Malaria remains a significant global public health concern, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, where Plasmodium falciparum, the parasite responsible for severe forms of the disease, is highly prevalent. The emergence of antimalarial drug resistance, including artemisinin partial resistance and genome modifications that prevent detection by rapid diagnostic tests, poses a significant obstacle to effective treatment and control. The Horn of Africa, including Eritrea, has recently seen an alarming increase in drug-resistant parasites, threatening malaria control and elimination efforts in the region. To combat these challenges, international collaboration, surveillance, research, and innovative strategies are necessary. [Extracted from the article]
