” or “Listeria”) and (“Turkiye” or “Turkey”) and (“seropositivity” or “seroprevalence” or “prevalence”). A comprehensive meta-analysis included a total of 4615 dairy products from the 26 studies. The overall molecular prevalence of L. monocytogenes in dairy products in Turkey was estimated to be 4.3% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 3.7-4.9%). The I2 value of 87.4% (CI95%82.8–90.8) suggested high heterogeneity, with a τ2 of -0.6227 (CI95%-4.6556–3.4102), and an X2 statistic of 199.0 (P < 0.0001). In conclusion, this meta-analysis reveals a significant prevalence of L. monocytogenes in dairy products in Turkey. The findings highlight the need for improved control measures to minimize the risk of contamination and ensure consumer safety. By implementing rigorous hygiene practices, enhancing monitoring systems, and promoting collaborative efforts between industry and regulatory bodies, the dairy sector in Turkey can effectively mitigate the risks associated with L. monocytogenes and maintain high standards of food safety. To investigate the prevalence of fibromyalgia(FM) and to show its relations with symptoms, polio-related impairments (PRI), and quality of life (QoL) in persons with prior paralytic poliomyelitis (PsPP) with and without post-polio syndrome (PPS). The study included 74 PsPP under 60 years of age, 60 of whom met the criteria for PPS. Presence and severity of FM were assessed by the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) 1990, 2010, and 2016 criteria, and Fibromyalgia Severity Score. PPS symptoms, PRI, and QoL were evaluated using the Self-Reported Impairments in Persons with Late Effects of Polio Rating Scale, Fatigue Severity Scale, and Nottingham Health Profile. Frequency, comparison, and correlation analyses were performed. While 15% of PsPP with PPS met the criteria of ACR 1990, 32% of ACR 2010, and 35% of ACR 2016, none of those without PPS met any of the criteria for FM. Severity of PPS symptoms and PRI were significantly higher, and QoL was significantly lower in those with co-existing FM. FM severity was found to be significantly associated with severity of PPS symptoms, PRI and reduced QoL. FM frequently coexists in PsPP with PPS and may increase the burden of PPS. Fibromyalgia (FM) is commonly seen in patients with post-polio syndrome (PPS). Co-existing FM may increase the burden of PPS, as it is associated with more severe symptoms, more polio-related impairments, and worse quality of life. Recognition, appropriate referral, and successful management of co-existing FM may allow for reduced symptoms or symptom severity and improved quality of life in persons with PPS. Equine proliferative enteropathy caused by Lawsonia intracellularis has been described in weanlings in many different countries including the USA, Western Europe, Israel, Korea and Brazil but not investigated in Türkiye and Eastern Europe. The objective of the study was to determine the seroprevalence and fecal shedding of L. intracellularis in weanling foals. A cross-sectional study was designed in randomly selected 97 weanling foals with or without clinical signs from 3 different provinces of Türkiye. Total protein and albumin levels in serum samples from 97 foals were measured using automated biochemistry analyser. Serum samples and fecal samples were also tested by bELISA and real-time PCR to detect L. intracellularis-specific antibodies and -DNA, respectively. Seropositivity was found to be 25.8% by bELISA. However, none of the fecal samples were positive by real-time PCR. Statistically, no significant associations were found between seropositivity and clinical signs or serum ALB/TP levels. Seropositivity indicated the exposure of weanling foal population to L. intracellularis for the first time in Türkiye. Further investigations are needed to better understand the epidemiology of the disease in the weanlings as well as adult horse populations and potential wildlife resorvoirs in the country/region. Aim and Objective: The aim of this cross‐sectional study was to determine the point prevalence and associated risk factors of medical device‐related pressure injuries (MDRPI) in intensive care patients in Turkey. Background: MDRPI remain a clinical problem that has garnered the attention of healthcare professionals. Design: This study used a cross‐sectional design and was conducted over a single day in all intensive care units. Method: Data were collected through face‐to‐face interviews, observation, skin examination and detailed diagnosis of MDRPI development and influencing factors. Presence of pressure injuries on the skin in the areas where the patient's medical device was placed was defined. The study was reported according to the STROBE declaration. Results: MDRPI developed in 65 out of 200 patients included in the study (32.5%). The most frequent locations were on the face (71%). The MDRPIs were commonly associated with nasogastric tube (29.2%), endotracheal tube (18.5%) and CPAP mask (15.4%). A significant proportion of these injuries were mucosal (53.8%, n = 35). The majority of the skin pressure injuries were classified as Stage II (18.5%, n = 12). The risk increased 14 times in patients who were hospitalised for 9–16 days and 13 times in those who received mechanical ventilator support. Conclusion: The study findings suggest that MDRPI developed in approximately one of three patients hospitalised in the intensive care unit, and the length of hospital stay and mechanical ventilator support were important determining risk factors. The high prevalence of MDRPI may indicate inadequate nursing care quality. Therefore, it is recommended that nurses be aware of risk factors and evaluate the suitability and safety of medical devices. This study aimed to investigate lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in Turkish adult women and to compare toileting behaviors in women with and without LUTS. This cross-sectional study was conducted in 815 women. The International Consultation on Incontinence Modular Questionnaire – Female LUTS and a toileting behaviors form, created by the authors, were used in evaluations. Nearly 50 % of the women had at least one LUTS, 45.8 % had storage symptoms, 7.4 % had voiding symptoms, and 20.2 % had incontinence symptoms. The rates of premature urination, straining during urination, delayed urination, and sitting on the toilet while urinating were higher in women with LUTS than in women without LUTS (p <.05). The rate of squatting on the toilet while urinating was lower in women with LUTS than those without LUTS (p <.05). Various LUTS were common in adult women. Some toileting behaviors such as premature urination, straining during urination, delayed urination, and sitting on the toilet while urinating were higher in women with LUTS compared to women without LUTS. Since the rate of unhealthy toilet behaviors is higher in women with LUTS, it is important to know unhealthy toilet behaviors in the management of LUTS and to organize training programs to prevent these behaviors and LUTS. Objective: Congenital heart defects occur in approximately 50% of children with Down syndrome and they contribute considerably to morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence, classification, and survival of congenital heart defects in Down syndrome. Materials and Methods: About 1731 Down syndrome patients who underwent echocardiography between 1986 and 2022 were evaluated. The median follow-up duration was 8.7 years (range 1-35.8 years). Congenital heart defect was grouped as cyanotic and acyanotic. Results: Among the 1731 patients, 52.1% had congenital heart defects. Congenital heart defect was significantly more common in females than males. The most common cardiac defect was ventricular septal defect (35%), followed by atrial septal defect (31.8%), atrioventricular septal defect (23.4%), tetralogy of Fallot (5%), and patent ductus arteriosus (3.6%). In the follow-up, 43.2% of atrial septal defect, 17.8% of ventricular septal defect, and a total of 20% of congenital heart defects were closed spontaneously. About 34.4% of congenital heart defect was corrected by cardiac surgery/intervention. Five-year survival rate was 97.4% in patients without congenital heart defects, whereas it was 95.6% in mild congenital heart defects and 86.1% in moderate to severe congenital heart defects. There was no relationship between consanguinity, parental age, maternal disease, folic acid supplementation before/during pregnancy, gestational age, birth weight, and congenital heart defects. Neuromotor development was similar in patients with and without congenital heart defects. Conclusion: We demonstrated that almost half of the patients had congenital heart defects; ventricular septal defect was the most common congenital heart defect type. This study is valuable in terms of the largest single-center study describing the classification, prognostic factors, and survival of Down syndrome patients with congenital heart defect from Turkey. Background: he aim of this study was to evaluate the pathologies caused by mandibular impacted third molars in individuals living in the Şanlıurfa region. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study conducted at Harran University Faculty of Dentistry between 2018 and 2020, panoramic radiographs of 904 patients (525 females, 379 males) were analyzed. The prevalence, impaction and position of third molars, conditions and pathologies related to these teeth were evaluated. Results: 1664 mandibular third molars of 904 patients were analyzed. When the distribution by gender is examined, 42.79% are men and 57.21% are women. In terms of mandibular third molar position, 60.34% of the teeth are vertical. In terms of mandibular third molar eruption level, 61.39% of the teeth are at level A. When we look at pathologies based on teeth, there is 16.81% caries. Conclusions: While third molars may remain without any symptoms for a long period of life, they may cause caries, cysts and bone loss in adjacent teeth. Tooth extraction may be recommended prophylactically to prevent third molar teeth from causing greater pathology in later ages. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the most important morbidity and mortality reasons worldwide. The purpose of our study is to evaluate physician-diagnosed COPD epidemiology according to age groups. Methods: ICD10 J44.0-9 diagnoses codes in the database of Turkish Social Security Institution between 2007 and 2016 was checked through. Distribution of COPD through age groups (40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80 years and older) among male and female population still alive in 2016 was calculated. Results: 56.7% of 3,168,459 patients with average age of 62.53±15.07 were males. It was determined that 3.2% prevalence in female age group of 40-49 increased up to 23.1% in the age of 80+, 4.2% prevalence in male age group of 40-49 increased up to 35.3% in the age of 80+. In total, it increased from 3.7% to 27.7% in the same group of ages. Rate of the patients between the ages of 40-69 was calculated as 66% of the total number of patients. Discussion and Conclusion: As a result, physician-diagnosed COPD prevalence in Türkiye has an increasing trend by age both in male and female population. One out of each four individuals over the age of 80 years is diagnosed with COPD. Such an evaluation shows that COPD is more frequently in older ages. However, it is not correct to limit COPD as an advanced age disease, since the majority of the patient population is 70 years and under. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background/Aim: Rapid identification of patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) is crucial for clinical decision-making and healthcare management. Sarcopenia is characterized by muscle loss and increases the risks for adverse outcomes; there is limited information in the literature regarding possible links between sarcopenia and MPNs. This study evaluated the frequency of sarcopenia in patients with MPNs and investigated whether biochemical or clinical features were associated with the development of sarcopenia. Methods: Fifty-six BCR-ABL1-negative patients were included in this randomized prospective cohort research study. Muscle strength was measured using a handgrip dynamometer. Muscle mass was evaluated using a bioelectrical-impedance analyzer, and physical performance was evaluated via gait speed in a 6-minute walking test. Results: The mean handgrip strength of the cohort was 27.7 kg, and 13 patients (23.2%) tested positive for low muscle strength. Mean muscle mass was found to be 7.58 (1.17) kg/m², and seven patients (12.5%) exhibited low muscle mass. Three patients (5.4%) had low muscle quality. Nine patients (16.1%) were diagnosed with probable sarcopenia, and four patients (7.1%) were diagnosed with severe sarcopenia. There was no difference between the groups in terms of clinical features (P>0.05), nutritional assessment (macro and micronutrients) (P=0.959), comorbidities (P=0.476), or laboratory measurements (P>0.05). Conclusion: There was a high prevalence of sarcopenia among patients with MPNs, which indicates that periodic measurements of muscle strength, body composition and physical performance may contribute to the management of MPNs. Aim: Healthy asymptomatic individuals can be screened for various diseases using medical check-up programs. On the other hand, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) and prediabetes (PD), which are common metabolic disorders, are increasing worldwide. In this context, this study aims to determine the prevalence of DM and PD among the asymptomatic participants of a medical check-up program. Material and Methods: The population of this cross-sectional study consisted of 440 healthy, asymptomatic volunteers aged 40 years or older who attended a medical check-up program conducted between January and August 2021. Patients with confirmed morbidities or regular medication use and pregnant women were excluded from the study. All study participants underwent physical examination, laboratory test, and sonographic assessment. The study participants were grouped according to their glycemic states, i.e., DM, PD, and normoglycemia (NG). The study's primary outcomes were the prevalence of DM and PD. Results: The prevalence of DM and PD among the study participants was 12.5% (n=55) and 58.9% (n=259), respectively. The number of males was significantly higher in Group DM than in Groups PD and NG (p=0.014). Additionally, Group DM was significantly older than Groups PD and NG (p<0.001). Furthermore, there were significantly more participants in Group DM with high urea, creatinine, uric acid, triglyceride, and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) levels (p>0.05 for all cases). Conclusion: The prevalence of DM and PD in presumed healthy asymptomatic participants was 12.5% and 58.9%, respectively, indicating unusually high prevalence in this population. In conclusion, the results of this study demonstrate that it is imperative that presumed healthy individuals are screened within the scope of medical check-up programs and followed closely afterward. Aim: To describe the most common findings in orbital trauma and to support radiologic decision making by comparing them in 7 pathology regions. Material and Methods: A total of 190 patients (119 males and 71 females) participated in the study. Orbital injury pathologies were documented and compared in seven regions. The most typical results of orbital tomography were determined. Binominal regression analysis was also performed for each trauma region. Results: 190 orbital CT scans showed 13.7% orbital bone fractures (n=26), 7.9% bulbus pathology (n=15), 2.6% vitreous pathology (n=5), 2.1% extraocular muscle pathology (n=4), and 6.3% (n=13) retrobulbar pathology. The most common globe pathologies were lens displacement and globe rupture. Retrobulbar fat plane changes (4.2% n=8) were the most common pathology in the region. Periorbital edema was the most common periorbital disease in 86.3% of cases (n=164). When evaluated using cross-tabulations between the seven pathologic regions, the relationship between bone pathology and retrobulbar area and between globe and vitreous was statistically significant (p<0.05). In binominal regression analyses, 5 trauma models were significant and showed more than 80 percent success in predicting trauma location (p<0.05). Conclusion: Orbital fractures and pathologies of the retrobulbar space, globe and vitreous are interrelated. Radiologists should be familiar with orbital fracture patterns, potential soft tissue injuries and ocular anomalies and should be able to evaluate the relationship between pathologies. Due to their ubiquitous use, isothiazolinones caused allergic contact dermatitis epidemics and their use was restricted by legal regulations. We aimed to evaluate demographic data, clinical findings, and patch test features of patients with methylisothiazolinone (MI) and/or methylchloroisothiazolinone(MCI) sensitivity in our study. This study is a bidirectional and cross-sectional study, between July 2020 and September 2021. A total of 616 patients, including prospective and retrospective populations, demographic data, clinical findings, and patch test results were reviewed. Patients' demographics, patch test results, allergen sources, presence of occupational contact, and the characteristics of dermatitis attacks were recorded. A total of 50 patients with MI and MCI/MI sensitivity, 36 male (72%) and 14 female (28%), were included in our study. The overall prevalence of MI and MCI/MI between 2014 and 2021 was 8.4% (52/616) with two peak levels in 2015(21%) and 2021 (20%). A statistically significant relationship was found between shampoo use and facial involvement (p = 0.031), shower gel use and arm involvement (p = 0.027), wet wipe use and hand involvement (p = 0.049), detergent use and the pulps (p = 0.026) and the lateral aspects of fingers involvement (p = 0.048), water-based dye use and periungual involvement (p = 0.047). Although legal regulations related to MI and MCI/MI cause a decrease in the frequency of their sensitivities were still common causes of allergic contact dermatitis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper clarifies the medical and socio-economic factors affecting the prevalence of COVID-19 by using clinical and survey data in a binary probit model. Socio-economic factors are associated with risk of infection and can increase exposure to and mortality from COVID-19. Inequalities in socio-economic variables affect the prevalence to different degrees. Disparities in education and poverty are more important than being employed or being a smoker for the spread of COVID-19, we find evidence that confirms the hypothesis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Identification of the trend of polypharmacy over the years is as valuable as determining the common definitions for taking precautions. The aim of this systematic review is to reveal the frequency, commonly used definitions and its change over the years of polypharmacy in Turkey. The reporting of this systematic review follows to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA 2020) checklist. The MEDLINE and ULAKBIM TR Dizin databases were searched for relevant studies published until April, 2021. The studies conducted with patients >18 years in Turkey were included. A total of 361 articles were identified and 52 articles met the inclusion criteria. The most common definition of polypharmacy was 'combination of 5 or more drugs', followed by the definitions of 'two or more drugs' to '10 or more drugs"; and its prevalence ranged between 9% and 95% in the studies. It was determined that the most commonly used definition of polypharmacy was 'the use of 5 or more drugs'. The prevalence of polypharmacy in Turkey was appeared in a wide range and found higher than the studies in the literature. The prevalence and trends of polypharmacy over the years should be carefully observed, inappropriate use of medicines should be examined and necessary precautions should be taken accordingly. Hepatitis D virus (HDV) infection represents the most serious form of chronic hepatitis. Turkey is among the countries with high HDV and intermediate hepatitis B virus prevalence. In Turkey, hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccine series was included in the routine vaccination program in 1998. There have been regional differences in prevalence of HBV and HDV. Although a decline in HDV prevalence is estimated, there are uncertainties about the epidemic patterns of it. HDV prevalence was studied in varying groups and geographic regions. In this study, we aimed to analyse hepatitis D epidemiology in all groups and geographic regions in recent 35 years. During the study period of 35 years, 111 publications were noted. The analysis was done on the basis of three periods: 1999 and before (Period 1), 2000–2009 (Period 2), and 2010 and after (Period 3). The groups studied included inactive carrier state, chronic hepatitis B, all HBsAg‐positive individuals and special groups. Among inactive HBV carriers, HDV prevalence did not change significantly over three decades. Among patients with chronic hepatitis, studies reported decreasing (from Period 1 to Period 2) and then increasing (from Period 2 to period 3) HDV prevalence. The studies including all HBsAg‐positive patients reported decreasing (from Period 1 to Period 2) and then increasing (from Period 2 to period 3) HDV prevalence. Cumulative data of these 3 groups were taken to reveal HDV prevalence in HBV‐infected patients, and it showed decreasing (from Period 1 to Period 2) and then increasing (from Period 2 to period 3) HDV prevalence. Cumulative data of these 3 groups analysed according to the geographic regions of the country showed that Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia regions still have a high burden of HDV. The study showed that although HDV prevalence decreased from 8.3% in Period 1 to 4.8% in Period 2, it tended to increase 5.5% in Period 3. HDV infection is still a healthcare problem in Turkey. Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is the most common cause of premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Türkiye is among the countries with the highest rate of ASCVD. However, no population-based study has been published so far on the prevalence of FH, demographic and clinical characteristics, burden of ASCVD, treatment compliance, and attainment of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) targets. We performed a study using the Turkish Ministry of Health's national electronic health records involving 83,063,515 citizens as of December 2021 dating back 2016. Adults fulfilling the diagnostic criteria of definite or probable FH according to the Dutch Lipid Network Criteria (DLNC), and children and adolescents fulfilling the criteria of probable FH according to the European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) Consensus Panel report formed the study population (n = 157,790). The primary endpoint was the prevalence of FH. Probable or definite FH was detected in 0.63% (1 in 158) of the adults and 0.61% (1 in 164) of the total population. The proportion of adults with LDL-C levels >4.9 mmol/L (190 mg/dL) was 4.56% (1 in 22). The prevalence of FH among children and adolescents was 0.37% (1 in 270). Less than one-third of the children and adolescents, and two-thirds of young adults (aged 18–29) with FH were already diagnosed with dyslipidaemia. The proportion of adults and children and adolescents on lipid-lowering treatment (LLT) was 32.1% and 1.5%, respectively. The overall discontinuation rate of LLT was 65.8% among adults and 77.9% among children and adolescents. Almost no subjects on LLT were found to attain the target LDL-C levels. This nationwide study showed a very high prevalence of FH in Türkiye. Patients with FH are diagnosed late and treated sub-optimally. Whether these findings may explain the high rates of premature ASCVD in Türkiye needs further investigation. These results denote the urgent need for country-wide initiatives for early diagnosis and effective management of FH patients. Background: This systematic review aimed to synthesize the prevalence and correlates of depressive disorders and symptoms of Turkish and Moroccan immigrant populations in Northwestern Europe, formulating evidence-informed recommendations for clinical practice. Methods: We conducted a systematic search in PsycINFO, MEDLINE, Science Direct, Web of Knowledge, and Cochrane databases for records up to March 2021. Peer-reviewed studies on adult populations that included instruments assessing prevalence and/or correlates of depression in Turkish and Moroccan immigrant populations met inclusion criteria and were assessed in terms of methodological quality. The review followed the relevant sections of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses reporting (PRISMA) guideline. Results: We identified 51 relevant studies of observational design. Prevalence of depression was consistently higher among people who had an immigrant background, compared to those who did not. This difference seemed to be more pronounced for Turkish immigrants (especially older adults, women, and outpatients with psychosomatic complaints). Ethnicity and ethnic discrimination were identified as salient, positive, independent correlates of depressive psychopathology. Acculturation strategy (high maintenance) was related to higher depressive psychopathology in Turkish groups, while religiousness appeared protective in Moroccan groups. Current research gaps concern psychological correlates, second- and third-generation populations, and sexual and gender minorities. Conclusion: Compared to native-born populations, Turkish immigrants consistently showed the highest prevalence of depressive disorder, while Moroccan immigrants showed similar to rather moderately elevated rates. Ethnic discrimination and acculturation were more often related to depressive symptomatology than socio-demographic correlates. Ethnicity seems to be a salient, independent correlate of depression among Turkish and Moroccan immigrant populations in Northwestern Europe. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Aims: The Rome Foundation Global Epidemiology Study (RFGES) assessed the prevalence, burden, and associated factors of Disorders of Gut–Brain Interaction (DGBI) in 33 countries around the world. Achieving worldwide sampling necessitated use of two different surveying methods: In‐person household interviews (9 countries) and Internet surveys (26 countries). Two countries, China and Turkey, were surveyed with both methods. This paper examines the differences in the survey results with the two methods, as well as likely reasons for those differences. Methods: The two RFGES survey methods are described in detail, and differences in DGBI findings summarized for household versus Internet surveys globally, and in more detail for China and Turkey. Logistic regression analysis was used to elucidate factors contributing to these differences. Results: Overall, DGBI were only half as prevalent when assessed with household vs Internet surveys. Similar patterns of methodology‐related DGBI differences were seen within both China and Turkey, but prevalence differences between the survey methods were dramatically larger in Turkey. No clear reasons for outcome differences by survey method were identified, although greater relative reduction in bowel and anorectal versus upper gastrointestinal disorders when household versus Internet surveying was used suggests an inhibiting influence of social sensitivity. Conclusions: The findings strongly indicate that besides affecting data quality, manpower needs and data collection time and costs, the choice of survey method is a substantial determinant of symptom reporting and DGBI prevalence outcomes.
