The article examines why the treeline is at a higher elevation in the Tetons than in the White Mountains. According to the article, treeline is commonly an uneven zone of transition from scattered shrubby trees to treeless areas but with a few specialized herbs and a hardy crust of lichens. It adds that the problems at higher elevations is that the growing season is colder and shorter.
