Context: Analyzing flick movement kinematics biomechanically is important to prevent sport-related injuries in underwater hockey players since the aquatic-based flick movement is completely different from land-based flick movements. The study aimed to describe the flick movement kinematic biomechanically in underwater hockey players. Moreover, this study further aimed to investigate the effect of the Thrower's Ten exercises on flick movement kinematics in underwater hockey players. Design: Descriptive laboratory study. Methods: Seventeen underwater hockey players (age: 26.2 [4.3] y; sports age: 6.2 [4.5] y) were included. First, 2 underwater cameras using motion capture video analysis MATLAB were used to biomechanically analyze the angular changes on the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and body while players were performing the flick movements. Players were then recruited to the Thrower's Ten exercise program for 6 weeks. Flick movement kinematics and flick-throwing distance were recorded at baseline and 6 weeks. Results: The flick movement kinematic patterns demonstrated increased shoulder flexion (from 102.5° to 144.9°), wrist extension (from 9.5° to 10.8°), and upper-extremity rotation (from 5.7° to 56.8°) while decreased elbow extension (from 107.7° to 159.2°) from the stick met the puck until the competition of the movement. The Thrower's Ten exercises improved the elbow extension (P =.04), wrist extension (P =.01), body rotation (P <.001), and flick-throwing distance (P <.001) from baseline to 6 weeks. Conclusion: This study describes the underwater flick kinematic technique biomechanically and interprets preliminary findings for the first time. Thus, 6 weeks of Thrower's Ten exercise program provides more body muscle movements than the smaller ones during the flick movements and higher flick-throwing distance in underwater hockey players. Objective: Following the COVID-19 outbreak, authorities recommended preventive measures to reduce infection rates. However, adherence to calls varied between individuals and across cultures. To determine the characteristics of effective health communication, we investigated three key features: message source, content, and audience. Methods: Using a pre-test and two experiments, we tested how message content (emphasizing personal or social benefit), audience (individual differences), message source (scientists or state officials), and their interaction influence adherence to preventive measures. Using fliers advocating preventive measures, Experiment 1 investigated the effects of message content and examined the moderator role of individual differences. Experiment 2 presented the messages using news articles and manipulated sources. Results: Study 1 found decreasing adherence over time, with no significant impact from message content or individual differences. Study 2 found messages emphasizing 'protect yourself' and 'protect your country' to increase intentions for adherence to preventive measures. It also revealed an interaction between message source and content whereby messages emphasizing personal benefit were more effective when they came from healthcare professionals than from state officials. However, message source and content did not affect vaccination intentions or donations for vaccine research. Objective: To develop an empathy scale to measure the empathy in nurses. Materials and methods: The sample of the study were collected between March and May in 2023 from 720 nurses working in private and state hospitals in İstanbul. Both exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were carried out. IBM SPSS and AMOS were utilized for statistical analyses. Results: KMO and Bartlett's test values of scale showed that the dataset was convenient for factor analyses (KMO = 0.94, Chi-Square = 9683.89, df = 595). In exploratory factor analysis, the 16 items comprising scale were distributed in three subscales. The confirmatory factor analysis revealed that the scale was in sufficient model fit. Cronbach's alpha of the total scale was 0.91. Conclusion: Empathy scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool to evaluate the empathy levels of nurses in three subscales: Emotional Empathy, Cognitive Empathy and Compassionate Empathy. Background: In daily life, there has been a need to establish verbal communication with sentences instead of single-syllable words and to be tested with sentences that better reflect social life. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate signal noise ratio thresholds and speech comprehension scores in noise in children with severe sensorineural hearing loss by using real ambient noises, four-word spectral balanced sentences, and light, medium, and high input signal levels. Results: A total of 40 children, including 20 children with severe sensorineural hearing loss, using bilateral hearing aids, (10.23 ± 1.64) and 20 children with normal hearing (9.25 ± 1.48), aged 8–12 years, were included in the study. The newly developed Turkish Mobile Sentence Test for Distinguish Speech in Real Noises was applied to the participants. This test is performed using spectral and coherence balanced 4-word sentences, at − 10 dB, − 5 dB, 0 dB, 5 dB, and 10 dB SNR thresholds and 40, 60, and 80 dB sound levels at shopping mall and amusement park. Children with hearing loss had higher signal noise ratio thresholds at all sound levels in shopping malls, amusement parks, and classroom environments, and their speech comprehension scores in noise were lower at these thresholds (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Children with hearing loss aged 8–12 have difficulties in verbal communication, in real ambient noises, and in speech discrimination tests, even with 4-word sentences at mild, medium, and high levels of intensity, compared to children with normal hearing. Introduction: The increased use of dietary supplements is a consequence of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Although their efficacy has not been consistently proven, they have been perceived as a preventive tool against COVID-19. Less strict regulations and debates on their definitions in a regulatory framework raise concerns about safety issues. Apart from dietary supplement use, information demand has increased, and pharmacists have played a key role as accessible health professionals. This study aimed to reveal the opinions of community pharmacists, pharmacy staff, sector representatives, and academicians regarding the sale and use of dietary supplements during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A qualitative study approach was followed, using grounded theory. Data were collected between September 2021 and July 2022, analyzed using MAXQDA 2020 software, and reported according to the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research. Results: After refining the open codes, two themes emerged: dietary supplements and the effects of the pandemic. It was found that increased dietary supplement use was rooted in COVID-19 fear, promotional activities, and social media influence. The interaction between consumers and the dietary supplement industry is bidirectional. Conclusions: Pharmacies, as access points for these products, played a crucial role in struggling with the effects of the pandemic. Although dietary supplements are considered safe, their potential for adverse reactions poses a public health risk. Flexible regulations, unregulated alternative advertising channels, and a lack of awareness of the safety of these products pose a challenge to public health. Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare femoral neck anteversion (FNA) and determine the prevalence of increased FNA in male elite youth soccer players with and without chronic ankle instability (CAI). Secondary aims were to evaluate the utility of FNA in predicting CAI and compare ankle and hip muscle strength in the two groups. Materials and methods: The study included a total of 44 male elite youth soccer players, 22 with CAI (mean age 16.09 ± 1.34) and 22 without CAI (mean age 16.73 ± 1.28). FNA was measured with Craig's test, range of motion (ROM) was measured with a universal goniometer, and ankle and hip maximum voluntary isometric strength (MVIS) was measured with a handheld dynamometer. Results: The mean FNA angles of the CAI and control groups were 15.82° ± 1.44° and 12.09° ± 2.37°, respectively (p > 0.05). FNA was greater than 15° in 72% of the CAI group versus 4% of the control group (p < 0.05). A 1° increase in FNA was associated with threefold higher odds of having CAI (odds ratio 3.06, 95% confidence ratio: 1.37–6.81, p < 0.01). Mean ankle eversion and hip abduction MVIS values were 2.67 ± 0.52 Nm/kg and 3.83 ± 0.48 Nm/kg in the CAI group, compared to 3.03 ± 0.58 Nm/kg and 4.46 ± 0.98 Nm/kg in the control group, respectively (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Male elite youth soccer players with CAI had greater FNA and were more likely to have increased FNA than those without CAI. They also exhibited ankle eversion and hip abduction muscle strength deficiencies compared to peers without CAI. FNA may be useful as a predictor of CAI in male elite youth soccer players. This paper focused on the effectiveness of a parent empowerment intervention based on nursing education (PEINE). This study examined whether the intervention improved the quality of life of children with cystic fibrosis (CF) and improved their caregivers learn about the disease and develop problem-solving and coping skills. This randomized-controlled trial used a pretest-posttest parallel-group research design. The sample consisted of 48 parents (caregivers) of children with CF. Participants were randomly assigned to an intervention (n = 24) and a control group (n = 24). The intervention group received PEINE and standard care and treatment for ten weeks. The control group received standard care and treatment. Data were collected using a Disease Information Survey (DIS), the Ways of Coping Inventory (WCI), the Problem-Solving Inventory (PSI), and the Cystic Fibrosis Questionnaire (CFQ-R). After the intervention, the intervention group DIS scores (d: 1,627 [CI: 0.934,2.305], had more correct answers than the control group. Nursing interventions were effective (p <.001). There was no significant difference in the mean pretest-posttest PSI scores (d: 0.378 [CI: −0.221-0.972], posttest WCI scores (d: 0.239 [CI:-0.356-0.831]) between the intervention and control groups (p>.05). There was a significant difference in the mean posttest CFQ-R scores between the intervention and control groups (d: 1.363 [CI: l.698, 2.015]);(p <.001). PEINE increased the intervention group participants develop disease-management skills. However, the increase in their PSI and WCI scores was statistically insignificant. PEINE also increased the quality of life of children with CF. Parents of children followed in pediatric pulmonary diseases participated in the study. Parents were informed during outpatient clinic visits. After the first meeting, the children and parents who voluntarily agreed to participate in the research were contacted by phone. The outpatient nurse assisted in communicating with children and parents. What is already Known Planned nursing education positively affects disease management. Problem solving and coping skills of parents of children with chronic diseases are negatively affected. Health-related quality of life in children with CF varies depending on parent-related variables (disease knowledge, problem solving and coping with stress, etc.). Background: Patellofemoral pain and patellofemoral osteoarthritis are highly prevalent knee disorders associated with pain and functional limitations. The subscale of the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score for patellofemoral pain and osteoarthritis (KOOS-PF) was developed to evaluate patients with patellofemoral pain and osteoarthritis. Purpose: This study aims to translate the KOOS-PF into Turkish and assess its measurement properties. Methods: The Turkish version of the KOOS-PF was tested for reliability and validity in a convenience sample of 55 patients with patellofemoral pain and/or osteoarthritis. Reliability analyses were conducted through a retest 7–14 days later with a subgroup of 35 patients. The KOOS-PF was compared with Kujala's Anterior Pain Scale (AKPS) and the Short Form-36 health survey (SF-36) to assess construct validity. Additionally, responsiveness analyses were performed on 29 patients who were followed up with a home-based exercise program three months later. Results: The Turkish version of KOOS-PF has high test-retest reliability (ICC2,1 = 0.96) and internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.91). It has a very good correlation with the AKPS (r = 0.77) and the SF-36 physical component summary (r = 0.64) with no floor or ceiling effects. Responsiveness is confirmed by a good correlation with the global rating of change score (r = 0.51). The minimal clinically important change is 16.5 points, and the minimal important difference is 10.2. Introduction: Kartagener's syndrome (KS), consisting of bronchiectasis, situs inversus totalis, and sinusitis, is a subtype of primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD). The presence of KS may affect respiratory and physical functions. Purpose: This study aimed to compare respiratory functions, exercise capacity, muscle strength, and physical activity levels among children with PCD with/without KS and healthy peers. Methods: Fifteen patients with KS, 23 with PCD without KS, and 27 controls were compared. Pulmonary function, functional exercise capacity (6-minute walk test − 6MWT), maximal inspiratory, expiratory (MIP, MEP), and skeletal muscle strength, inspiratory muscle endurance (IME), and physical activity level were evaluated. Results: The forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) % (p =.009), forced expiratory flow from 25%-75% (FEF25–75%) % (p =.001), MIP (p =.034), MEP (p =.003), 6MWT distance (p =.001), and daily steps (p =.034) were significantly different among the groups. Quadriceps femoris (QF) muscle strength and IME were similar in groups (p ˃.05). FEV1% (p =.002), FEF25–75% % (p =.001), MIP (p =.027), MEP (p =.001), and 6MWT distance (p =.003) in patients with KS; 6MWT distance (p =.003) in patients with PCD without KS was significantly lower than controls. Conclusion: The presence of KS affects pulmonary function, respiratory muscle strength, and physical activity more. Exercise capacity and physical activity levels are decreased, inspiratory muscle endurance and QF muscle strength are preserved in patients with KS and PCD without KS. Kartagener's syndrome further impairs pulmonary and extrapulmonary outcomes; the reasons should be investigated, and the necessity of rehabilitation approaches that will prevent deterioration come to the fore. Background: Individuals with type 2 diabetes are at risk of delaying or not performing diabetes health promotion self‐care behaviours because of their social or self‐stigmatization. Aim: The study aimed to reveal the effect of stigmatization on diabetes health promotion self‐care behaviours and predictors of stigma and diabetes health promotion self‐care behaviours in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Methods: This cross‐sectional study included 235 individuals with type 2 diabetes. The Diabetes Stigma Assessment Scale (DSAS) and Diabetes Health Promotion Self‐Care Scale (DHPSCS) were used for data collection. Results: There was a significant, negative correlation between the DSAS and DHPSCS scores. High mean scores on the DSAS and its subscales treated differently, blame/judgement and self‐stigma were predictors of a negative effect on diabetes self‐care behaviours. Poor health status, alcohol intake and diabetes complications are predictive of stigma. Insulin use and self‐monitoring blood glucose are predictors of self‐care behaviours. Conclusion: Stigma negatively affects diabetes self‐care behaviours in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Nurses could provide education on improvement of health status, harms of alcohol intake and management of diabetes complications. Counselling for coping with stigma and performing self‐care could be provided. Nurses could organize interventions to raise awareness about diabetes in society. Diabetes health promotion self‐care behaviours are important to ensure diabetes management in individuals with type 2 diabetes.Stigmatization is known to negatively affect individuals with type 2 diabetes. Aim: The study aims to develop a protocol for the combined use of swaddling, facilitated tucking, expressed breast milk and sucrose administration methods in the orogastric tube (OGT) insertion procedure and evaluate its effectiveness. Methods: The randomized controlled trial was conducted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit between 15 February 2022 and 15 September 2022, with 175 preterms. Preterms at 32–34 gestational weeks were randomly allocated to five groups: routine care, swaddling + expressed breast milk, swaddling + sucrose, facilitated tucking + expressed breast milk and facilitated tucking + sucrose groups. The data were collected using the Preterm Descriptive Information Form, the Physiological Measurement Form, the COMFORTneo scale and the Premature Infant Pain Profile (PIPP). Results: The facilitated tucking + expressed breast milk method was found to be more effective than the routine care (pdistress < 0.001; ppain = 0.031) and swaddling + expressed breast milk (pdistress = 0.004; ppain = 0.015) methods in reducing the estimated distress and PIPP pain level of preterms during the procedure. Two minutes after the procedure, the facilitated tucking + expressed breast milk method was more effective than the routine care (p < 0.001), swaddling + expressed breast milk (p = 0.011) and swaddling + sucrose (p = 0.002) methods in reducing the comfort level score. Conclusions: The facilitated tucking + expressed breast milk method is effective in reducing pain and distress and providing comfort during the OGT procedure. Clinical Trials ID: NCT05180058. As there is a paucity of evidence‐based literature on the management of OGT, which is a painful procedure, the management of this pain becomes even more crucial, especially in preterms whose development and complication mechanisms are not completed.There are conflicting results in the literature regarding the effectiveness of expressed breast milk and sucrose, so this study is believed to serve as a research topic for further studies. Aim: This study examines the validity and reliability of a Turkish version of the State–Trait Anxiety Inventory Short Version. Methods: The sample consisted of 306 people between the ages of 18–59 who agreed to participate in the study and met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected with the demographic questionnaire, State–Trait Anxiety Inventory Short Version, State–Trait Anxiety Inventory and Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale. Results: All factor loadings of the State Anxiety Inventory Short Version were between 0.706 and 0.835, and those of the Trait Anxiety Inventory Short Version were between 0.694 and 0.810. The Cronbach alpha coefficients of the State and Trait Anxiety Inventory Short Version were calculated as 0.838 and 0.837, respectively. There was a significant difference between the first‐test and retest values of the State Anxiety Inventory Short Version (p = 0.033) and no difference in the Trait Anxiety Inventory Short Version (p = 0.145). Conclusions: The Turkish‐adapted State–Trait Anxiety Inventory Short Version is a valid and reliable measurement tool to determine the anxiety levels of individuals aged 18–59. Early detection and prevention of anxiety is very important because it causes some mental and physical problems.There are different measurement tools that have been tested for validity and reliability and used to evaluate the presence and severity of anxiety. Purpose: This study aims to examine the effect of online individual motivational interviewing based on the transtheoretical model on pregnant women's smoking cessation behaviour. Material and Method: Sixty‐two pregnant women who did not complete the 16th gestational week and who smoked were randomly assigned to intervention (n = 31) and control (n = 31) groups. While the intervention group was administered model‐based motivational individual counselling interventions, the control group was administered no interventions. Findings The results showed that 58.1% of the pregnant women in the intervention group and 22.6% of the pregnant women in the control group ceased smoking. Conclusion: Online motivational interviewing based on the transtheoretical model was found to be effective in pregnant women's smoking cessation. Aim: This study aimed to assess the effects of web‐based education on blood glucose control, self‐care and quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: A single‐blinded randomized controlled trial was conducted in accordance with the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) checklist at a university hospital in Turkey. The study included 89 patients with type 2 diabetes who were randomly divided into an intervention group (44) and a control group (45). Participants in the intervention group participated in a 3‐month web‐based education programme. Results: The findings indicated that there were no significant differences in sociodemographic characteristics and illness features between the intervention and control groups, and both were homogeneous. A statistically significant decrease of 0.71 was observed in the HbA1c (%) level of the intervention group following web‐based education. Following web‐based education, there was a significant difference in body mass index (kg/m2) and waist circumferences (cm) between the intervention and control groups. The intervention group displayed significantly improved self‐care and quality of life over the 3‐month period (p < 0.05). Conclusion: This study suggests that web‐based education can enhance the self‐care and quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes. Summary statement: What is already known about this topic? Introductions: The aim of this study was to demonstrate the impact of individualized nursing care on patient satisfaction and trust in nurses through structural equation modelling in patients receiving treatment in internal clinics. Methods: The study is a descriptive, exploratory and cross‐sectional research conducted with patients receiving treatment in the internal admission services of an educational research hospital between January and April 2023. According to sample calculations, it was determined that a minimum of 238 patients needed to be included in the study, and 286 patients who met the inclusion criteria and agreed to participate in the research formed the study sample. Data were collected using the 'Patient Identification Form', 'Individualized Care Scale‐Patient Version', 'Newcastle Nursing Care Satisfaction Scale' and the 'Trust in Nurses Scale'. Results: The level of awareness of nursing actions supporting individuality was found to be 2.71 ± 0.99, the level of perceiving individuality was 2.88 ± 0.99, the average level of nursing care satisfaction measured 77.17 ± 12.67 and the average level of trust in nurses was 21.92 ± 3.04. It was determined that as patients' awareness of nursing actions supporting individuality and their perception of individuality in care increased, they remained more satisfied with their care and had greater trust in nurses. Conclusions: Patients who perceived receiving individualized care were found to have higher levels of patient satisfaction and trust in nurses. Additionally, it was observed that as participants' satisfaction with their care increased, their trust in nurses also increased. Summary statement: What is already known about this topic? Aim: This study aims to investigate the effects of the white noise, swaddling and white noise + swaddling methods on pain and physiological parameters associated with orogastric tube insertion procedure. Methods: This was a randomized controlled trial. A total of 132 preterm infants were randomly assigned to four groups as white noise group (n = 33), swaddling group (n = 33), white noise + swaddling group (n = 33) and control group (n = 33). Interventions were initiated 5 min before the orogastric tube insertion procedure and continued during and up to 5 min after the procedure. Results: White noise intervention alone did not have a significant effect on reducing pain associated with orogastric tube insertion (p > 0.05). Compared with the control group, the preterm infants in the swaddling group experienced 0.587 times less pain, and those in the white noise + swaddling group experienced 0.473 times less pain. Conclusions: Findings indicate the swaddling and the combination of white noise + swaddling may be a useful intervention in reducing the invasive pain experienced by preterm infants during and after orogastric tube insertion and in improving the physiological parameters associated with pain. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the Turkish validity and reliability of the Patellofemoral Pain Severity Scale (PSS) in patients with patellofemoral pain (PFP) and to adapt it to Turkish. Materials and methods: A pilot study was conducted with 10 patients. 123 patients underwent PSS test-retest at 24–48 h intervals. Construct validity, correlations of PSS with other scales Timed Up and Go Test (TUG), Stair Climbing and Descending Test (SCD), Anterior Knee Pain Scale (AKPS), Tegner Activity Scale (TAS), Lysholm Knee Scoring Scale (LDSS), Knee Outcome Survey Activities of Daily Living Scale (KOS-ADL) were evaluated. Results: The content validity index value of the scale was 0.95. The overall internal consistency (Cronbach α: 0.88) was high. Item-total correlations of the scale were between 0.51 and 0.7. In the evaluation of the convergent validity of the PSS, it was found that there was a positive correlation between the PSSS and TUG and SCD, and a negative correlation between the PSS, TAS, LDSS and KOS-ADL (p = 0.000). Conclusions: In this study, it was determined that the PSSS scale had good internal consistency, test-retest validity and adequate construct validity when compared with the KOS-ADL, LDSS and AKPS. The aim of the study is to determine body image, sexual adjustment and the factors affecting them in women with breast cancer after surgery. This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with breast cancer patients admitted to a foundation hospital. Data were collected with the Sexual Adjustment and Body Image Scale, evaluated with t-test, MWU, Kruskall Wallis and correlation analysis. Sexual Adjustment Body Image scale subdimension scores of the patients were 10.81±2.32 for Prior Body Image, 9.69±2.69 for Postbody Image,7.04±1.73 for Prior Sexual Adjustment,7.4±2.34 for Sexual Importance of Breasts and -4.28±2.63 for Impact on Sexual Functioning. A weak positive correlation was found between the patients' body image scores and their sexual adjustment scores. It was found that having a child significantly affected the Prior and Postbody Image scores. There was a significant difference between Prior Sexual Adjustment scores according to income level. Employment had an effect on the Impact on Sexual Functioning subdimension score and presence of a chronic disease affected the Postbody Image and Prior Sexual Adjustment subdimension scores. The study was conducted to evaluate the sexual quality of life and sexual function in women with grand multiparity. The Personal Information Form, the Sexual Quality of Life Scale (SQOL-F) Female form, and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) were used for data collection. In terms of the FSFI, having a difficult/interventional labor decreased the score by −3.143 units and obesity decreased the score by −2.218 units, while having an income-generating job increased it by 3.677 units. Aim: To determine the professional values of graduates of master's and doctoral programs in nursing and their views on the contribution of postgraduate education to their professional values. Background: In postgraduate education, which is an important catalyst of professional identity development, a professional is expected to specialize in a field, get into more depth professionally, internalize professional values, and reflect and strengthen these values. To shed light on this expectation, more information is needed to assess the impact of postgraduate education on professional values. Methods: A convergent parallel mixed‐methods design was used. Data were collected for the quantitative part of the study for 385 graduates of postgraduate nursing education programs in Turkey who were selected using the snowball sampling method, while the maximum variation sampling method was used to collect data from 12 individuals for the qualitative part of the study. The Nurses Professional Values Scale (NPVS) and a Semi‐Structured Interview Form were used to collect data in October‐December 2022. The quantitative data obtained in the study were analyzed using the SPSS software, and the qualitative data were analyzed using the MAXQDA software. Results: The mean total NPVS score of the participants was 130.32 ± 21.34 (possible range: 31–155). Among all dimensions, the highest mean score of the participants was in the caring dimension, followed by professionalism and activism. There were significant differences in the NPVS total and subscale scores of the participants based on their views on the contributions of age, institution where they worked, marital status, position at work, and postgraduate education to the acquisition of professional values. In the qualitative dimension of the study, two main themes were identified. One of these themes was the theme of professional values in postgraduate nursing education that covered the categories of professional values gained through postgraduate education, professional values that a nurse who has completed postgraduate education should have, and professional values in postgraduate nursing education. The second theme was the theme named recommendations for providing nurses with professional values through postgraduate education. The integration of data from both components indicated that the qualitative interviews enriched the quantitative findings. Conclusion: It was concluded that postgraduate nursing education programs contribute greatly to the professional values of graduates and strengthen their professional values. Implications for nursing and health policy: For the future of nursing, increasing professional strengths and visibility is significantly associated with professional values. This situation requires nurses with strong professional values. Graduate education programs in nursing should be developed in this direction and focus on development of professional values. Aims: This study aimed to determine the peak hours of sleepiness and the factors affecting the sleepiness levels of nurses. Background: Sleepiness is commonly seen in individuals working night shifts. However, in case of nurses, this sleepiness can be a major threat to patient and staff safety. Method: This was a prospective cross‐sectional study. Data were collected between July and September 2023, and a stratified sampling method was used according to the departments in which the nurses worked. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form and Visual Analog Scale. Nurses reported their sleepiness levels at the beginning of each hour between midnight and 8:00 am. EQUATOR checklist: The study adhered to the STROBE checklist for reporting. Results: The mean sleepiness levels of emergency department nurses, intensive care nurses, internal or surgical clinic nurses, and all nurses were 59.75 ± 15.50, 43.53 ± 20.49, 44.67 ± 18.88, and 49.15 ± 19.67, respectively. The highest sleepiness level of the nurses was at 05:00 am. A significant correlation was found between the variables of age, gender, marital status, sleep quality, number of patients cared, working style and satisfaction with working in the department, and sleepiness level (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Nurses working night shifts experience sleepiness (highest at 5:00 am). In addition, the sleepiness levels of nurses are affected by some personal and clinical factors. Implications for nursing and nursing policy: Based on the results, there is a need for necessary policies regarding nurses' working hours and working conditions. To protect patient and employee safety, necessary strategies should be devised regarding the hours when nurses experience the highest sleepiness and the factors affecting sleepiness levels. Background: The sleep quality of nurses affects both their health and standard of nursing care. Working conditions, depression, and coping potential can also lead to sleep problems. Introduction: Sleep plays a crucial role in overall health at every stage of life. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of sleep quality, depression, and coping mechanisms on the performance of nurses, whose sleep quality is strongly affected due to shift‐based work. Methods: The sample of this descriptive correlational study consisted of 133 healthcare workers. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Coping Response Inventory (CRI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) and evaluated using the t test, Mann–Whitney U test, one‐way ANOVA, Enter method, and linear regression. Findings: One in three nurses reported having poor‐quality sleep, and one in two nurses said they felt sleepy during the day. With declining sleep quality, the nurses' ability to cope with stress diminished, and their degree of depression increased. Discussion: The nurses' financial situation and level of depression were key factors that influenced their quality of sleep and capacity to handle stress. To improve nurses' sleep, the shift pattern needs to change. Conclusion: To increase the quantity of sleep and enhance mental health, changes should be made to the shift schedules of nurses to allow for appropriate rest and reduce daytime sleepiness. Aim: To determine whether nurses' self‐efficacy affected envy levels and to develop the necessary strategies. Background: Envy is a widespread global phenomenon. Envy can harm the individual, the work environment, and nursing care. However, the relationships between self‐efficacy and envy have not been adequately explored in the nursing context. Methods: This study was conducted as a cross‐sectional descriptive study. The study sample consisted of 361 nurses working in a university hospital in a province of Türkiye. The research model was analyzed using structural equation modeling. The participants were selected using convenience sampling. This study was reported using the STROBE checklist for cross‐sectional studies. Results: Nurses' educational status affected their self‐efficacy. No other personal characteristics influenced self‐efficacy and envy. There was a positive relationship between malicious and benign envy. As nurses' self‐efficacy increased, malicious envy decreased and benign envy increased. Conclusions: The results of this study showed that nurses' education level affected self‐efficacy, and self‐efficacy level affected envy, and malicious envy could be reduced by improving nurses' self‐efficacy. Implications for nursing and health policy: Nursing managers and policymakers should support nursing education at the minimum undergraduate level, encourage nurses to continue their professional education to improve their self‐efficacy, and provide training to increase their self‐efficacy. Aim: To present the characteristics of drug hypersensitivity reactions (DHRs) among taxane recipients with non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC), and to describe the results of rapid drug desensitization (RDD). Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study included 45 patients who were treated with taxane for NSCLC and were found to be hypersensitive to taxane. All patients were administered the standard 3-bag, 12-step RDD protocol following the development of DHR. RDD success was evaluated separately for each cycle, and successful RDD was defined as the completion of the cycle with application of 12 steps of the desensitization protocol and the absence of early and/or late reactions afterwards. Results: Among 45 patients hypersensitive to taxane 43 (95.6%) successfully received taxane cycles with desensitization. Failed RDD occurred in only 2 (4.4%) patients. The total number of desensitization cycles was 183, of which 181 (98.9%) were successful. The mean age of patients with successful desensitization was 59.42 ± 10.48 years and 37 (86.0%) of them were male. Conclusion: RDD is a reliable procedure that enables effective administration and completion of first-line taxane treatments in taxane-sensitive patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, we aimed to examine the impacts of COVID-19 vaccines on mental health and relationships between psychological factors and vaccine acceptance in Turkey during the early pandemic period. The study included 1042 adults (70.9% females) with a mean age of 29.55 (SD = 10.29). The results showed that vaccinated participants had lower levels of COVID-19-induced anxiety and depression, and higher levels of life satisfaction compared to those without the vaccine. Furthermore, we found that COVID-19-induced anxiety and protective behaviours towards COVID-19 significantly increased the probability of vaccine acceptance, while depression significantly decreased it. Accordingly, governments should consider the mental health consequences of vaccination, as well as vaccine acceptance and refusal. In this study, we examined the mediating role of self-compassion in the relationship between insight and altruism and flourishing among mental health professional candidates. We adopted a cross-sectional atemporal design to examine how mental health professional candidates' insight and altruism affect their flourishing via self-compassion. The model was tested using structural equation modeling (SEM). Four hundred one participants (Male = 76, Female = 324; Mage = 20.5, SD = 1.8) took part in the study via a web-based survey and completed the Psychological Well-Being Scale, Altruism Scale, Self-compassion Scale, and Insight Scale. The study results showed that insight, altruism, and self-compassion were meaningful psychological dynamics supporting flourishing. The results revealed that self-compassion played a mediating role in the effect of insight on flourishing. On the other hand, the results showed that self-compassion did not mediate the effect of altruism on flourishing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Perampanel (PER), a noncompetitive a-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid receptor antagonist, has been approved as adjunctive therapy for focal and generalized epilepsy. Limited information is available regarding the measurable impact of anti-seizure medications (ASM). In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of PER on electroencephalography (EEG) background activity and interictal epileptic discharge. Methods: This study included all patients with a clinical diagnosis of epilepsy who underwent routine EEG before and after PER treatment between 2018 and 2023. EEG findings were examined according to their background activity and clinical features such as risk factors of epilepsy, the occurrence of sleep-related seizures, sleep disorders, intellectual disability, abnormality of magnetic resonance imaging and EEG, multifocal features on EEG, the duration between EEG and initiation of PER treatment, frequency of seizures before and after PER treatment (seizure freedom or >50% reduction in seizures), previous epilepsy surgery, the number of current and previous ASM, and dosage of PER. Results: In a total of 11 patients, epilepsy type was focal in 8 (73%), all of the patients were on polytherapy, and 4 of them had undergone epilepsy surgery. PER treatment resulted in seizure freedom in 36% of patients and a >50% decrease in seizures in 55% of patients. There was no statistically significant relationship between background activity, phase reversal, and equipotential in EEG before and after PER treatment. In addition, pre- and posttreatment responses to activation procedures and disruption in sleep structure did not differ significantly. The relationship between seizure freedom and phase reversal decrease after PER treatment was statistically significant. The relationship between a >50% decrease in the frequency of seizures and epileptic discharges also reached statistical significance. Conclusion: To summarize, seizure freedom following PER treatment appears to be associated with reduced epileptic discharge, and EEG monitoring might help determine prognosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The aim of the study is to examine what kind of changes the operation has brought about in the social and psychological life of women. Methods: The study was a hermeneutic-phenomenological research conducted using qualitative research methods. It took place between May and July 2023 at a university hospital located in Istanbul, Turkey. Following ethical approval, the study included a total of 24 women who had undergone a 'total abdominal hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.' These participants were selected using a combination of maximum diversity sampling and random sampling methods. Data collection was carried out using a semi-structured interview form. The interviews were conducted using face-to-face interview techniques and in-depth interview methods. Qualitative data analysis involved using the coding paradigm of Grounded Theory and Straus and Corbin's coding framework. For the analysis of quantitative data, SPSS version 28.0 was employed, while qualitative data were analyzed using MaxQDA Analytics Pro 2022. Results: The study found that the participants had a mean age of 47 ± 7.53, and the majority, 66.7%, had not reached menopause before the operation. The qualitative analysis of the semi-structured interviews revealed five main themes, which were identified as follows: 'hysterectomy experiences', 'the impact of hysterectomy on sexual life', 'the significance attributed to the uterus', 'the significance attributed to femininity', and 'self-efficacy after hysterectomy'. Conclusions: The study revealed that women experienced changes in self-perception, body image, a sense of organ loss, and developed negative attitudes towards menopause following a hysterectomy. Additionally, there was a noticeable connection between the meanings attributed to the uterus and femininity, which was often influenced by cultural and social factors. In light of these findings, it is recommended that women receive counseling from healthcare professionals before undergoing a hysterectomy. Background: Preterm newborns face many health problems due to their incomplete intrauterine development and the immaturity of their systems. One of these problems concerns nutrition. This study aimed to determine the effect of online kangaroo care (KC) training provided post‐discharge on breastfeeding self‐efficacy in mothers with preterm infants. Methods: This research was conducted as an experimental study with a randomised control group. Two groups were formed: kangaroo care and control. The sample of the study consisted of 68 mothers of preterm infants. The mothers in the KC group were given online KC training after discharge from the hospital. The mothers were asked to perform KC regularly, at least once a day, for 20 min, 7 days a week. The Breastfeeding Self‐Efficacy Scale was administered to the mothers before and after training. Results: The results of the study revealed that the difference between the pre‐test and post‐test breastfeeding self‐efficacy scores was statistically significantly higher among the mothers who received online KC training compared with the controls (p < 0.001). Conclusion: According to the results of our research carried out in this context, the mothers who received online KC training had increased breastfeeding self‐efficacy compared to those in the control group. The aim of this experimental research is to assess the impact of a mindfulness‐based empowerment program applied to women who have experienced violence on their levels of self‐compassion, self‐esteem and coping with stress. The study was a randomised controlled trial with a control group. Participants were randomly assigned to the experimental group (EG, n1 = 27) and the control group (CG, n2 = 26) from women who had experienced violence. Descriptive statistical methods and t‐tests for dependent and independent groups were employed in data analysis. After the mindfulness‐based empowerment program, the intervention group exhibited a statistically significant high effect size in post‐intervention measurements compared to the control group for the Self‐Compassion Scale, Coopersmith Self‐Esteem Inventory and Coping Styles Scale total and subscale mean scores (p < 0.001). The mindfulness‐based empowerment program has been found to enhance self‐compassion, self‐esteem and coping levels in women who have experienced violence. Therefore, it is recommended to promote the widespread adoption of mindfulness‐based interventions for individuals who have undergone trauma, such as violence, to facilitate their re‐empowerment and functional recovery. Background: The use of computer‐assisted reading comprehension is of critical importance in the context of promoting effective and engaging literacy education in the digital age. It provides students with the opportunity to work at their own pace and convenience, thereby facilitating self‐directed learning and accommodating various learning preferences and schedules. Objectives: The objective of the study was to investigate the impact of computer‐assisted and direct strategy teaching on reading comprehension, reading comprehension self‐efficacy and reading comprehension metacognitive awareness. An experimental application based on the SQ4R strategy was conducted in the direct strategy teaching (DST) and computer‐assisted strategy teaching (CAST) programmes. In the DST group, the implementation of the SQ4R strategy was conducted through direct strategy teaching, whereas in the CAST group, the same activities were carried out with the assistance of computer‐based resources. The principal objective of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of computer‐assisted strategy instruction. Methods: This study employed a combined sequential descriptive design, integrating qualitative and quantitative research models. The study was conducted with 61 fourth‐grade students, enrolled in three classrooms of a public school situated in the central district of Kastamonu, Turkey, which is characterised by a moderate socioeconomic level. The quantitative component of the study was designed as a pre‐test–post‐test control group experimental study. The qualitative component of the study comprised focus group interviews and observation. Two experimental groups and one control group were established in the course of this study. In the quantitative dimension of the combined sequential descriptive model, the Reading Comprehension Test, Metacognitive Reading Comprehension Scale, and Reading Comprehension Self‐Efficacy Scale were employed as data collection instruments. In order to collect data in the qualitative dimension, semi‐structured interview and observation forms were employed. Furthermore, the researcher's diaries, maintained throughout the research process, were employed as a data source. The quantitative data were analysed using the following techniques: arithmetic mean, frequency, percentage, standard deviation, ANOVA and covariance analysis (ANCOVA). A descriptive analysis was employed for the evaluation of the qualitative data. Results and Conclusions: Upon examination of the post‐test scores of the CAST, DST and control group students in the Reading Comprehension Test, it was observed that the CAST group exhibited the highest average. A statistically significant difference was also identified between the CAST group and the control group. Nevertheless, no statistically significant difference was identified between the DST group and the control group. Nevertheless, an examination of the mean scores reveals that the DST group exhibited considerably higher Reading Comprehension Test scores. Background: Digital storytelling is a teaching tool that can help nursing students master the curriculum and improve their skills. This study investigated the effect of digital storytelling on nursing students' knowledge levels and compliance with isolation precautions. Methodology: A pretest‐posttest open‐label randomized controlled trial. This study was conducted in the nursing department of the faculty of health sciences of a university in Türkiye. The sample consisted of 109 fourth‐year nursing students divided into experimental (n = 66) and control (n = 43) groups. Data were collected using a Demographic Characteristics Questionnaire (DCQ), the Isolation Knowledge Test (IKT), the Questionnaire of Students' Opinions on Digital Storytelling (QSODS) and the Scale of Compliance with Isolation Precautions (SCIP). The experimental group participated a digital storytelling activity, whilst the control group received an education based on the curriculum. The data were analysed using the Mann–Whitney U test, the Wilcoxon test, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and the Spearman correlation test. Results and Conclusions: The experimental group had significantly higher posttest IKT and SCIP scores than the control group (p < 0.05). Both groups had lower IKT and SCIP scores 2 months after the experiment. However, the change was much smaller in the experimental group. Digital storytelling helped the experimental group participants learn about isolation precautions and how to comply with them. Digital storytelling also promotes learning retention. In conclusion, digital tools are effective in distance learning. Despite this prominence, gender disparities in adolescent video gaming remain under‐explored. Objectives: This research aims to determine the frequency classes of video game playing based on gender, analyse the variables (age of first digital device/internet use, weekday/weekend internet frequency in and out of school, economic, social, and cultural status) that might influence assignment to these classes, and reveal the differences in PISA scores among these classes. Methods: Our study utilises multiple group latent class analysis and multinomial logistic regression to investigate the video gaming frequencies of 6890 Turkish students (49.1% female, 50.9% male) from the PISA‐2018 exam. A three‐step multiple logistic regression was employed to identify the effect of the variables on assignment probabilities. Also, the multivariate Delta method tested mean differences between classes for PISA scores. Results and Conclusions: This study classifies Turkish students from PISA 2018 into four video gaming preference frequency classes (frequent, regular, casual, and non‐video game players) based on gender. Our study reveals that frequent male gamers begin using digital devices and the internet earlier than their female counterparts, spending more time gaming outside school. Notably, the frequency of video game play, which varies by gender, was found to have a significant effect on academic achievement. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the amount of ultra‐processed food (UPF) in the diet and low‐grade inflammation in children. This cross‐sectional study was conducted in 50 healthy children recruited from children attending the Social Paediatrics Outpatient Clinic for follow‐up of normal developmental stages. Low‐grade inflammation was calculated by INFLA‐score, dietary intake by three 24‐h dietary recalls and dietary content analyses by BeBiS™ software. The mean age of the 50 children included in our study was 10.18 ± 3.98 years (5–17 years). UPF accounted for 24.5% of the total daily energy intake of children. In children with higher inflammation scores (INFLA‐score ≥ 2), the amount in grams of UPF and the percentage of total energy from UPF were found to be significantly higher (p = 0.030 and p = 0.015, respectively). A weak positive correlation was found between the INFLA‐score and the percentage of daily dietary energy intake coming from UPFs (r = 0.350, p < 0.01), the average daily energy intake from UPFs (r = 0.313, p < 0.05), and the average daily amount of UPF consumed (r = 0.260, p < 0.05). The linear regression model revealed that every one‐unit increase (1%) in the percentage of total daily energy intake coming from UPF caused an increase in β = 0.154‐unit in the INFLA‐score. It was found that obesity was not a mediator in the association between the percentages of total energy intake from UPF on the INFLA‐score, instead, the energy intake from UPF had a significant direct association with the INFLA‐score. The average amount of UPF consumed daily showed an increasing pattern in parallel with inflammation‐score quartile classes (Q1 to Q4) with 33.3% in Q1, 38.5% in Q2, 53.8% in Q3 and 66.7% in Q4 (p = 0.049). Adherence to the Mediterranean diet has decreased among university students in many countries. Cooking skills (CS) and food skills (FS) have been suggested as potential targets for reversing this decline. This study aims to determine CS and FS and to examine their relationship with adherence to the Mediterranean diet in young adults attending university in Türkiye. This cross‐sectional study was conducted between March 2022 and April 2022 at Ondokuz Mayıs University in Samsun, Türkiye, and included 859 university students (56.1% women; mean age 22.57 ± 2.75 years). Sociodemographic characteristics were collected. The CS and FS measure and the Mediterranean Diet Adherence Screener (MEDAS) were administered. The mean MEDAS, CS and FS scores were 4.77 ± 1.97, 59.10 ± 18.17 and 77.81 ± 22.27, respectively. Those with higher MEDAS scores (quartile three and quartile four‐Q3 and Q4) had significantly higher CS scores than those with lower scores (Q1 and Q2), while those in the lowest quartile (Q1) had lower FS scores than all other quartiles (p < 0.001). Total scores of CS and FS positively, although weakly, correlated with MEDAS (r = 0.227 and r = 0.296; p < 0.001). Two separate models for CS and FS were analysed; along with access to kitchen facilities, CS and FS contributed the most variability, accounting for 8.9% and 11.8% of the variance in MEDAS, respectively (p < 0.001). This research indicates that higher CS and FS in university students are associated with higher adherence to the Mediterranean diet. Rationale: Misinformation can lead to adverse outcomes on the health beliefs and behaviors of individuals. Therefore, health literacy skills are needed as a central competency to recognize the trustfulness of health‐related knowledge in any resources. To ensure this, a time‐efficient, skill‐oriented psychometric tools are needed to measure the comprehensive general health literacy level of communities. Aims and Objectives: This research was conducted to evaluate the psychometric properties of the 12‐item Health Literacy Survey‐Europe (HLS19‐Q12) regarding Turkish culture. Method: A methodological design was adopted. The population consisted of adult individuals registered to two family health centers in Ankara. The sample was determined based on 5–10 times the number of scale items rule (ntotal = 192). A questionnaire and Health Literacy Survey‐Europe‐Q12 were used to collect data. Language, content and construct validities and internal consistency reliability tests were performed through IBM‐SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 24.0 programs. The content validity was determined via the Davis technique. The construct validity was examined by exploratory (EFA) (n1 = 120) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) (n2 = 72). Internal consistency was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Time invariance was evaluated by test‐retest method (nretest = 32) 4 weeks later. Results: The mean age was 30.17 ± 10.37 (min. 18‐max. 61). The Kaiser‐Meyer Olkin test result was 0.898, and the Bartlett's Test of Sphericity result was 604.889 (p < 0.001). The model‐fit indices showed good fit. The difference between the first and the second measurements was statistically insignificant (t = −1.659, p = 0.107). The Cronbach's alpha was 0.88. Conclusions: The HLS19‐Q12‐TR was a valid and reliable measurement tool in determining the health literacy level of the Turkish adult population. This study aimed to investigated the impact of Kahoot, ChatGPT, and traditional teaching methods on nursing students' sexual health knowledge and attitudes. This quasi-experimental study was conducted using an online survey of 93 nursing students. Data collection instruments were implemented in three stages: pre-test, post-test, and follow-up test, measuring students' levels of sexual health knowledge and attitudes. The training was conducted over a total of four hours, consisting of two hours per week for each group. Data were collected through tests prepared via Google Forms. After the training, it was observed that students in all three groups found the educational program beneficial and effective. In the follow-up test, students reported an increase in their confidence in managing sexual health-related issues. Statistical analyses indicated that the training delivered through Kahoot and ChatGPT was more effective in improving sexual health knowledge levels. At the same time, traditional education was more effective in improving sexual health attitudes by the end of the first month. The analyses also revealed that the change in students' sexual health knowledge levels did not significantly differ among different educational methods (Kahoot, ChatGPT, and traditional education). Kahoot and ChatGPT educational technologies were effective in improving nursing students' sexual health knowledge levels in repeated measurements. This study was conducted with the aim of meeting the sexual health needs specific to the development of positive sexual health attitudes that are ignored in adolescents with physical disabilities. In this study, a randomized experimental design was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the online sexual health psychoeducation program in adolescents with physical disabilities. The population of the study consisted of adolescents aged 12–15 who are members of The Spinal Cord Paralytics Association of Turkey (N:600). The sample size of the research was determined as 52 by power analysis and the analyzes were completed with 55 adolescents. When the effect of the online sexual health psychoeducation program given to adolescents with physical disabilities on sexual attitudes was examined, it was determined that the post-test and 3-month follow-up scores of the intervention group were higher than the pre-test scores. In other words, the adolescents with physical disabilities who participated in the sexual health education program had more positive attitudes toward sexuality, sexual behaviors, and sexually transmitted diseases than those who did not participate in the program, and these effects were sustained over three months. Despite the improvements in the rights of LGBTIQ+ groups, gay men continue to confront prejudice and discrimination in various areas of life, whose effects harm their well-being. Turkey is one of the countries where prejudice and discrimination are high and pervasive. This study tests the possible mediating role of ingroup identification (i.e. satisfaction, solidarity, salience, importance, individual self-stereotyping, ingroup homogeneity), as proposed by the rejection-identification model (RIM), in the negative relationship between perceived discrimination and well-being in a sample of 496 Turkish gay men. Results indicated that identity salience mediated the links from perceived personal discrimination to negative affect and psychological well-being, but the mediating effects were contrary to predictions of the RIM. As for the direct effects, perceived personal discrimination predicted all four outcomes of well-being (i.e. psychological well-being, positive affect, negative affect, and life satisfaction), whereas perceived group discrimination only predicted negative affect. Aim: The aim of this study was to make the Turkish cultural adaptation of the the Stroke Activity Scale (SAS). Method: This study was designed as a methodological research. The psychometric properties of the SAS scale were evaluated by validity and reliability analyses. Results: The average age of 84 stroke patients (mean ± SD) was 59.52 ± 14.03 years. Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (0.816) and Bartlett's Test of Sphericity (χ2 = 288.968, df = 10, p < 0.001) showed that the data set can be factored. A one-factor structure was obtained with Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The factor loads of the items obtained with PCA and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were found to be statistically significant. The obtained chi-square statistics (χ2 = 2.227, p = 0.694), normalized chi-square/freedom (χ2/sd) value (0 ≤ 0.557 ≤ 2) and other goodness of fit indices showed good compliance. The positive highly significant correlation (r = 0.846, p < 0.001) between the SAS and Rivermead Mobility Index (RMI) scales confirmed the Concurrent validity. Cronbach's alpha (0.864) value showed high reliability and Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) value (0.983, p < 0.001) showed excellent agreement. Conclusions: In this study, which was conducted for the Turkish adaptation of the SAS scale, the 5-item and 1-factor structure was evaluated as a valid and reliable scale for evaluating the balance abilities of stroke patients living in Turkey. Background: Physical activity decreases after stroke due to various factors and the causes and effects of these factors remain unclear. Objectives: This study aimed todetermine the effects of kinesiophobia, fatigue, and quality of life on physical activity in patients with stroke. Methods: The study included 32 patients (13 females/19 males), all evaluated using the Stroke Rehabilitation Assessment of Movement, Barthel Index, Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale-fatigue, Fatigue Impact Scale and Stroke-Specific Quality of Life Scale. The SenseWear multisensory activity monitor was worn on the arm of the patients for 1 week to evaluate active energy expenditure, step count, and rest periods in relation to physical activity. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to examine the effects of the independent variables kinesiophobia, fatigue, and quality of life on the dependent variables of active energy expenditure, step count, and rest periods. Results: The mean age of the patients was 52.31 ± 14.76 years. According to the multiple regression analysis results, kinesiophobia (p = 0.011) and quality of life (p = 0.009) are significant determinants of active energy expenditure and quality of life (p = 0.001) is a significant determinant of the step count in patients with stroke. Kinesiophobia, fatigue, and quality of life were not determinants of rest periods (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The study results showed that kinesiophobia and quality of life are important determinants of physical activity in patients with stroke. Combined evaluation in the clinic of motor findings and non-motor factors, which are often ignored, and the application of target-oriented approaches to these problems will make a significant contribution to the success of stroke rehabilitation. Objective: To investigate the level of knowledge, and attitude of society toward substance use disorder (SUD). Method: In this cross-sectional study, a questionnaire form created by the researchers was completed by individuals over the age of 18 between June and July 2022. A total of 1365 individuals (684 women, 681 men) participated in the study. Results: The mean age of the participants was 36.22 ± 10.47 years (min:18, max:75). A total of 19.2% did not consider addiction a medical disease, 37.4% thought that addiction was a moral failing, and 37.4% believed that addiction was a voluntary decision. 28.3% thought that only people with weak willpower will become addicted, 42.1% thought that trying substances would not lead to addiction, and 38.4% thought that substances can be quit without medical treatment. A total of 52.7% reported that they were afraid of people with addictions, 22.9% stated that they would not employ SUD patients in their workplace even if they had been treated. Only 36.8% of the participants had received any addiction-related training in their lifetime. Conclusion: Our findings display that the level of knowledge about addiction in society in Turkey is low, and there is substantial stigmatization and negative views on people with addictions. Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of psychological symptoms of refugee adolescents on their substance use proclivity. Methods: The study was conducted as descriptive cross-sectional research. The study was conducted with refugee adolescents living in the southeast Anatolian region of Turkey. The Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) and Substance Use Proclivity Scale were used to determine adolescents' mental symptoms and substance use tendencies. Linear regression model and structural equation modeling were preferred in the analysis of the research. Results: It was determined that adolescents' experienced psychological symptoms that were directly related to factors such as loss of relatives and length of stay in Turkey. In the model created for adolescents' substance use tendencies, it was determined that psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression, negative self-image and hostility were effective at a rate of 49.4%. Conclusions: It was found that refugee adolescents experienced intense mental symptoms despite the fact that many years have passed after war and migration. It was determined that the losses they experienced and smoking had most effect on these mental symptoms. This study aims to demonstrate the effect of a transtheoretical model (TTM)-based physical activity program on the exercise behavior of adolescents using WhatsApp. The study was conducted with high school students (N = 185) in a pre-/posttest, quasi-experimental design. TTM-based text messages were sent to the intervention group (n = 95) over WhatsApp every day for 8 weeks. The intervention group demonstrated more statistically significant progression in the exercising stages of change compared to the control group (n = 90) (χ2 = 20.10; p =.00). It was also found that this group had a higher exercising self-efficacy score (t = 2.647; p =.009) and a higher physical activity total metabolic equivalent of task score (Z = −3.521; p =.000). There was no significant difference in BMI and perception of pros and cons (p >.05). The program was found to be effective in terms of recording progress in the exercising stages of change, increasing exercising self-efficacy, and maintaining a physical activity program. Background: Admission of a preterm infant to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is highly stressful for parents. NICU nurses play a crucial role in providing support, positively impacting health and aiding effective stress management during this challenging period. This study assesses stress and nurse-parent support for parents with preterm infants in the NICU, exploring connections between stress, support, and various parental and infant variables. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted between January and July 2019 on a total of 150 parents (75 mothers and 75 fathers) with preterm infants in a private hospital's NICU in Ankara, Turkey. Data were collected using the Parent and Infant Information Form, Parental Stressor Scale: NICU (PSS: NICU), and Nurse-Parent Support Tool (NPST). Results: There was no significant correlation between PSS: NICU and NPST scores (p > 0.05). However, a significant difference was observed in the overall NPST score (p = 0.036) and its emotional support subscale (p = 0.013). Mothers' PSS: NICU was influenced by infant information (p = 0.027) and marital duration ((p = 0.002), while fathers' was influenced by number of children (p = 0.040) and infant care participation (p = 0.001). NPST was affected by number of children (p = 0.004) and infant respiratory status (p = 0.011) for mothers and number of children for fathers (p = 0.038). Since parents require informational, emotional, and care-related support, nurses should continuously enhance their professional and communication skills to establish effective communication with parents and provide targeted support. Conclusion: This study found mothers received greater nurse support than fathers. Mothers with one child had higher nurse support, while mechanical ventilation for mothers and having more than one child for fathers were linked to reduced support. Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, negative working conditions in the nursing profession have worsened, and nurses have experienced various challenges that have increased their intention to leave work. Findings on the role of nurse performance under such conditions are limited. Aims: This study aimed to investigate the role of performance in the effect of the challenges experienced by nurses during the pandemic on their intention to leave work. Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted between July 2022 and August 2023 in Turkey using an online survey. A total of 462 nurses participated in the study, which employed the non-probability random and snowball sampling methods. Results: The mediating factors in the effect of the challenges experienced by nurses during the pandemic on their intention to leave work were task performance (β = 0.07), contextual performance (β = 0.05), and counterproductive work behavior (β = 0.12), respectively. Conclusions: This study determined that task performance, contextual performance, and counterproductive work behavior played an important role in the effect of the challenges experienced by nurses during the pandemic on their intention to leave work. Background: In recent years, limited studies have evaluated the development of cultural awareness, sensitivity, skills, communication and competence among nursing students using different models and curricula. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a new internationally developed curriculum for transcultural nursing education. Methods: This mixed methods study was conducted on nursing students (n = 83) who attended a transcultural nursing course from 2021 to 2022 during the fall semester. A paired samples test was used to compare total scores, and the related-samples Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to compare subscale scores. Results: The vast majority (94.0%) of the participants mentioned Islam as their religion. Turkish was the mother tongue of 91.6% of them, while 10.8% were able to speak English and 6.0% were able to speak Kurdish fluently. The mean score for the achievement of cultural competence subdimension posttest was significantly greater (p < 0.001). Posttest mean scores for challenges and barriers in providing culturally competent care subdimensions were significantly lower (p = 0.003). The mean score on the culturally sensitive communication subdimension pretest was 21.00 ± 4.76, and the mean score on the posttest increased to 23.02 ± 6.05, which was a statistically significantly greater difference (p = 0.024). According to the qualitative results of our study, five main themes were analyzed: transcultural nursing as an opportunity, transcultural nursing as a didactic process, transcultural nursing as a professional field, transcultural care as a safe environment, and transcultural care as an obligation. Conclusions: In this study, after a semester of continuing education, nursing students developed respect for cultural diversity, cultural competence, and culturally sensitive communication. Background: The purpose of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the Nursing Activities Score. Methods: To validate the Turkish version of the Nursing Activities Score, a sample comprising 30 adult intensive care patients and 30 nurses was employed. After a pilot study, the internal consistency, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, was found to be p = 0.718. Following the significant internal consistency obtained in the pilot study, the correlation between Nursing Activities Score internal consistency and Critical Nursing Situation Index scores was examined in 150 adult intensive care patients and 150 nurses. Results: The assessment of inter-rater reliability showed a high level of agreement (99%) and an average Kappa index of 0.598 (p < 0.001). Concurrent validity was demonstrated through a statistically significant correlation between Nursing Activities Score and the Critical Nursing Situation Index (r = 0.71, p < 0.001) and multivariate regression analysis (R2 = 83%, p < 0.001). The validity is supported by the statistically significant relationship between Nursing Activities Score and Critical Nursing Situation Index. Conclusion: These results demonstrate that Nursing Activities Score is a valid and reliable tool for measuring nursing workload in Turkish intensive care units. Background: While there is a list of monosyllabic words available for use in speaking tests in our country, the list of sentences is limited. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the mobile application we developed by creating a list of 4-word sentences that are frequently encountered in daily life, well-known, and spectrally balanced, to be used in speech tests in children aged 8–12 with normal hearing. A total of 50 participants, 25 girls (mean age 9.56 ± 1.56) and 25 boys (mean age 10.60 ± 1.55) with normal hearing, aged 8–12, were included in the study. Familiarity was evaluated by listening to a list of 200 sentences consisting of 4-word sentences to 70 children in 7 geographical regions of Turkey, and the sentences that 80% of the children did not understand were excluded. A list of 60 balanced sentences was determined by performing spectral and coherence analysis of the sentences. The recording of each sentence at 80 dB, 60 dB, and 40 dB intensity levels, respectively, increased in 5 dB steps between the − 10/ + 10 signal-to-noise ratio value and was combined separately with 3 different environmental noises (classroom, shopping mall, amusement park) and uploaded to the developed mobile application. Results: For all participants, speech comprehension scores at 80 dB, 60 dB, and 40 dB sound intensity were lowest in the amusement park environment. Speech comprehension scores are lowest in noise levels of 40 dB in amusement park and shopping mall environments. Speech comprehension scores are lowest in noise levels of 60 dB in the classroom environment. There is a statistically significant difference between ambient noises (p < 0.05). When male and female participants are compared, it is seen that male participants' comprehension scores in noise in the shopping mall environment are higher than female participants. There is a statistically significant difference between genders (p < 0.05). Conclusion: When the speech in noise tests developed in the literature are examined, even though the word lists are equalized with the phonemic equalization method, they do not reflect the reality of daily life. The Turkish Mobile Speech Discrimination in Real Noise 4-Word Sentence Test that we have developed will contribute to the literature. Objective: In an exam-based education system, it is of utmost importance to identify levels of test anxiety and educational stress that directly affect success, and to reduce anxiety. A study was conducted to examine the effects of laughter yoga on test anxiety and educational stress in 8th grade students in Turkey. Methods: A cluster sampling, parallel-group randomized controlled trial with pre-test/post-test design studied 64 students (32 in the intervention group and 32 in the control group). The intervention group received laughter yoga sessions twice a week for 6 weeks. The control group received no intervention. Data were collected by a demographic questionnaire, the Westside Test Anxiety Scale, and the Educational Stress Scale. Results: After laughter yoga, the intervention group showed a significant decrease in test anxiety (d = 0.859; p < 0.005) and educational stress scores (d = 0.52875; p < 0.001) compared to the control group. Conclusion: Laughter yoga was associated with decreased test anxiety and educational stress.
