The fossilized traces of burrowing worms have taken on a considerable importance in studies of the Cambrian explosion, partly because of their use in defining the base of the Cambrian. Foremost among these are the treptichnids, a group of relatively large open probing burrows that have sometimes been assigned to the activities of priapulid scalidophoran worms. Nevertheless, most Cambrian burrows have an uncertain progenitor. Here we report a suite of exceptionally preserved trace and body fossils from sandstones of the lower Cambrian (Stage 4) File Haidar Formation of southern Sweden that can unequivocally be assigned to a scalidophoran producer. We further present the first burrow casts produced via actualistic experiments on living priapulids, and demonstrate the remarkable morphological parallels between these modern and Cambrian fossil equivalents. In addition, co-occurrence of scalidophoran-derived cuticular remains permits a unique synthesis of evidence from trace fossil, body and organic remains. Comparative analysis of these exceptionally preserved fossils supports a scalidophoran producer for treptichnids and by extension suggests a latest Ediacaran origin of the ecdysozoan clade.

Objectives: To analyse the incidence and the prognostic value of the reperfusion peak in a population of patients with AMI treated with thrombolysis., Design: Two hundred and sixty-nine patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction treated with thrombolysis were monitored with continuous on-line vectorcardiography., Results: A reperfusion peak defined as a transiently increased ST-VM of >50 microV followed by an immediate decrease to a level lower than the starting point was seen in 112 of all 269 (42%) patients and in 111 of 149 (75%) of the patients with successful ST-resolution. A reperfusion peak was an independent predictor of better prognosis both in the short- and the long term but had no implications on the prognosis in the subgroup with successful ST-resolution., Conclusion: A reperfusion peak was equally common in patients treated with thrombolysis having a successful ST-resolution as observed in studies of patients with successful primary coronary angioplasty. The reperfusion peak was associated with better prognosis and should be recognised as a possible marker of successful reperfusion but can mimic aggravated ischemia.

Fatty fish species, e.g., salmon and herring, in the Baltic Sea have high levels of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis(p-chlorophenyl)ethane (p,p'-DDT), and its main metabolite: 1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis(p-chlorophenyl)-ethylene (p,p'-DDE). We determined levels of 10 different PCB congeners, including non- and mono-ortho-PCBs, as well as DDT and DDE, in human blood plasma from 37 subjects with varying intake of fish (0-1 750 g/wk) from the Baltic Sea. With respect to all of the PCB congeners we investigated, as well as for DDT and DDE, there were statistically significant associations with fish intake. Thus, fish from the Baltic Sea is a major source of exposure to these compounds in Swedes. Polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDD) and dibenzofurans (PCDF) had been determined earlier in 29 of the subjects. The PCB contribution to "dioxin-like" effects among high consumers of fish (calculated as Nordic TCDD equivalents) was almost 80%, whereas that from PCDD and PCDF was only 20%.
