Abstract

The article presents information about the Texas Youth Commission, America's second-largest juvenile corrections agency. The agency is facing state and federal investigations into alleged sexual abuse by juvenile corrections officers. Violence is reported at regular intervals at some corrections centers of the agency. On October 1, 2007, state inspectors disclosed that juvenile detainees were forced to sleep on filthy mats and eat bug-infested food.
