The objective of this paper is to examine the effectiveness of a creativity-fostering program in industrial engineering and management (IE&M) curriculum reform. Fostering creativity in students has become a crucial issue in industrial engineering education. In a survey of previous studies, we found few on IE&M curriculum reform. In particular, no study has dealt directly with fostering students' creativity. In this study, we propose an IE&M curriculum reform program. The core of this program is intended to enhance students' creative problem solving ability. Based on this concept, three required courses were developed: industrial communication, creative problem solving, and scientific research methodology. To investigate the effectiveness of this curriculum reform program, we conducted a two-year follow-up study. One hundred seventy-seven IE&M undergraduates from Yuan-Ze University participated this study, and Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT) were used to measure changes in their creativity. The results showed that the students, after completing this reformed curriculum program, had significantly improved their creativity. (Contains 1 figure and 8 tables.)

This study analyzes how human aggregate moderates the effect of inspiration through action on student imagination. A survey was administered at five universities across various regions of Taiwan. The participants in this study consisted of 543 engineering majors. Structural equation modeling was used to test all the proposed hypotheses. The results showed that inspiration through action had the strongest effect on student imagination, followed by human aggregate and social climate. Our data also indicated that student imagination levels were highest when students were also high in inspiration through action and human aggregate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Chronic disease has gradually become a major fatality cause in Taiwan. Being afflicted with such illnesses elevate vulnerability to other complications as well. Therefore, this paper adopts a preventative perspective and ascertains the impacts of important physiological indicators and clinical test values for various chronic illnesses. The paper investigates five chronic diseases: hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, disease of the liver, and renal disease. Utilizing chronic diseases risk factors to establish early-warning criteria may reduce the complication occurrence rate. K-nearest neighbor, linear discriminant analysis, and sequential forward selection are utilized, which is divided into two parts. The first part classifies and screens both healthy persons and those affiliated with the abovementioned chronic illnesses for characteristic value determination. The second part determines the critical value of the important risk factors of each chronic illness and builds early-warning criteria to recognition the chronic illnesses. This paper uses data from a medical center in Taiwan to verify the proposed methodology. The results reveal that classifying materials and screening important factors are both positively efficient with a corrected rate of 80%. Additionally, through the important factors of early-warning criteria, not only can help patients understand the risks of suffering diseases, but also effectively offer diagnosis reference criteria for medical personnel. The development of a health evaluation system from human-related data is an important issue in preventive medicine. Previously, most studies have focused on disease assessment and prevention in patients. However, even if certain risk factors are all within normal ranges, individuals may not necessarily be completely healthy. This study focused on healthy individuals to develop a new index to assess health risks; this index can be used for the prevention of multiple diseases in healthy people. The kernel density technique was proposed to estimate the distribution of common risk factors and to develop a health risk index. A dataset of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and hyperglycemia (Triple H) data from the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan was used to demonstrate the proposed analytical process. The results of risk factor changes after six weeks of exercise were used to calculate the health risk index. The results showed that the subjects experienced a 7.29% reduction in their health risk index after the exercise intervention. This finding demonstrates the potential impact of an important reference index on quantifying the effect of maintenance in healthy people.
