Abstract

The article discusses a study which revealed that captive, free-roaming supervision of golden-headed lion tamarins at Zürich Zoo in Switzerland can contribute to higher success in reproduction and better welfare. The research revealed that the growth of a group of lion tamarins in captive, free-roaming condition was faster than that of traditional indoor group. It also stated that no medical intervention had been performed for the free-roaming group during labour, contrary to the indoor-housed lion tamarins.
