Aim: This study was conducted to examine the mediating role of psychological resilience in the effect of strength of religious faith on coping with stress in people with type 2 diabetes. Design: This study has a cross‐sectional descriptive‐analytical study. Methods: It was conducted with 184 people with type 2 diabetes who were admitted to a family health centre in Erzurum, the east of Turkey. The data were collected by using the 'Santa Clara Strength of Religious Faith Questionnaire', 'Brief Resilience Scale (BRS)' and 'Scale of Ways of Coping With Stress (SWCS)'. The study was reported by following the STROBE recommendations. Structural equation modelling and bootstrapping method were used to analyse the data. This study was reported following the STROBE recommendations. Results: In the study, according to the model, the direct effect of strength of religious faith on SWCS (β = 0.564; p < 0.01) and BRS (β = 0.545; p < 0.01) was moderate, positive and significant. In addition, the effect of resilience on coping with stress (β = 0.320; p < 0.01) was also found to be moderate, positive and significant. The total effect of strength of religious faith on coping with stress mediated by resilience (β = 0.738; p < 0.01) was found to be highly positive and significant. The model explains 61.7% of the variance in coping with stress. Fit index values according to the model were found as χ2 = 2368.02, df: 980, χ2/df 2.368, RMSEA 0.088, CFI 0.773, TLI 0.760 and SRMR 0.083. It was found that strength of religious faith had a positive effect on coping with stress in people with type‐2 diabetes, and this effect was strengthened by the mediating role of psychological resilience. Patient or Public Contribution: This study shows the effect of religious belief and psychological resilience in increasing the coping skills of people with type‐2 diabetes. Therefore, taking religious beliefs and spirituality into consideration in nursing care may increase patients' coping skills. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The COG-TECH (Cognitive Technologies for Problem Solving and Learning) Network conducted three international projects between 1994 and 2001 under the auspices of the European Commission. The main purpose of these projects was to train teacher educators in the Mediterranean countries to use computers as effective pedagogical tools. The summer schools and local workshops organized by COG-TECH introduced teacher educators and teachers to a set of computer-based cognitive tools. Applied research in the projects addressed such issues as the development of appropriate content and effective methods for training teacher educators to use cognitive technologies in teaching, the identification of the strengths and limitations of several cognitive tools for different learning situations, and the factors affecting implementation of information and communication technology innovation in education.

Objective: This study was designed to examine the effect of blue light exposure and exposure time on puberty in an animal model. Methods: Eighteen 21-day-old female Sprague Dawley rats were divided into three equal groups which were: control group (CG); blue light-6 hours (BL-6); and blue light-12 hours (BL-12). CG rats were maintained with 12/12-hour light-dark cycles. The animals in BL-6 and BL-12 were exposed to blue light of wavelength 450-470 nm and intensity of 0.03 uW/cm2 for 6 and 12 hours, respectively. Exposure to blue light continued until the first signs of puberty. Serum follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol, testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S), leptin and melatonin were measured. Subsequently the ovaries and uterus were examined histomorphologically. Results: The median day of puberty start was 38, 32 and 30 for the CG, BL-6, and BL-12 groups, respectively (p=0.001). FSH, testosterone, DHEA-S, and leptin concentrations of all groups were similar. However, LH and estradiol concentrations in BL-6 were higher compared to CG (p=0.02). There was a negative correlation between blue light exposure, exposure time, and melatonin concentrations (r=-0.537, p=0.048). Ovarian tissue was compatible with puberty in all groups. As blue light exposure time increased, capillary dilatation and edema in the ovarian tissue increased. Prolonged exposure was associated with polycystic ovary-like (PCO) morphological changes and apoptosis in granulosa cells. Conclusion: These results suggest that exposure to blue light and the duration of exposure induced earlier puberty in female rats. As the duration of blue light exposure increased, PCO-like inflammation, and apoptosis were detected in the ovaries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores the ongoing relations between creative industries, cultural work and the formation of young Turkish creative professionals' self- realization practices under the existing conditions of Turkey's 'neo authoritarian' liberalism. Drawing on the relational work perspective from economic sociology and semi-structured interviews with the study's respondents (N:120), this article will be headed towards the reconsideration of social, economic, political and cultural constitutions of Turkish creative professionals' formation in the creative economies of Turkey. In contrast with the majority of existing studies on this topic, this study argues that, contemporary capitalism's impact on the creative professionals' formations is not the necessarily the same. Profound differences there exist. Especially, the cultural and economic constitutions of creative professionals' in any given states creative economies conditions. Therefore, my study would conclude that the impact of late capitalism on creative labour is not unidirectional at least not in Turkish labours case. Conversely, the post Fordist service economies provide some positive contributions to Turkish young creative labourers' subjectivities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This study aimed to investigate whether there is a relationship beween gender and learning style, mathematical achievement and attitude towards mathematics. The subjects of this study were 5th-semester students (42 females, 31 males) from the Mathematics Department at Anadolu University. The results of this study suggest that there were differences among learning modes preferred by female and male students, their mathematical achievements, and their attitudes towards mathematics. Mathematics achievement and attitude towards mathematics were not, themselves, dependent on gender. It was also noticed that while female students most preferred the Convergent learning style, male students most preferred the Assimilator learning style. No students were observed to prefer the Accommodator learning style in both groups. (Contains 5 figures and 3 tables.)

SOCIAL status , *PRODUCTIVE life span , *EQUALITY , *SOCIAL policy , *CIVIL service positions , *OLDER people - Abstract
Social policies, which have a history dating back to the Ancient Greek period, have become a central power as a power domain especially after the industrial revolution. Although this period has progressed mainly through the improvement and regulation of the conditions of the workers while the visibility of social policies are increasing, its scope and application area has expanded over time. These policies which expanding to include more disadvantaged groups such as women, elderly people, children and disabled, have shown how the government positions, directs, restricts, monitors or supervises these groups. On the other hand, although social policies, which are a power domain, have produced regulations based on the claim of equality, the masculine ideological foundations of power have maden the claims of these social policies of equality, gender equality and equal rights questionable from the ground up. This study aims to bring the position of women in social policies in Turkey up for discussion starting from the literature review and the Civil Servants Law No. 657 out of 4857 Labour Law with feminist ways of looking "subjectivity". This study, which deals with "power" from a Foucauldian perspective, will examine the field of "social policy" in which the power permeates, and will question the possibility of the subject of women through social policies. In this framework, two laws, which are the current legal regulations on working life, will be examined as one of the areas of social policy, and the possibility of women's subjectivity in these policies will be questioned. First of all, the field of social politics, which is a power domain over what power is and what it permeates, is addressed with a feminist perspective. Secondly, in the context of those two laws that constitute the functioning of working life to a great extent, the regulations regarding the working life of women have been evaluated on the themes of "motherhood", "housewife" and "working woman". This article examines the cultural and economic logics of social media celebrity constitution under the contemporary conditions of advanced capitalism. Although the past two decades have witnessed a great deal of interest in the constitution of social media celebrities in the new media ecosystem, little research directly deals with the constitution of this kind of 'statue' and contemporary capitalism nexus. In this sense, the present article, through the lens of immaterial labour theory, will focus on the following research question: how are Turkey's economic and political transitions reflected in the new media ecosystem, especially within the rising concept of neoliberal individualism? By taking up this question, this article will regard the cultural and economic logics of social media celebrities as immaterial labour and evaluate their role in the new media ecosystem by regarding Turkish YouTubers as its case study. This study argues that the constitution of social media celebrity and contemporary capitalism's commodification logic are strongly tied to each other. The present study has found that the constitution of social media celebrity under the contemporary conditions of capitalism is reproduced by the macro transformation process into a new media ecosystem, especially in the case of Turkish YouTubers. The gazelles (Gazella subgutturosa), which are at the risk of extinction and are legally protected, have a cultural and aesthetic value in Turkey. It becomes incredibly important to increase their numbers in order to ensure their survival. In this context, it is required to examine thoroughly the pelvic cavity which contains reproductive organs and is used as the birth canal, as well. This study was conducted to determine the pelvimetric data of the gazelles by scanning their pelvic cavity via a multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) and preparing three‐dimensional models of the pelvic cavity. Twelve adult (6 females, 6 males) gazelle carcasses were used in the study. After the pelvic cavity was scanned using the MDCT device with 64 detectors at 80 kV, 200 mA, 639 mGY and 0.625 mm cross‐section thickness, the MDCT images were obtained. The three‐dimensional models of the images obtained using MIMICS 20.1 (The Materialise Group, Leuven, Belgium) program were prepared. Pelvimetric measurements of the pelvic cavity were taken using these models. It was determined based on the pelvimetric examinations that there was a significant difference between the female and male gazelles in terms of conjugate diameter, vertical diameter, intermediate traversal diameter, and cranial and medial transverse diameter data at p <.05. Also, there was a significant difference in their data related to caudal transverse diameter and ischial arch at p <.01. Consequently, it is thought that the use of pelvimetric values belonging to the pelvic cavity of gazelles would reveal the sexual dimorphism of the species and its differences with other species and would contribute to clinical sciences. This paper investigates the impact of the recent terrorist attacks on the Turkish banking sector. Specifically, an event study analysis is executed to estimate the abnormal returns of banks' stocks in Turkey. According to the results, negative and significant abnormal returns were observed on the event dates of terrorist attacks, those of which especially occurred at international points and touristic places. The study continues with a regression analysis that looks into the cross-bank variation of abnormal returns by using important bank characteristics as predictors. The regression analysis exhibits that banks with higher leverage and larger size are prone to getting more negatively affected by the terrorist attack. On the other hand, banks with higher liquidity and higher income level are likely to have less negative abnormal returns. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study was carried out in order to find out the opinions of nursing and midwifery students about their professions. This cross-sectional and descriptive study was conducted on Health School students at Yuzuncu Yil University in 2014- 2015 spring term. 473 voluntary students were included in the study (except the cases of absence, suspension of registration and non-voluntary students). The data were collected by the question form prepared by the researchers, and were evaluated in SPSS software with the application of percentage and chi -squared tests. It was found that the majority of our students have chosen the profession due to the ease in finding a job. It was also found that half of our students had a desire to change their professions. On the other hand, the ones who made their career choice in the light of strong reasons did not have such intentions. While most of our students (9 2.8%) knew their profession was taking major roles in treatment and aftercare periods, a significant proportion (42.5%) did not consider their professional status positively, and almost half of them (43.6%) stated that they believed their profession was no t wellknown enough. Students stated that the education of nursing and midwifery needed to be given at the bachelor level (84.4%) and would like to specialize in branches of their profession. Students (87.9%) also were evaluated the participation of males to the profession positively. In the 21
st century, employment is a major reason for profession selection and our students seem to have made their choice in accordance with this reality. It was determined that our students were aware of the responsibilities of their profession, but were affected by the negative publ ic image of their professions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

In this study we investigate the duration of consumer price spells and price change patterns for Turkey by employing a comprehensive micro price data covering around 6,000 items over four years. In detail, we analyze how long typical price spell lasts and we investigate the size, frequency, distribution and synchronization of price changes. Compared to advanced economies, a higher frequency of price changes is estimated. Findings suggest substantial heterogeneity among sub-groups in terms of frequency and synchronization indicators. The mixed evidence of both state and time-dependent pricing is also relevant for Turkey, an emerging market economy. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Turkey has changed the essentials of its energy markets more than a decade ago. It was mainly a transition from a state-led model to a free-market one. Although some levels of progress is observable; security of supply, particularly in times of short term supply disruption had not been widely tested. Harsh winter conditions set a litmus test for Turkish energy markets. Basing on the this test, this paper provides an analysis of to what extent Turkey is open to the risks of energy supply security; and discusses possible measures to relieve future supply disruption risks. Energy policy-making should consider the fact that electricity and gas markets are highly intertwined in Turkey; and security of supply measures could have cross-market implications, paper concludes. This study is a book review of John Taylor Gatto's work titled "Weapons of Mass Instruction: A Schoolteacher's Journey through the Dark World of Compulsory Schooling". The purpose of this study is to evaluate strengths and weaknesses of the book, while providing an insight about how the book was organized and what the main theme is. Although the book was published in 2010, its translations to other languages were carried out later; as an illustration, it was published in Turkey in 2018. Hence, this book review may also provide a new perspective which would make a longitudinal comparison possible. The strongest aspect of the book reviewed can be nominated as its success in establishing a concrete view of the current education system in the USA from a chronological perspective, which reproduces a gigantic social stratum of consumerist, self-alienated and harmless voters. The foremost weakness of the book is the author's proposition of a new approach entitled by the author as open-source learning, which relies on an irrational sampling and could pave the way for child labor, where child abuse is a major problem. All in all, the language used in the book makes it possible for every individual from and out of educational spheres to evaluate education system from a critical perspective. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective The aim was to evaluate the clinical results of micro- and macrosurgical approaches in the coverage of gingival recession using connective tissue graft. Material and Methods Twenty-one teeth in microsurgical group (test group) and 21 in macrosurgical group (control group) were treated using coronally positioned flap and subgingival connective tissue graft. Recession depth ( RD), recession width ( RW), root surface area ( RSA), keratinized tissue width ( KTW), probing depth, clinical attachment level, pain level during healing, and aesthetic results were evaluated for 24 months. Results RD, RW, and RSA were significantly lower at 1, 3, 6, and 24th months compared with baseline in both groups. RD was also significantly lower in the 1st month compared with 24th month in control group. RD and RSA at 24th month were significantly lower in microsurgical group. KTW significantly and similarly increased by 6th month in both groups. The pain levels in the donor and the recipient area decreased earlier in the microsurgical group, and aesthetic scores improved similarly in both groups. Conclusion A microsurgical approach to root coverage with gingival recession is likely to preserve the clinical outcomes longer than macrosurgical approach, at least for 24 months. Healing appears to be faster using microsurgery, but aesthetic outcomes are similar. Clinical Significance This study evaluated the clinical results of microsurgical versus macrosurgical approaches to root coverage in cases of gingival recession. Based on the results of the study, pain levels in the donor and the recipient areas decreased earlier in the microsurgical group, and microsurgical approach resulted in significantly greater amount of root coverage at 24 months. Objective: To investigate the vaccination rate of influenza in diabetic children and the effect of recommendation and other factors on vaccination rate. Material and Methods: On July 2011, 144 diabetic children and their families were informed about and were recommended to receive the influenza vaccine every year, in September. On December 2011, parents were questioned about the vaccination. Results: Influenza vaccination rate of the previous season (28.3%) increased to 50.0% (p<0.05). Receiving the vaccine in 2010 was the only contributing factor to the recommendation success. The reasons given by the non-receivers were; forgetting (50.0%), fear of adverse-effects (26.4%), not believing in usefulness (15.2%), rejection by the child (4.2%) and effects of media (4.2%). 88.9% of those who forgot declared that they would receive if they were reminded at the beginning of the season. Conclusion: The rate of influenza vaccination was low. The majority of those who didn't recieve the vaccination declared that they would if they were reminded at the beginning of the season and the fact that "receiving the vaccine in 2010" was the only factor influencing the recommendation success indicate that recommending isn't enough but that reminding and giving detailed information about the vaccine will increase vaccination rates independent of other factors. Aim: The age-related values of penile length must be known to determine abnormal penis sizes and to follow the treatment of underlying diseases. The aim of this study is to evaluate abnormal penile length in Turkish children by establishing novel reference values for Turkish population and to compare the mean penile length and other parameters with alternates from different ethnic populations and geography. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on a voluntary basis between November 2008 and November 2009 from four centres in Turkey and comprised of 1278 healthy volunteered prepubertal children. Complete stretched penile length and penis circumference measurements were used for penile length and penis circumference evaluations, respectively. All measurements were taken twice by only one investigator, and mean values were recorded. Results: Penile length and penis circumference for every age group were obtained, percentile curves were established and these findings were compared with the results of previous studies. Significant differences were found between penile length of Turkish children and recently used reference values. Conclusion: With this study, novel reference values for penile length in prepubertal children were presented to the literature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Popular beliefs about the position of women as secluded and restricted in Ottoman society and in the household have led to theories about how their position affected the layout of houses. The present study proceeds from the premise that spatial conditions are affected by, and also affect, social conditions that require domestic interiors to be structured so as to embody spec~fIc encounter patterns between genders. Based on this presumption, the study investigates how spatial patterns and encounter patterns take hold systematically in various traditional houses in Turkey. This paper draws on a previous study that analyzed traditional house plans from the 17th through the 19th centuries in different regions of Turkey through the use of the principles of space syntax. The previous study iden/Uled five pervasive configurational themes characterized by differing orders of integration of spaces defining the key domestic functions of cooking, living, and receiving. Four of these themes constructed the domestic interior around the function of cooking and were ident~fled as belonging to the cooking-integrating type (C-type). In the fifth theme, the integrated living space structured the configurational differences between cooking and receiving and was called the living-integrating type (L-type). The present analysis found that the C-type houses, regardless of the various locations where they appeared, were spatial systems that produced and controlled gender relations in the spatial dimension. Rather than focusing on spatial control ofgender interactions, the L-type embodied relations among inhabitants in a domestic interior in which the reproduction ofpossible d~JJerences between genders emerged mostlyfrom the social processes built into space. Besides the physical spec~,fIcations of space, aspects of the social and cultural processes drove L-type houses to form and perpetuate shared knowledge about women ~ positions in the household and society. FORTUNE-telling , *OCCULTISM , *ETRUSCANS , *ITALIANS , *ITALIC peoples , *SUPERNATURAL - Abstract
The human in ancient times regarded certain supernatural objects or events, which looked superior to them as celestial because he was afraid of the nature. As a result, he made up a number of totems in the nature such as the sun, moon, sky, soil, water, plants and etc.; for this reason all religious movements were built on a politeist and pantheonist mind. On the other hand, the irresistible desire in man to find out what gods thought of him was the main constituent of the fortune-telling. As in all ancient societies, Hittites and Etruscans also developed certain techniques of fortune-telling to know about the theological wish, among which were fortune-telling of liver or bird-flying. In this study, in spite of the highly distant time zones of Hittites and Etruscans, these two similar techniques were depicted. In that way, it is correlated that there could be a cultural link between Hittites, who established a prominent civilization in Anatolia, and Etruscans, assumed to be an Anatolian originated society before establishing another prominent civilization in Europe, who also had a prominent effect on Roman culture. DENTITION ,INFANTS ,DENTISTRY ,COHORT analysis - Abstract
Background. Teething is a developmental process and occurs over a broad chronological age range. Objective. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of feeding pattern and growth parameters on teething time of healthy infants. Methods. A total of 1200 term newborn infants followed up in Gazi University well-child clinic infants were evaluated, and their growth parameters, feeding patterns, and timing of the eruption of the first tooth were noted. The routine visit times of the clinic were chosen as the cut-off values for teeth eruption for logistic regression analysis for investigating factors that determine the timing of teeth eruption. Results. Timing of the eruption of the first tooth ranged from 4 to 13 months. On the sixth month visit, 24.3%, and on the ninth month visit 84.5% of all infants had at least one tooth. Height-adjusted weight and height percentiles being less than 50, being fed by cow's milk or by formula in the first year, were independent factors negatively influencing teeth eruption by the sixth month, while all but height-adjusted weight percentiles being less than 50 had negative impact on tooth eruption by the ninth month. Conclusion. Growth parameters and feeding pattern may be determinants of the timing of teeth eruption in healthy infants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We investigated expressions of PD-L1, LAG-3, TIM-3, and OX40L as immune checkpoint proteins, and MSI (repetitive short-DNA-sequences due to defective DNA-repair system) status were analyzed with immunohistochemistry from tissue blocks. Of 83 patients, PD-L1 expression was observed in 18.1% (n = 15) of the patients. None of the patients exhibited LAG-3 expression. TIM-3 expression was 4.9% (n = 4), OX40L was 22.9% (n = 19), and 8.4% (n = 7) of the patients had MSI tumor. A low-to-intermediate positive correlation was observed between PD-L1 and TIM-3 expressions (rho: 0.333, p < 0.01). Although PD-L1 expression was higher in grade 3 NET/NEC, MSI status was prominent in grade 1/2 NET. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
