Online learning has been conducted in recent years, especially during crises. There have been some studies to increase its effectiveness. Acceptance of online learning is important and affects learners' comfort and their future use. The purpose of this study was to adopt the acceptance of online learning scale into Turkish culture which was developed to determine students' acceptance of online learning in a developing country Survey model was adapted in this study, and data were collected from 384 participants studying in a public university. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was performed to check the validity of the scale and Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated to assess the reliability of the adapted scale. Five-factor structure of the scale was confirmed, and multiple goodness-of-fit indices, X[superscript 2]/sd, CFI, RMSEA, SRMR, GFI, and TLI/NNFI were in the range of acceptance levels in the literature. The calculated Cronbach's Alpha values ranged between 0.81 and 0.94 in the total and sub-factors, which were above the recommended value in the literature. The adapted scale could be used by researchers and educators to detect the acceptance of online learning at different intervals.

The teaching profession is a profession that must be practiced at a professional level as predicted by new education and training technologies and human psychology. It is necessary to look at the competency areas that make the teaching profession different from other professional fields. These competence areas are: 1- It must be top-level and updatable field information. As it is known, humanity has not yet reached the knowledge of the immutable absolute truth of yesterday, today and tomorrow in the name of positive sciences. Knowledge is relative and constantly changing. 2- Teaching profession knowledge: Pedagogical formation knowledge is meant here. 3- Knowledge of general and local culture: The teacher must be a communication expert at a professional level. For this purpose, healthy communication with the student is expected. The tool to be used here is knowledge of general and local culture. Guidance to students depends on this. 4- Teachers must devote themselves to their work and develop a sense of belonging, and they must enjoy and be satisfied with this professional process. Here is this dimension; It is essentially the spirit of amateurism, aspiring to burn in order to enlighten. In this study, teachers' opinions on the current situation regarding the teaching profession were evaluated within the framework of these competencies. For this purpose, this study was designed descriptively; the "Teacher Self-Evaluation Survey" was used as a data collection tool. This survey; in the annex of the MEB Teacher Performance Evaluation and Candidate Teacher Work and Procedures Regulation (Draft) is a "Teacher Self-Evaluation Survey" and was used because it is available for public use. The survey consists of 50 items and options such as 1- Very little, 2- Little, 3- Medium, 4- Good and 5- Very good. The same survey was also used by teachers to evaluate teachers by adapting the expressions and comparisons were made. The data obtained through the survey was evaluated with arithmetic mean, standard deviation and "t" test for independent samples, and generalizations and appropriate comments were made.

This study investigated the role of administrative support in the correlation between teachers' perceptions of organizational support and their levels of leadership. This study adopts a relational screening model. The study population consisted of teachers in elementary, middle, and high schools. The sample consisted of 304 teachers selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using the "Organizational Support Scale," "Administrative Support Scale" and the "Teacher Leadership Scale." The findings indicate significant positive relationships between teachers' perceptions of organizational support, perceptions of administrative support, and their levels of leadership. When examining whether administrative support mediated the impact of organizational support on teacher leadership, significant effects were observed on the paths connecting organizational support, administrative support, and teacher leadership. Specifically, the paths from organizational support to teacher leadership through administrative support were significant, whereas the direct pathway from organizational support to teacher leadership was not, suggesting that administrative support fully mediated this model. Considering these research findings and the existing literature, it is advisable to structure organizational support and administrative practices that foster teacher leadership in both in-school and out-of-school settings by legal regulations.

In this study, the Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching-Elementary Patterns Functions and Algebra-Content Knowledge (MKT-PFA) test, originally developed in English as part of the "Learning Mathematics for Teaching Project" at Michigan University, was adapted into Turkish. The test comprises two equivalent forms, A and B, each translated into Turkish and culturally adapted through consultations with two mathematics education academics and five secondary school math teachers pursuing doctoral studies. A total of 328 preservice teachers at a Turkish public university's elementary school mathematics teaching department were administered form A (14 questions, 29 items) and form B (12 questions, 27 items) at a one-week interval. Psychometric analyses revealed high reliability (KR-20: A=0.712, B=0.735; Lord reliability: A=0.733, B=0.756), and strong correlations (r[subscript pbi]) with the original English forms, indicating suitable adaptation. Item difficulties analyzed using a one-parameter Item Response Theory model showed a normal distribution, affirming the tests' validity for assessing preservice teachers' algebra teaching knowledge in Türkiye.

The activity-based social studies teaching is a learning process which applies activities prepared according to knowledge, skills, values and achievements and makes students actively participate. One of the most important goals of the social studies course is the activity-based teaching process, which is one of the ways to raise effective, productive and participatory citizens. This research aimed to reveal students' thoughts on teaching the value of responsibility in the activity-based social studies teaching process and to determine its effects on gaining the value of responsibility to students based on the observations made in the course. Furthermore, the research was structured in accordance with the qualitative research methodology. Moreover, the study used data diversification to obtain detailed participant information. The fundamental data collection instruments utilized in this research encompassed a semi-structured interview questionnaire, visual study activities involving student products, an observation form, and a personal information survey. Furthermore, descriptive and content analysis techniques were used to analyze the data. According to the research results, in the social studies course, the responsibility value-based activity teaching process prepared for 5th grade students contributed to developing students' responsibilities and positive attitudes and behaviors. Students stated their responsibilities, such as participating in the lesson, fulfilling the task given in the lesson, studying, and speaking by taking the floor.

This study aims to determine the life satisfaction of university students on the basis of gender. Using a quantitative perspective, the study aims to assess the effects of gender on life satisfaction and aims to provide a comprehensive understanding. SMD analysis method was used to evaluate the effect size of life satisfaction based on gender. In this study, 40 studies with appropriate data for the variables were included in the analysis. The total sample consisted of 20063 students, of which 12564 were female and 7499 were male. According to the REM results, there was a statistically significant and small effect size in favor of women (Cohen's d=0.20). There was moderate heterogeneity in terms of overall effect size (Q=117.193, p=0.000; I2 =66.722). The heterogeneity test of the studies was Q=117,193. In addition, it was found to have a heterogeneous structure p=0,000 (p<0.05). It was found to be moderate heterogeneity I2 =66,722. Related methods were used to understand the publication bias. As a result of this study, a statistically significant effect size in terms of gender and a small effect size in favor of women (Cohen's d=0.20) were found. It may be recommended that future research on this subject should include qualitative studies on why life satisfaction levels are relatively low in male students and relatively high in female students.

The main purpose of this research is to comparatively examine the views of social studies teacher candidates in Turkey and the USA towards war and peace, and to reveal the similarities and differences. In parallel with the increasing violence and wars in the world, literacy of peace has become a concept that attracts more and more attention. Each country includes war and peace issues in its curriculum in different ways. Literacy of peace has become one of the basic elements of citizenship education in democratic societies. Social studies is one of the most powerful components of citizenship education. In the social studies course, while trying to raise patriotic individuals by teaching about the wars of the past, they are also trying to raise democratic citizens who have gained peace awareness. The research is a descriptive study in which quantitative and qualitative research methods are used together. As a quantitative data collection tool, The Attitude Inventory Regarding Peace and War developed by Bizumic et al., was used. Moral dilemma stories were used as a qualitative data collection tool. Qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques were applied together to transform the obtained data sets into findings. Working group of the research is 60 teacher candidates in total, 30+30 each studying at state universities in Türkiye and the USA. Descriptive analysis method was used to analyze the data. A comparative analysis of participants' perspectives on war and peace can give us an idea about how war and peace can be included in the teaching process. According to the results of the research, it was seen that the attitudes towards peace of the participants from both countries were high and when compared, the attitudes of the participants from the USA towards peace were higher than the participants from Turkey. The findings of the qualitative analysis also support this conclusion.

This study aims to determine the perceptions of fine arts high school music department students about the concept of "instrument training" through an alternative measurement and evaluation technique "Word Association Test (WAT)". In this study, the survey model, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The study group of the research consisted of 110 students studying at Nevit Kodalli Fine Arts High School Music Department in the 2021-2022 academic year. The data were obtained by applying the "Word Association Test (WAT)". Firstly, WAT was explained for informative purposes during the application. Then, the students were asked to write the first 5 words that they thought were related to the key concept of "instrument training" within 1 minute. Afterwards, they were asked to make a sentence related to these answer words. The obtained answer words were analysed by content analysis technique. As a result of the analysis, the answer words that the students associated with the key concept of "instrument training" were grouped under 9 categories (teaching materials, performance anxiety, motivation for the instrument, social skills, attitude towards the instrument, technical skills, student capacity, education and training). According to the order of these categories, the most frequently associated answer words with instrument education were instrument, etude, excitement, working, cooperation, happiness, note, talent and teacher. Under the category of performance anxiety and motivation related to the instrument, the students showed a negative distribution on the word "tiring". It was observed that the students had a positive cognitive structure in all categories.

STEM education plays a key role in influencing and orienting students' interests towards STEM fields and careers. This influence is multifaceted, involving not only STEM content and experiences but also teachers, schools, and personal factors. The purpose of this study is to explore the factors impacting the academic performance of 951 tenth grade students in STEM subjects (physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and information technologies) who are attending public and private schools in two provinces of Turkey. Using a correlational research model, the study assessed how students' personal characteristics, teacher effectiveness and school characteristics affect achievement in STEM courses. Data were collected using the 'Factors Affecting STEM Achievement Questionnaire (FA-STEM-A)', a 20-item questionnaire divided into three sub-dimensions. Analyses focused on the relationships between student characteristics, teaching quality, school infrastructure and STEM performance. Structural equation modelling revealed that positive student characteristics, especially fondness for STEM subjects and confidence in STEM abilities, moderately increase achievement. In contrast, negative factors attributed to teachers and schools, such as inadequate classroom activities, lack of educator expertise, inadequate technological resources, and large class sizes, hindered student performance. These findings emphasize the important influence of both inherent student qualities and external educational conditions in determining STEM education.

This research aims to analyze the results of studies conducted in Turkey on reasoning skills in mathematics teaching and to reveal what kind of trend there is in this field. Within the scope of this study, databases were searched with the keywords "reasoning"(muhakeme, akil yürütme) and "reasoning skill" (Muhakeme becerisi, akil yürütme becerisi), and the results were examined in accordance with the inclusion criteria regarding mathematics teaching. One hundred sixty-three studies were included. Each of the studies included in the meta-synthesis study was analyzed descriptively according to type, year, method, sample type and size, data collection tools, statistical analysis, learning field, keywords, reasoning type and purpose. In addition, the studies' results were content analyzed and tabulated by coding the differences and similarities between them with a holistic approach. It has been determined that studies on the learning fields in the mathematics curriculum are mostly carried out in the field of learning numbers and operations in the secondary school mathematics curriculum. When evaluated in terms of reasoning types, almost half of the studies were conducted on mathematical reasoning. It has been observed that after mathematical reasoning, the most focus is on proportional reasoning. When the aims of the studies included in the research were examined, it was determined that the most focused ones were "examining the factors affecting reasoning skills", "measurement of reasoning skills" and "the effect of teaching practices on reasoning skills". In the studies examined, it was seen that there were 33 teaching practices whose effects on reasoning skills were examined.

In any field, effective teaching and learning are greatly aided by information and communication technology, or ICT. ICT integration in education has received significant attention in educational system reforms, which emphasized it as an essential component in improving the learning process. Educational organizations have been particularly concerned about how ICT use would affect students' academic achievement (Alhusein, 2021). Since information and communication technology (ICT) is so prevalent in today's digital world, the current study has focused on the connections between ICT and Turkish students' science performance on the PISA 2018 assessment. To assess the impact of ICT use on students' science performance, this study used structural equation modeling (SEM) to analyze PISA 2018 data (Türkiye, n = 6890, 186 schools) while taking the students' socioeconomic status into consideration. Results showed that: (i) ICT use in and outside of the classroom was found to be statistically significantly correlated with science achievement; (ii) there was also a statistically significant correlation between science achievement and students' attitudes toward ICT. This research can increase theoretical understanding of technology, learning, and cultural context as well as actual applications of ICT in science classes that consider the differences between ICT effects.

We know that the socioeconomic structure of the areas around schools affects schools and their educational activities. Considering this fact, in the present study we sought to stress how the socioeconomic structure of the areas of schools where teachers carried out their duties affected the teachers. In the phenomenological study, we aimed to reveal the inequalities faced by the teachers who carried out a duty in a socioeconomically disadvantageous area in the southeast of Turkey. In order to collect data, we conducted face-to-face interviews with the teachers who experienced educational inequalities in their schools. We found that the teachers experienced both physical and educational inequalities, and these inequalities had individual and organizational effects. Due to these effects, the teachers had social and individual expectations. As a consequence, it is possible to state that the teachers had similar job definitions; however, they did not have similar opportunities in terms of the areas where they carried out a duty. We stress the necessity of actualizing fair applications that pay regard to the qualities of areas where teachers carry out a duty.

In the present study, the effects of the body language of physical education, Turkish, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Music and Art teachers, which is one of the most determining dimensions among communication skills on students' attitudes towards the lesson were examined. The study was applied to 371 students, 244 of whom were female and 127 male, in 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades, studying at four different high schools in the Palandöken County of Erzurum City center in the 2018-2019 academic year. The group that was selected as the sampling of the study consisted of these students. It is considered that this study will contribute to the accurate interaction between the teacher and the student with the dimension of communication skills and to the studies to be conducted in this field. As it was understood from this study that high school students responded "I like it a lot" to item 9, "She/he mostly smiles while teaching"; and "I like it" to items 2, 3, 27, 28 and 31. The response "I do not like it at all" did not affect the average score. Among the remaining 29 items, 15 responded as "I am indecisive", and 14 as "I do not like it". When the results of the present study are evaluated, it is seen that the teacher, who manages the teaching and learning experiences and guides the learning of students actively and participative, manages the process much more effectively, not only via communication with the language but also via the communication and interaction of the beyond-the-language communication arguments and body language. At the same time intonation of voice, and translingual communication arguments are also important.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of a twelve-week pilates exercise program on some performance tests and body composition. The research was a quantitative study and experimental research model was used as a model. The study group consisted of 32 female volunteer students aged between 20-23 who were educated at Kirikkale University, Faculty of Sports Sciences, and took pilates lessons. Before starting the exercise program and after finishing the exercise program, the participants' data on anthropometric (body weight, height, body fat ratio and circumference measurements) and performance tests (sit and reach test, vertical jump test, 20 m speed and t-dril test) were collected. The arithmetic means and standard deviations of all data were calculated. The comparison of the measurement values of the participants before and after the exercise program (pre-test and post-test) was made with the paired samples t-test. A statistically significant difference was found between the anthropometric and performance tests (pre-test and post-test) of the participants. Considering the results of the study, it was determined that there were improvements in the physical appearance and physical performance of the individuals with regular pilates exercises, and that pilates exercises had significant effects on both the body composition and muscular endurance of the individuals.

This study examines science, mathematics, and classroom teacher candidates' attitudes towards mistakeinstant feedback. A total of 531 undergraduate students from different universities in Türkiye participated in the study. "Mathematics and science teachers' attitude scale towards mistakes and instant feedback to mistakes" (MST-AS) was used to collect data. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, t-tests, and ANOVA tests. A statistically significant difference between the external and internal attitude dimensions, along with the departments' overall attitude scores, was found. Based on a Tukey's Post Hoc test significant differences were determined between science and mathematics teacher candidates, and between mathematics and classroom teacher candidates in their overall scores, in favour of the science and classroom teacher candidates. The differences among the attitudes of the teacher candidates according to their grade level and achievement was not statistically significant. To better understand the attitudes of teacher candidates, more in-depth or longitudinal studies can be conducted on the variables correlated with high and low attitudes.

This research examined the direct and indirect links of supervisory working alliance on supervisory satisfaction. Participants were 291 supervisees who had participated in individual counseling practicum courses either in undergraduate or graduate Psychological Counseling and Guidance program in Turkish universities. Data were collected using the Brief Form of the Supervisory Working Alliance Inventory (BSWAI-T), Supervisee Disclosure in Supervision Scale (SDSS), and Supervisory Satisfaction Questionnaire (SSQ). Research results indicated that supervisory working alliance made direct contributions to supervisory satisfaction. In addition, the supervisory working alliance contributed indirectly to supervisory satisfaction via supervisee disclosure in supervision. Supervisory working alliance and supervisee disclosure in supervision explained 56% of the variance in supervisory satisfaction. This study offers novel insights into the role of supervisee disclosure in supervision as an underlying mechanism that operates on the influence of supervisory working alliance on supervisory satisfaction. Implications for the supervision process and counselor training are discussed.

This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of Sosu Critical Thinking Disposition Scale (TV-CTDS). The data were gathered from two independent samples consisting of undergraduate and graduate students from four different universities in the Black Sea region of Turkey. After the translation procedure, the psychometric properties of the TV-CTDS, including factor structure, measurement invariance, convergent validity, discriminant validity, and reliability, were investigated. The results of the study revealed that the two-factor model (critical openness and reflective skepticism) of the TV-CTDS presented a better fit to the data than the one-factor model, and two-factor model is invariant across different samples (undergraduate and graduate students) and genders. Also, the TV-CTDS showed convergent validity and discriminant validity across two different samples, and its internal consistency was adequate. Therefore, it can be said that the TV-CTDS can be used by educators, researchers, and professionals to assess undergraduate and graduate students' critical thinking dispositions in Turkey.

The study aimed to investigate the disciplinary variations and the structural/functional features of recurrent expressions in the introduction and literature sections of the Master of Arts (MA) theses in two corpora. It is significant since the bundles fulfil specific functions in the form of formulaic language. The sampling of the study was Turkish and British academic writers. Their essays mainly based on academic argumentative topics were selected as analysis data. Data collection included compilation and categorization of the computerized corpora for possible differences and similarities. Sketch Engine, an online text analysis tool, was used for the analysis. Exploring the usage patterns of recurrent expressions among the native and non-native corpora, we also analysed the four-word recurrent expressions and featured the existing variations of functional and structural aspects. Cross-linguistic analysis revealed that Turkish writers distinguish some features of recurrent expressions more than others. Structural expressions encompassed the verb-based, noun and propositional structures. The research, text, and participant oriented recurrent expressions built up the functional groups. The most frequently used functional categories were location and description in research-oriented recurrent expressions. The findings also indicated a positive role of recurrent expressions in the learning of the disciplinary features. Structural similarities were also found, indicating strong functional features for constructing discourse in research writing. The implication is that creating appropriate academic discursive practices with a focus on the properties of the recurrent expressions can be better analysed by employing several online corpus tools.

This paper is twofold. First, it examines the misconceptions held by students about atoms. Second, it determines the suggestions of the instructors (academics and teachers) to overcome these misconceptions. The study adopted a case study research method. A questionnaire was administered to 288 students and a semi-structured interview was conducted with 20 educators, including 10 teachers and 10 academics from the fields of physics and chemistry. A number of students were observed to have misconceptions about atoms, and they were unable to grasp the concept. This situation may have resulted from teaching students the theories of the atoms in a historically chronological order and ineffective methods of teaching. It was recommended that atomic models not be taught in primary school education, and that three new methods could be used in teaching this subject.

This study was conducted to identify the problems faced by refugee students during COVID-19 pandemic in open and distance learning and the best examples of practices put into effect to cope with these problems cope and solutions recommended to eliminate these problems, in Turkiye. In the study, the phenomenological research design, which is one of a qualitative research method, was used. By using the criterion sampling technique, a total of 14 teachers who had refugee students were selected as the research participants. Interviews were held with the volunteer participants. The research data were collected by using a semistructured interview form. The descriptive analysis method was used in the analysis of the research data. According to the study findings, the refugee students who did not have the necessary educational technology facilities in open and distance learning process and could not get sufficient family support felt more deeply the language problems which is experienced also by them in face-to-face education. In order to help refugee students with these problems, some school administrations provided the refugee students with tablet and computer support within the bounds of their means. In order to alleviate the effects of the problems faced by refugee students, it is recommended to provide refugee students with educational technology support, making up education and psychological support.

This study investigates the trends of doctoral dissertations produced in Türkiye in the field of Educational Technologies. 292 doctoral dissertations were included in this study which was conducted in the design of document analysis in the period between 2011 and 2020. The dissertations were put to content analysis by using the Dissertation Analysis Form developed within the scope of this study. The results demonstrated that the approach of the mixed method research was more commonly used in the dissertations. As a research model, it has been determined that case study from qualitative approaches and quasi-experimental model from quantitative approaches are mostly preferred. It is seen that the students of the faculty of education are greatly used as the sample. It is concluded that descriptive statistical methods are mostly used during the data analysis phase and the SPSS program is the most frequently preferred data analysis program. It has been determined that simple level statistical analysis techniques are used in theses. It is clear that although effect size calculations were made, there were also studies in which the type was not specified. Of the statistical techniques used for validity and reliability, Cronbach's Alpha internal consistency coefficient was found to be frequently used. 1376 keywords emerged in the analysed theses. These keywords were presented visually using a force-directed algorithm. Stating sampling methods clearly in studies will guide the studies to be conducted in the future. The sampling of different types of students is important in that it enriches the potential areas of study paving the way for the emergence of different perspectives.

This study aims to examine the contribution of ArtiBos, which is designed as a Gamified Adaptive Intelligent Tutoring System for students' problem-solving skills. In the study, first of all, the system's design features to improve problem-solving skills were examined, and then the effect of the system on problem-solving skills was evaluated. The study was carried out with 12 students studying in the ninth class of a High School in Türkiye and 6 mathematics teachers with different experiences working in the same school. A case study, one of the qualitative research methods were applied in this study through which ArtiBos system logs, student interviews, and teacher interviews were evaluated. Data pertaining to the number of solved problems, the number of problems created, the number of problems solved correctly, the duration of being online in the system, the rate of correct problem-solving, and the average solving time were examined to evaluate system logs. Interview questions have been prepared so that the contribution of system features to problem-solving skills can be evaluated. The data from the interview were analyzed and some codes for problem-solving skills were created. And then, sub-themes were created by combining the codes. The results show that ArtiBos affects students' problem-solving skills positively.

According to 2022 data, approximately 4 million Syrians live in Türkiye, and it is known that %24.7 of them have various disabilities. Recent research has shown that the developmental disability is one of the most common types of disability among Syrian refugees in Türkiye. We aimed to investigate the lives of refugees with developmental disabilities, who are twice a minority. Among the Syrian refugees in Türkiye, 24.7% are individuals with special needs. It was reported that developmental disabilities and post-traumatic stress disorder are the most prevalent diagnoses across the refugees. The study aims to investigate the current status and educational needs of Syrian refugees with developmental disabilities and their parents, who live in refugee camps in Türkiye with a specific emphasis on their education life. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with young refugees with developmental disabilities and their parents in the study conducted with a phenomenological approach. The content analysis conducted on the study data revealed that these individuals migrated to Türkiye due to the Syrian war, and they did not want to return to their home country. Since they lived in camps in Türkiye, they have been isolated from social life. Participants stated that they mostly required special education and health facilities and socialization. The identified problems were analyzed, and certain recommendations are presented based on the study findings.

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of rhythm and dance on the aggression levels of students with mild mental disabilities. The sample group of the study consists of 40 students with mild mental disability, 20 of whom are in the experimental group and 20 in the control group, who continue their education in schools affiliated with the Kilis Provincial Directorate of National Education. Buss-Perry's (1992) aggression scale was applied as pre-test and post-test to both groups, and rhythm and dance training was given to the experimental group for 2 hours, 2 days a week for 8 weeks. In the analysis of the data obtained, frequency and percentage analysis were performed by using the SPSS 22.0 program, and dependent and independent t-test was used in the analysis of the pre-test and post-test data. No significant results were obtained in the pre-test scores of the experimental and control groups (p > 0.05). In the evaluation made between the experimental group and the control group, a significant result was reached in the post-test scores in favor of the experimental group (p < 0.05). In conclusion, based on the data obtained, we can say that rhythm and dance games positively reduce the aggression levels of children with mild mental disabilities.

This study was designed to examine the development of pre-service teachers' knowledge of concept cartoons for three years within the scope of the courses they took. For three years, pre-service teachers took courses in scientific research methods, instructional technologies and material development, special teaching methods and teaching practice. During these lessons, the learning levels of pre-service teachers towards concept cartoons were examined. In the analysis of the data, the concept cartoons evaluation rubric and the concept cartoons application observation chart were used. Although they were not able to prepare concept cartoons and make applications at the expert level, it was concluded that the education the pre-service teachers received was effective. It is thought that arrangements are necessary to ensure the continuation of communication between teachers and lecturers.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of online, flipped, and in-class critical thinking teaching on critical thinking skills and dispositions of university students. Pretest-posttest control group quasi-experimental design was employed in this study that has three experimental groups and one control group. In the first experimental group, critical thinking teaching was conducted fully online. In the second experimental group, flipped classroom approach was employed while teaching critical thinking. In the third experimental group, critical thinking teaching was conducted in face-to-face classes. Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Test and Sosu Critical Thinking Dispositions Scale were used to collect the data. Online, flipped, and in-class explicit critical thinking instructions enhanced university students' critical thinking skills and dispositions with a large effect. Also, the most effective learning environment to promote critical thinking skills and dispositions was flipped, online, and in-class, respectively.

Although refugee education is among the prominent research topics today, there is limited information in the literature about preschool, one of the important periods of education, and classroom management in this context. The purpose of this study is to explore the classroom management experiences of preschool teachers who have refugee students in their classrooms. In this way, this research examines the experiences of teachers about how they make sense of the difficulties they face in the classroom and the strategies they develop to combat them. Twenty-one preschool teachers with refugee students in their classrooms were included in this qualitative study through criterion purposive-measure sampling method. The data were collected using a semistructured interview form and analyzed using content analysis. Research findings showed that the difficulties experienced by teachers in terms of classroom management with the presence of refugee students in their classrooms were listed under the categories of grouping tendency, difficulties in implementation, need for additional activities, lack of time, communication problems, exhibiting unwanted behaviors, adaptation problems, tendency to disobey rules and cultural differences. Furthermore, the study revealed what kind of solutions teachers applied in terms of classroom management for the difficulties arising from the presence of refugee students in the classroom. The teachers used some strategies such as using visual elements, mainstreaming, considering individual differences, increasing comprehensibility, peer support, social communication, language activities, using reinforcement, intensive communication, and family support. In line with the results of the research, suggestions for future research and practices are discussed. Serious consequences of teachers' experienced burnout have repeatedly been reported. Thus, it is important to identify teachers' level of burnout and underlying factors. Accordingly, the current study aims to investigate the level of burnout English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers in Türkiye may feel, and if four factors (age, gender, length of teaching experience, and type of school) predict their level of burnout. To that end, a quantitative orientation was adopted. Through convenience sampling 132 EFL teachers working in different regions of Türkiye voluntarily took part in the research. They were asked to fill out Maslach's Burnout Inventory-Educators Survey, and to provide some demographic information. Three separate scores for each participant were obtained through three subscales in the 22-item Likert-type inventory; emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal achievement. Multiple regression analysis and a full-factorial ANOVA were conducted to reveal any possible effects of the four factors on the perceived burnout of the participants. The results revealed that majority of EFL teachers experience diminished personal accomplishment at a high level. Among the four variables, age was the most reliable precursor of burnout; however, the only statistically significant interaction was with depersonalization. The results suggest that EFL teachers need to see more concrete outcomes of their professional effort to improve their sense of personal accomplishment. In addition, as teachers get older, they may be engaged in activities that help them refresh their professional enthusiasm to prevent depersonalization.

The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between self-confidence and sportsmanlike behaviors of School of Physical Education and Sports students within the scope of sports literacy. A total of 173 (M=22.45, SD=1.25) university students, 119 of whom were male (M=22.77, SD=0.98) and 54 of whom were female (M=21.75, SD=0.78), participated in the study. "Personal Information Form" and "Self-Confidence Scale" and "Multidimensional Sportspersonship Orientation Scale" were used to collect data in the research. Random sampling method was used to determine the participants of the study. The research data were analyzed using a statistical analysis program. Correlation and multiple regression analysis were used in the analysis of the data. According to the correlation results, the sub-dimensions of MSOS, which are Compliance with the Social Norms, Respect for Rules and Management, Commitment to Responsibilities in Sports, Respect for the Opponent, sportsmanship total score, and the sub-dimensions of the self-confidence scale, internal self-confidence and external self-confidence scores show a positive and significant relationship. Multiple regression analysis results showed that external self-confidence values explained 21% of sportsmanship. As a result, although self-confidence and sportsmanlike behaviors have a strong relationship, it has been seen that external self-confidence is a predictor of sportsmanship. It can be said that the self-confidence levels of individuals increase their sportsmanship levels.

COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has affected higher education institutions all over the world, causing face-to-face education to cease. Schools have tried to carry out educational activities through online teaching either by using on premise infrastructure or by leasing cloud based online platforms. Although these platforms are convenient, most of them do not meet all the requirements for higher education institutions. Not knowing where the personal data is stored in a public cloud creates another problem for some countries according to laws. In this study, a new online learning platform has been developed for higher education institutions to solve these problems using state-of-the-art cloud technologies. The new system enables implementation of individual curricula of many higher education institutions in one software system, and it can be taken into service quickly in emergencies. It expands dynamically by activating a large number of streaming servers to meet the demand. The new system provides easy to use-learn interfaces, offers an economical solution for e-learning by sharing the resources, and compliant with the law on protection of personal data. The new platform was in service at 12 universities in Turkiye during the fall 2020, and its performance was measured with surveys at various levels.

This study aims to examine graders' satisfaction with the open-ended question implementation in one of the open education systems in Türkiye. The quantitative research method was adopted in this study in which the data were collected through a questionnaire developed by the researchers. The graders' satisfaction regarding open-ended question implementation was discussed in three dimensions. These are "the functioning of the open-ended question grading system", "the need for communication/help while using the system" and "the importance of open-ended questions in open and distance learning". Whether the sub-dimension scores of the measurement tool were different from the expected values was examined with the Wilcoxon test. The graders' satisfaction regarding open-ended question implementation was analysed according to gender, title, and course variables. It was observed that the graders' satisfaction levels regarding the "Satisfaction with the grading system" and the "importance of open-ended questions in open and distance learning" were high. It was observed that the satisfaction levels of the graders regarding the "Satisfaction with the grading system", "the need for communication/help arising during using the system" and "the importance of open-ended questions in open and distance learning" did not change according to gender, academic title and the type of course they scored.

Since the civil war broke out in Syria, millions of refugees have had to migrate to Türkiye and neighboring countries. Thus, refugee students have become a serious problem for many countries. The current study used a phenomenological approach to explore inclusive leadership behaviors in Turkish schools serving refugee pupils. The descriptive analysis technique was adopted in this study, in which School administrators and teachers participated. Findings have shown that the most common problems faced by school administrations while involving refugee students in educational activities are language difficulties, poor academic achievement, absenteeism, and adaptation problems experienced by refugee students. To involve refugee students in education, the practices carried out by school administrators are guidance and cooperation, employment of Syrian teachers, sports and cultural activities, establishment of integration classes, and translator support. As expected, the research findings showed that there is no exclusion against refugee students in Türkiye due to inclusive leadership practices carried out by school administrators and cultural and religious similarities between refugee students and Turkish students.

This research was aimed at examining the influence of teachers' psychological empowerment on their commitment to the school in the case of private schools in Antalya province, Turkey. Data were collected twice, first 297 teachers for scale development; second, we collected data from separate 297 teachers for the main analysis. A correlational type of research design was utilized. As a result, teachers were psychologically empowered and strongly committed to school at a high level. Teachers have statistically no or very weak differences regarding their education level, gender, and length of service in their perception of both psychological empowerment and organizational commitment. Moreover, psychological empowerment and teachers' organizational commitment were significantly correlated. Finally, it was seen that the influence dimension was an important predictor of organizational commitment. Attitude, length of service, and age had no significant effect. Therefore it is recommended that principals should actively build the social, intellectual, and professional capital of teachers, which results in teachers themselves being empowered psychologically and finally committed to the school.

This research aims to examine the mediating role of social exclusion in the relationship between a sense of belonging and loneliness in international students. The research sample is composed of international students studying in universities in Türkiye. In the research, in which 284 students voluntarily participated, General Belongingness Scale, UCLA Loneliness Scale, and Social Exclusion Scale were applied. The study was designed by establishing Hayes Process Model 4 as the regression model. Sense of belonging was found to be in negative relation with social exclusion and loneliness. Moreover, a positive relationship was observed between social exclusion and loneliness. Finally, it was noticed that social exclusion acts as a mediator of the process towards belonging and loneliness and has a significant impact on loneliness. These findings were discussed within the literature framework mentioned in the conclusion part, and suggestions were made.

This study aims to examine the effects of Mind Sports (chess and mancala) and Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence Training on the aggression levels of students with mild intellectual disabilities. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 60 students with mild intellectual disabilities (30 in the experimental group and 30 in the control group) who study at schools affiliated with the Gaziantep Provincial Directorate of National Education. While Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (1992) was applied as a pre-test and post-test to both groups, three hours of Mind Sports and Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence training was given to the experimental group three days a week for twelve weeks. (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 1,5 saat Mind Sports and 1,5 saat Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence training). The data obtained were analyzed by conducting frequency and percentage analyses, while dependent and independent t-tests were conducted to analyze the pre-test and post-test data using the statistical software of SPSS 24.0. According to the pre-test scores, a significant result could not be found between the experimental and control groups (p>0.05). According to the evaluation between the experimental group and the control group, a significant result was found in the post-test scores in favor of the experimental group (p>0.05). Based on the data obtained, we can conclude that Mind Sports and Kinesthetic Intelligence Training positively reduce the aggression levels of children with mild intellectual disabilities.

This study, carried out during COVID-19, aimed at evaluating the effects of music lesson activities prepared with blended learning and the ASSURE instructional design model on both students and music teachers. 10th grade students (n=30) in a public school participated in the study. An action research design was prepared with a combination of learning at stations method, mobile games (Rhythm Cat, NoteWorks) and Web 2.0 tools (Thinglink, Plickers, Kahoot). "Teacher diary" and "semi-structured interview protocol" were used as data collection tools. The data were analyzed by content analysis with Maxqda software. Interrater reliability of the two experts asked to code the qualitative data was calculated to increase the reliability of the study. Following the implementation, the findings showed that the students' independent learning, motivation, collaboration, making learning fun, interaction, communication, competition, socialization and productivity improved intensively. It was understood that the emerged negativities were not related to the teaching tools used in the action research procedure but were generally related to the negative learning conditions due to the pandemic. The most notable negative aspects were difficulty in technological competence, difficulties in self-regulation, temporary anxiety, digital access and some short-term technological malfunctions. The study concludes with several recommendations and highlights the points that need further attention in such innovative research.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the findings of studies on digital storytelling in the field of classroom education in Turkey using the systematic review method and determine the type of distribution that exists. The study analyzed 36 scientific publications made until the end of 2021. ERIC, Web of Science, Ulakbim, Google Scholar and National Thesis Center databases of the Council of Higher Education were used in the selection of the studies. Each of the theses and articles were analysed by content analysis and the results obtained from the research were examined in terms of digital storytelling tools. In the interpretation of the data obtained, tables were used and only frequencies were included numerically in the tables. As a result of the analysis, it was observed that the outputs of all categories in the studies using desktop applications were mostly obtained from Photostory. When we look at the results of the studies in which web-supported tools were used, it was determined that the cognitive outputs were mostly obtained from the studies in which Powtoon and Tondoo tools were included in the implementation process. Similarly, the data revealed in terms of social and teaching aspects were obtained from studies dealing with Powtoon as a digital storytelling tool. Goanimate software was generally used in studies involving technological and affective findings. It was determined that the results evaluated under the psychomotor title were generally obtained from studies in which Goanimate and Storyjumper were used. Based on these results, in order to reach web 4.0 technology, virtual libraries that contain digital stories can be created in schools in Turkey. In rural areas that are unable to access the Internet, mobile libraries can be prepared.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between classroom teachers' commitment to their profession and professional attitudes, as well as the mediating role that self-efficacy belief plays in this relationship. The relational screening model was chosen as the method in the research. The study group of the research consists of a total of 235 classroom teachers, 188 of whom are female and 47 male, working in various primary schools in Turkey. In the research, attitude towards the teaching profession, dedication to the teaching profession, and teacher self-efficacy belief scales were used as data collection tools. Data were analyzed by correlation and structural equation model analysis. The analyzes show that there are positive and moderately significant relationships between teacher self-efficacy belief and attitude towards the teaching profession, and between commitment to the teaching profession and teacher self efficacy belief. In addition, the results reveal that there is a highly significant positive relationship between commitment to the teaching profession and attitude towards the teaching profession. On the other hand, the Z value calculated according to the Sobel test equation was found to be 4.64 and it was concluded that self-efficacy belief partially mediated the relationship between professional attitude and commitment to the profession. In order to increase the validity of the significance levels of direct and indirect effects, bootstrapping was performed and the mediating role of self-efficacy belief was supported in the relationship between professional attitude and commitment to the profession.

The aim of the study is to reveal physics teachers' views on constants in teaching physics subjects that include physical constants. The phenomenology approach, one of the qualitative research designs, was used in the study. The study group consists of a total of 10 physics teachers, 2 female and 8 male, working in five public high schools in two central districts of a province with metropolitan status in the east of Turkey. Data were collected using an opinion form containing three open-ended questions about physical constants prepared by the researcher. Descriptive analysis method was used to organize the data. Taking into account the similarities of the written answers, they were grouped under certain categories. The grouped answers of physics teachers, the number of men and women who wrote the answers and the total number of participants were transferred to the relevant tables prepared separately for each question. In addition, semi-structured interviews were held with 5 volunteers and free time participants among the 10 physics teachers who made up the study group. The opinions expressed by the participants in the interviews were examined and 4 opinions that were considered important and interesting were given verbatim in the findings section. Physics teachers' answers (60.0%) such as "No explanation is given because they are constants" and "Explanations are made as written in the reference books and their numerical values are given exactly" support the claim that physical constants are not taken into consideration in the teaching process.

The purpose of this study is to reveal the current status of the work-life balance of individuals working as classroom teachers, Turkish teachers and administrators in Turkey and Northern Cyprus and to examine them according to various demographic and professional characteristics. The study was carried out in relational screening model. The research population consists of people who work as primary school teachers, Turkish language teachers and administrators in Turkey and Northern Cyprus in the 2021-2022 academic year. The sample consisted of a total of 1059 people, 836 of whom were teachers and 223 of whom were administrators, selected using random sampling method. The data of the study were collected through an online questionnaire that included the Personal Information Form and the Work-Life Balance Scale. The data collected within the scope of the study were evaluated with quantitative analysis methods using the SPSS-26 software. In this context, frequency analysis, descriptive statistics methods, independent groups t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey HSD test were used. As a result of the study, it was observed that the participants were able to maintain work-life balance at a moderate level. In general, work-life balance does not differ significantly according to gender, marital status, having children and status (p>0.05), but the participants aged 51 and above have a significantly higher work-life balance than the participants aged 22-30 (p<0.05), and, results according to sub-dimensions are presented in the study.

This study aims to determine the learning outcomes of children in educational settings by using an AR (Augmented Reality) app for animals in classroom activities. To achieve this, the study used sequential exploratory research design, applied in both quantitative and qualitative research. The participants in the study are 2 teachers and 37 children working in the kindergarten affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in the central district of Kilis Province in the 2019-2020 academic year. The augmented reality app was used in one group (n = 18) of children, and not in the other group (n = 19). The children were given an animal recognition test prepared by the researchers before the app was used and again afterward in an attempt to discover how the AR app affected learning. The study determined that while animal recognition increased in both the AR and non-AR groups, the children in the group where the AR app was used recognized more animals than the other group. As a result of the analyses made of the animal pictures drawn by the children who used the AR app, it was understood that the children had the opportunity to discover details about the animals. Additionally, the study conducted analyses of animal pictures drawn by the children who used the AR app, revealing that the app provided children with opportunities to discover and explore intricate details about the animals.

The purpose of the study is to research the assertiveness levels of university students and their attitudes toward physical education course in terms of gender, doing regular sports and academic achievement. The design of the research is descriptive. The sample of the study consists of university students who take physical education and sport course in the first aid and emergency department of Artvin Coruh University in the 2018-2019 academic year. A total of 116 university students with a mean age of 20.64 participated in the study as voluntarily. Physical Education and Sport Attitude Scale was used to measure students' attitudes and the Rathus Assertiveness Inventory was used to measure assertiveness levels. In the study, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to determine the distribution of normality, the Pearson correlation test was used to examine the relationship between students' attitudes towards physical education and sport and assertiveness levels, the independent sample t-test in parametric distributions, the Mann Whitney U test was used in non-parametric distributions. Kruskal Wallis test was used in more than two groups because the distributions are not normal. According to the findings, there was a negative correlation between the assertiveness levels of students and their attitudes toward physical education course. There was a significant difference between the attitudes towards physical education course in terms of gender, on the contrary, there was no significant difference between assertiveness levels in terms of gender. There was no significant difference between assertiveness levels and the attitudes towards physical education course in terms of doing regular sports and there was no significant difference between assertiveness levels and the attitudes towards physical education course in terms of academic achievement. As a result, although there was a negative relationship between attitudes of university students towards physical education and sports course and assertiveness levels, it was observed that attitudes towards the course are more positive in favor of male students. There were no significant differences between the levels of assertiveness and attitudes towards physical education and sports courses in terms of doing regular sports and academic achievement levels.

Purpose: The current study seeks to explore the links between principal self-efficacy, openness to change, well-being, and transformational leadership. Specifically, we tested a mediated-effects model where principal self-efficacy and openness to change were treated as independent variables, well-being as mediator, and transformational leadership as dependent variable. Design/methodology/approach: Survey data were collected from 351 principals employed in Turkish schools and analysed using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling. Findings: The results suggested the direct empirical relationship of principal self-efficacy and openness to change with transformational leadership, and indirect through professional well-being. Originality/value: Our study enriched our understanding of school leadership by elucidating the potential mechanisms that underpin the implementation of transformational leadership practices.

A cross-sectional research design was used to examine the relationship between personality, self-compassion and social interest levels of 351 psychological counsellor candidates. Data were collected with the Personality Test of Adjectives, the Self-Compassion Scale Short Form, and the Social Interest Index. Correlation and regression analyses were used to analyze data. A moderately negative relationship was found between self-compassion and neuroticism, while a moderately positive relationship was found between extraversion, openness to experience, and conscientiousness, and a low-level positive relationship was found between agreeableness. While a moderate negative relationship was observed between social interest and neuroticism, a moderate positive relationship was found between extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness, and responsibility. Personality explained 47.6% of the variance regarding self-compassion and 42.2% of the variance regarding social interest.

This article examines the campaign of schooling and education reforms for non-Sunni or "heterodox" groups, particularly the Nusayri community, during the reign of Abdulhamid II (1876-1908) in the late Ottoman Empire in Syria and Southern Turkey. Through a detailed examination of Ottoman archival documents, missionary reports, and accounts, this article sheds light on Ottoman strategies to correct the beliefs of Nusayri children through education to develop a decent and loyal Sunni generation and to prevent missionary activities among community members. The article links the educational policies of the Hamidian regime to its governance and hegemony strategies in the periphery, where Ottoman authority was relatively weak and challenged. In this regard, this article argues that the Ottoman State attempted to normalise and eradicate cultural, religious, and social distinctions by converting the Nusayris to Sunni Islam and educating them to create a homogenous social structure on the periphery, thereby transforming them into loyal subjects and preventing them from attending missionary schools. The campaign of schooling, which was instrumentalised in attaining ideological, political, and religious objectives, was a significant pillar of these policies. However, the late Ottoman administration did not apply uniform schooling and education policies towards the Nusayris at schools in Antakya and Latakia, as the central administration took into consideration regional geographic, demographic, political, and socioeconomic conditions, priorities, and risks. The ultimate goal of Hamidian educational initiatives was the preservation of the empire by the adoption of diverse approaches to accomplish its own goals, but the outcomes of the educational policies reflected the weaknesses of an empire that had been in turmoil for over a century.

Objective: This review summarizes evidence pertaining to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the psychological health of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Materials and Methods: An electronic search was conducted using four major databases--PubMed, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. Using an umbrella methodology, the reference lists of relevant papers were reviewed, and citation searches were conducted. The study included articles written in English between January 2020 and March 2021 that focused on the psychological health of autistic children and adolescents. Results: All eight studies included in the final review were cross-sectional. Three of the eight studies were conducted in Italy, two in Turkey, and one study each in Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom, with a total of 1,407 participants. All studies used a mixture of standardized and non-standardized questionnaires to collect data. The total number of patients were 1407 at a mean age of 9.53 (SD = 2.96) years. Seven studies report gender; male 74.7% (657/880) and female 25.3% (223/880). The finding showed that behavioral issues in children and adolescents with ASD have significantly increased; 521 (51.9 percent) of the 1004 individuals with ASD presented with behavioral changes, including conduct problems, emotional problems, aggression, and hyperactivity. Some studies also found increased anxiety and difficulties managing emotions. Only one study reported clinical stabilization in children with ASD during COVID-19. Finally, 82.7% of families and caregivers of children with ASD (544 out of 658) faced challenges during COVID-19. Conclusion: Although the studies in this review suggest a general worsening of ASD children's clinical status, it remains difficult to draw definitive conclusions at this moment, with newer COVID-19 variants on the rise worldwide. During this difficult pandemic period, caregivers, families, and healthcare professionals are recommended to pay more attention to the ASD patients' health and care needs.

Objective: To determine the demographic and clinical characteristics of children followed up with the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at a tertiary center in Southeeast Turkey. Methods: Children followed up with the diagnosis of ASD at a university hospital child psychiatry clinic between June 2016 and June 2021 were evaluated retrospectively for comorbidities, intellectual functioning and age at diagnosis. Results: In the preschool group, females displayed significantly more frequent cognitive developmental delay. Median age at diagnosis was 36 months (IQR= 22) regardless of gender. Approximately three-fourth (73.7%) of the cases had at least one psychiatric comorbid disorder while 22.8% had at least one medical diagnosis. Psychiatric comorbidity was found to be associated with later diagnosis. Conclusion: Although the age at first diagnosis in this study is relatively earlier than the studies in the literature, most of the children with ASD are still diagnosed very late. Psychiatric comorbidities may lead to later diagnosis due to overshadowing. Training of educational and primary healthcare workers on symptoms of ASD may enable earlier diagnosis.

Intellectual disability (ID) persists from birth through adulthood and aging. Thus, the support provided to individuals with intellectual disabilities (IwID) in adulthood is essential to increase their self-determination and quality of life. This research aimed to determine how IwID may receive support for education, working life, accommodation, and leisure in adulthood in the Turkish context by increasing their and their families' quality of life without socially discriminating against them. Qualitative data were collected in two stages, combining semi-structured interviews and the Delphi study technique. Results prompted the recommendation that a legal basis for transition-to-adulthood planning be established in Turkey for a functional adult service model. Next, a model with specific standards by which multidisciplinary experts analyse education, work, leisure, and housing alternatives for preadulthood and adulthood should be developed and coordinated by the Turkish Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Family. Implications for the future are further discussed.

This study tested a moderated mediation model of transformational leadership's effects on teacher innovative practices, with teacher commitment as mediator and trust in principal as moderator. Implementing a cross-sectional survey design and using data from 611 teachers working in 56 schools in Turkey, we employed multilevel structural equation modelling with Bayesian estimation to estimate the structural links between our variables. The results provided evidence of the indirect effects of transformational leadership on teacher innovative practices through the significant mediator role of teacher commitment. We also found evidence that trust in principal acted as a significant moderator of the indirect effect of transformational leadership on teacher innovative practice through teacher commitment. This study adds nuanced evidence to the global literature by concluding that the effect of transformational leadership on teacher commitment and innovative practice is contingent upon the extent to which teachers trust their principals. We conclude with key implications for policy and practice.
