Achene anatomy and stomatal characteristics of eighteen Crepis taxa from Turkey are here described for the first time. In all taxa examined the pericarp is composed of several layers of sclerenchymatous and parenchymatous cells. As for the achene, differences among taxa mainly concern the pericarp structure and its thickness and width. Stomata are present on both surface of the leaf in all studied taxa and all taxa have anomocytic type stomata. However, the dimensions (length and width) and density of the stomata differ significantly among the studied taxa. In addition, the dimensions of stomata are negatively correlated with stomata density. It is concluded that achene anatomy and stomatal characteristics are useful for delimitation of Crepis taxa and a key to taxa based on these characters is provided. However, based on achene anatomy and stomatal characteristics, we found no argument for an exclusion of the Lagoseris group from Crepis as has previously been proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study deals with the exergetic performance assessment of a combined heat and power (CHP) system installed in Eskisehir city of Turkey. Quantitative exergy balance for each component and the whole CHP system was considered, while exergy consumptions in the system were determined. The performance characteristics of this CHP system were evaluated using exergy analysis method. The exergetic efficiency of the CHP system was accounted for 38.16% with 49 880 kW as electrical products. The exergy consumption occurred in this system amounted to 80 833.67 kW. The ways of improving the exergy efficiency of this system were also analysed. As a result of these, a simple way of increasing the exergy efficiency of the available CHP system was suggested that the valves-I–III and the MPSC could be replaced by a 3500 kW-intermediate pressure steam turbine (IPST). If the IPST is installed to the CHP system (called the modified CHP (MCHP) system), the exergetic efficiency of the MCHP system is calculated to be 40.75% with 53 269.53 kW as electrical products. A synopsis of Acantholimon in Turkey is given on the basis of a revisional study conducted in Turkey by the authors. An account of 52 species, ten subspecies, and 17 varieties is given, including keys to the species, subspecies, and varieties, and a general indication of their distribution, as well as their conservation status in Turkey. Seven new taxa, namely A. ekimii sp. nov., A. capitatum ssp. sivasicum ssp. nov., A. calvertii var. glabrum var. nov., A. huetii var. breviscapum var. nov., A. acerosum ssp. longibracteolorum ssp. nov., A. lycaonicum ssp. cappadocicum ssp. nov., and A. halophilum var. coloratum var. nov., are described, together with a few new combinations. A. wiedemannii, A. iconicum, and A. lycaonicum, described from Turkey in the past, but placed under other species as synonyms in the Flora of Turkey, are recognized once again as good species. A. multiflorum and A. parviflorum are given a species status.
