Background and Purpose: Cancer patients experience physical and psychological ailments resulting from cancer illness, a difficult and long treatment process and fear of death. Nurse-patient interaction seems to play an important role when responding to the psychological needs of patients with cancer. The aim of this study is to adapt and examine the psychometric properties of the Nurse-Patient Interaction Scale (NPIS) among Turkish cancer patients. Design and Method: In a cross-sectional design, patients receiving cancer treatment at Farabi hospital in Turkey responded to the Personal Information Form and the NPIS. Descriptive statistics, principal component analysis (PCA), and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were applied. Findings: The NPIS was found to be suitable for a single factor structure, including 11 out of the original 14 items. Background: Although primarily stemming from research conducted in high-income countries, culturally sensitive knowledge of women's experiences with and needs during childbirth, as well as how such experiences affect their psychological health and wellbeing, is important to add to the big picture of women's experiences with childbirth worldwide., Aim: The aim of the study was to clarify how primiparous women in Turkey experience childbirth and intrapartum care., Methods: Grounded theory guided depth-interviews with 12 women, whose data were analysed according to the constant comparative method., Findings: Participants reported wanting vaginal birth without interventions (i.e. normal birth), which required their empowerment as well as support from others. Although they recognised their readiness for the birth process as a decisive factor in coping with childbirth, they prioritised quality of care from healthcare professionals during birth, which most participants found unsatisfactory. They also highlighted the importance of giving birth in a health-promoting environment offering privacy, silence and comfort., Discussion: To support normal birth, the World Health Organization's intrapartum care model prioritises continuity of care, respectful labour and childbirth care, effective communication from healthcare personnel and emotional support from a companion of choice. Salutogenesis can also guide clinical birth practices to promote normal birth and positive birth experiences., Conclusion: All women strove to experience normal birth, which required antenatal education and emotional support from a partner or family and from healthcare professionals. Purpose: The present study aims to test the reliability and validity of the Turkish Sexual Esteem subscale of Multidimensional Sexuality Questionnaire in men and women and to examine the association of fertility and sexual esteem in Turkish women. Material and Methods: The full sample was utilized for the psychometric validation, that was the construct validity and the reliability of the Turkish Sexual Esteem subscale of the Multidimensional Sexuality Questionnaire, consisting of 335 individuals. A subsample consisting of 214 fertile and infertile Turkish women, was used for the analytical study. Data were collected by an online questionnaire. We performed descriptive statistics on both samples; confirmatory factor analysis was applied to test the psychometric properties of the Sexual Esteem Subscale, while the associations in fertile and infertile women were evaluated by means of linear regression analysis. Results: The reliability was supported by significant factor loadings and several goodness-of-fit indices. However, the construct (content) validity might be limited. It seems that the items included in the MSQ Sexual Esteem subscale are too narrowly worded. When comparing sexual esteem in infertile women with fertile women, we found that infertile women had higher sexual esteem than fertile women. Conclusion: The Turkish version of the Sexual Esteem subscale is scarcely valid and highly reliable in the Turkish population. Purpose: To examine the effect of individualized reminiscence therapy on the management of global distress and physical and psychological symptoms, life satisfaction and self-transcendence levels of palliative care patients., Methods: In a single-center palliative care service in western Turkey, 48 patients without cognitive impairment and able to communicate were included in the study. However, 44 patients completed the study. Patients who met the inclusion criteria were randomly assigned to the reminiscence therapy (intervention), unstructured social interviewing (placebo), and control groups (16 people for each group) before the start of the study. The sessions for the interview and placebo groups were conducted face-to-face in the patient's room (while the patient was sitting or lying down) for 15 days (2 weeks), every other day, for a total of eight sessions (each session was approximately 30 min). Data collection instruments-the Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale, the Contentment with Life Assessment Scale, and the Self-Transcendence Scale-were collected at baseline (first day) and after the intervention (day 15 th ). Statistical significance level was accepted as p < 0.05., Results: There was no decrease in physical and total symptom burden (p > 0.05). There were significant reductions in general distress and psychological symptoms in the intervention and placebo groups within the group (p < 0.05), but there were no significant differences between the control group and all groups when compared (p > 0.05). Group × time interactions were statistically significant for life satisfaction and self-transcendence (p < 0.001), and there was a substantial increase in the intervention group compared to the other groups., Conclusion: It may be recommended that reminiscence therapy intervention be included in routine nursing care as it may contribute positively to the psychological recovery of palliative care patients approaching the end of life., Trial Registration: ClinicalTrails.gov (Registration number: NCT05242016). This study was conducted in order to determine factors that influence self-transcendence and meaning in life in the elderly receiving institutional care. This descriptive and analytic study was conducted on 72 elderly individuals living in a nursing home in Turkey. Data were collected with the Barthel Index of Activities of Daily Living (ADL), the Lawton&Brody Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL), the Meaning in Life Questionnaire (MLQ) and the Self-Transcendence Scale (STS). The mean score of STS is 48.17 ± 6.67 at the intermediate level, and the mean scores of presence and search subscales of the MLQ are 28.07 ± 6.55 and 24.06 ± 7.73 above the intermediate level. The STS mean score is poorly correlated with the ADL (r = 0.277) and the IADL scale (r = 0.343). Increased perception of general health status of the elderly improved self-transcendence (ST) level (p = 0.04) and search for meaning in life (ML) level (p = 0.02). These findings show that the health perceptions of the elderly must be improved in the first place.

The present study aims to investigate the mediator role of educational stress in the relationship between intolerance to uncertainty and academic life satisfaction among teenagers. The sample consisted of 257 female and 202 male high school students with an average age of 16.03 (SD = 1.21) continuing their education in the spring semester of the 2020−2021 academic year in Turkey. The data were collected via an online survey. Analyses revealed that intolerance of uncertainty directly and indirectly via educational stress affects the academic life satisfaction of teenagers. Educational stress partially mediates the relationship. It was also found that the full mediation model has a good fit with the data. The academic life satisfaction of teenagers was harmed by their tendencies in tolerating the uncertainties they have been facing during the COVID‐19 pandemic and elevated levels of educational stress. The aim of this study is to examine the perceptions and experiences of older people regarding health promotion. Using a phenomenological design, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 22 older people. Data analysis was carried out according to the Colaizzi's method. The analysis revealed five themes (health-promoting activities, outcome expectations, triggers for activities, supporting factors, perceived obstacles). Older people emphasized healthy eating, walking, avoiding stress, and having health checkups as health-promoting behaviors. It was determined that the older people made efforts to display health-promoting behaviors, but they performed the activities insufficiently. The study findings show that interventions to be developed to improve the health of older people should aim at both cognitive and behavioral changes. Nurses should plan multidisciplinary and community-based interventions to reduce the socioeconomic and environmental factors that prevent older people from participating in health-promoting activities. Aims: This study examined the relationships between self‐transcendence and depressive symptoms, self‐esteem, and locus of control in persons with substance abuse disorder (SUDs). Methods: This descriptive‐relational study examined 115 participants who had been diagnosed with SUD. Results: High self‐transcendence scores were positively associated with lower levels of depressive symptoms, higher levels of self‐esteem, and internal locus of control. Practice implications: Mental health nurses are effective at finding and maintaining resources that promote self‐transcendence and support the potential and well‐being of individuals with SUD. This study addresses a research gap regarding self‐transcendence in such individuals; it provides a basis for nurses to develop interventions to strengthen the mental health of patients and conduct future investigations on the topic. Background: Midwives frequently encounter ethical dilemmas in a critical unit such as a delivery room. Determining these ethical dilemmas is very important to prevent ethical problems and develop an ethical approach. Aim: This study aims to identify the ethical dilemma experiences of midwives working in delivery rooms in Turkey. Research design: This study follows a qualitative phenomenological research design. Participants and research context: The sample comprised 13 midwives with at least two years working experience in delivery rooms, having completed the midwifery program of Manisa Celal Bayar University Health Sciences Institute in the 2017–2018 academic year. Data were collected through audio-recorded semi-structured interviews to reveal their experiences. Content analysis was done using the Nvivo software package program. All interviews were digitally recorded, transcribed verbatim, and transferred into NVivo for analysis. Ethical considerations: Ethical approval was granted by Manisa Celal Bayar University University Health Sciences Ethics Committee (Date: 16.12.2016 No: 372). Participation in this study was voluntary. Written and verbal consent was gained. These consents include protecting midwives' privacy, keeping information confidential, and/or allowing the participant to remain anonymous. Findings: Four themes were identified: differences of approach to the birth process, hospital management, communication, and differences in ethical approach. Several factors explained these ethical dilemmas while the midwives adopted different approaches to ethical decision making. Discussion: These midwives experienced various dilemmas while working in the delivery room and are aware of most of them. They also took responsibility in the decision-making process and experienced many intense emotions that they had to cope with. Conclusion: The ethical dilemmas faced by these midwives while working in delivery rooms were mainly caused by hierarchy. Future studies could investigate clarifying job descriptions of midwives, who are authorized to manage normal births under their own responsibility, within the hospital management and the health care team. This study aims to examine the relationship between the levels of hopelessness, loneliness, and spiritual well-being of patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes during the process of COVID-19 outbreak. The study was carried out with diabetic patients living in three different cities that are in the Eastern Anatolia region of Turkey between the dates of 15 of November and 30 of November 2020. The sample of the study consisted of 500 (Type 1, n = 218, Type 2, n = 282) diabetes patients. Data were collected using a demographic information form, Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS), Loneliness Scale (UCLA-LS), and Spiritual Well-being Scale (FACIT–Sp). While the mean scores of hopelessness and loneliness of type 1 patients were below the moderate level, the mean scores of their spiritual well-being were found to be above the moderate level. Moreover, while the mean scores of hopelessness and loneliness in type 2 patients were below the moderate level, the mean scores of their spiritual well-being were found above the moderate level. A significant relationship was found between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes patients' levels of hopelessness, loneliness, and spiritual well-being during the COVID-19 outbreak. It was found that as the spiritual well-being levels of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetic patients increased, the levels of their loneliness and hopelessness decreased. It is recommended that mass communication that includes spiritual care practices can be used effectively to reduce diabetes patients' levels of loneliness and hopelessness during the pandemic. In addition, while providing care to diabetes patients, it can be suggested that health professionals offer a holistic approach with initiatives that will increase diabetes patients' spiritual well-being. The aim of this study was to determine the hopelessness, loneliness and spiritual well-being of older adults and the relationship between these three concepts during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research used a cross-sectional, descriptive approach. Data were collected between October 13 and November 13, 2020, with 476 individuals over 65 years living in three different cities in Turkey. Data were collected using a demographic information form, Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS), Loneliness Scale (UCLA-LS) and Spiritual Well-being Scale (FACIT–Sp). During the COVID-19 outbreak, it was found that there was a significant negative relationship between hopelessness, loneliness and spiritual well-being of older adults. In this study, it was found that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the level of hopelessness and loneliness among older adults was below the average score, and their spiritual well-being levels were moderate. Based on the findings of the present study, it is recommended that practices which increase hope, strengthen social ties and spiritual support, should be implemented for older individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic period or any other times during which social distancing is mandatory. Introduction: This research was carried out in order to evaluate nursing students' attitudes and behaviours towards caring nurse-patient interaction. Materials and Method: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out with 549 nursing students in 2nd, 3rd and 4th years of nursing programmes in Government Universities in Istanbul. Data were collected using an "Information Form" and "Caring Nurse-Patient Interaction Scale". Data analysis was performed with percentage, arithmetic mean, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD advanced analysis. Results: It was found that %85.6 of the students were female, the average age of 21.63+1.56. The means of overall scale for the importance, competence and applicability aspects were 314.2+37.2, 280.4+40.3, 272.6+50.1, respectively. Gender, graduated school, reasons for choosing nursing, grade level, having communication difficulties, negative experiences with patients or their relatives affected nursing students attitudes and behaviours toward Caring Nurse-Patient Interaction Scale (p<0.05). Conclusion: Nursing students considered that attitudes and behaviors towards Caring Nurse-Patient Interaction Scale are very important. However, they found these interventions lower applicable and felt lower competent. There are factors affecting the attitudes and behaviours of students. This study aims to examine whether stress and the dimensions of spirituality (i.e., anomie, transcendence, and harmony) affect teachers' well-being. A total of 378 teachers working in various cities in Turkey have participated in the research. The PERMA, Spiritual Well-Being, and Perceived Stress Scales were used to collect the data. The structural equation model and correlational was used to analyse the data. According to the results, stress is a meaningful predictor of anomie; anomie is a meaningful predictor of transcendence, harmony with nature, and happiness; and transcendence is a meaningful predictor of happiness. Stress and harmony with nature are not meaningful at predicting happiness. The obtained data were considered to provide psychological counselors with information on how to use spirituality in the counseling environment and information on the relationships between stress and well-being. Background: Culture is an important factor to determine fear of childbirth which is shaped by social learning processes. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of fear of childbirth among Turkish healthy pregnant women. Method: The researchers reviewed the eight databases considering inclusion criteria and 14 studies were included. The data analysis was conducted using meta-analysis. Results: Pregnant women experienced severe levels of fear, 67.26 ± 4.08, 95% confidence interval [59.26, 75.26], and 21 out of every 100 women experienced clinical level of fear. Between study variance was significant for parity (Qb = 6.40, p =.04) and region (Qb = 19.14, p =.00) moderators. Conclusions: The high level of FOC, particularly in the Eastern region, suggests that some of the cultural factors in the Eastern region in Turkey negatively affect the birth expectations. In a country like Turkey with a multicultural population, the health care professional should provide culturally sensitive care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Psychiatric nurses should consider the patient's biological, psychological and social aspects. Marjory Gordon's Functional Health Pattern Model ensures a holistic approach for the patient. Aim: To examine the effectiveness of Gordon's Functional Health Pattern Model in reducing depressive symptoms, increasing self ‐ efficacy, coping with depression and increasing hope in people with depression. Design: A quasi ‐ experimental two ‐ group pre ‐ test and post ‐ test design was adopted. Methods: Data were collected from April 2013 to May 2014 from people with depression at the psychiatry clinic of a state hospital in Turkey; they were assigned to the intervention (n = 34) or control group (n = 34). The intervention group received nursing care according to Gordon's Functional Health Pattern Model and routine care, while the control group received routine care only. The Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Hopelessness Scale and Depression Coping Self ‐ Efficacy Scale were used. Results: The intervention group had significantly lower scores on the Beck Depression Inventory and Beck Hopelessness Scale at the post ‐ test and 3 ‐ month follow ‐ up; they had higher scores on the Depression Coping Self ‐ Efficacy Scale at the 3 ‐ month follow ‐ up when compared with the control group. Limitation: The study was conducted at only one psychiatry clinic. The intervention and control group patients were at the clinic at the same time and influenced each other. Moreover, because clinical routines were in progress during the study, the results cannot only be attributed to nursing interventions. Discussion: Nursing models offer guidance for the care provided. Practices based on the models return more efficient and systematic caregiving results with fewer health problems. Conclusion: Gordon's Functional Health Pattern Model was effective in improving the health of people with depression and could be introduced as routine care with ongoing evaluation in psychiatric clinics. More research is needed to evaluate Gordon's Nursing Model effect on people with depression. Future studies could focus on the effects of this nursing model on people with other psychiatric disorders. Implications for nursing and health policy: This study highlighted that psychiatric nurses' role decreased depressive symptoms and hopelessness, and increased coping and self ‐ efficacy in people with depression.
