A study conducted by researchers at Chungnam National University in South Korea has identified a novel immune evasion mechanism of the African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV). The virus, which causes African swine fever (ASF), a highly contagious and often fatal disease in pigs, inhibits the type I interferon pathway by targeting STING and 2'3'-cGAMP. The researchers found that ASFV B175L, a protein encoded by the virus, interacts with both cGAMP and STING, interfering with the antiviral signaling response.
