ADULTS , *FORTUNE , *MANUFACTURING processes , *TWENTIETH century - Abstract
Drawing on fieldwork in Madrid, I argue that the growing redundancy of living labour power in the capitalist production process has translated, since the last decades of the 20th century, into surplus portions of the individual life-cycle. Capitalism's promise of productivity, associated with adulthood, has shrunk to become a window of opportunity. Besides sheer luck, it takes protracted preparation to seize this opportunity and inordinate effort to retain it. Adulthood is the mystified representation of structural pressures on productive activity, as an elusive personal accomplishment whose curtailment is one's own fault. Failure to realize it is further depoliticized as either a rejection of adulthood, or acceptance of besieged adulthood as a sign of maturity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: To show the body image of people over 50 in Spain using the Body Shape Questionnaire test (BSQ), taking into account attribute variables of great interest such as age, gender, sentimental status, habitat (rural or urban) and the season of the year in which the test is done (winter or summer). Data description: The results obtained show the current state of the body image of 176 people in the process of ageing in Spain. The data collected from the participants are organised taking into account attribute variables of significant impact on body image such as age, gender, having a stable partner, habitat (rural or urban) and the season of the year in which the test is done (winter or summer). These data are especially useful to show how body image changes over the time, depending on the different attributes and according to diverse emotional and social situations. They can be used in studies on body image, eating disorders or studies that assess the importance of physical appearance in someone's self-esteem regardless of age group, geographic area or personal emotional circumstances. In recent years many hectares planted with persimmon trees in E Spain have been diagnosed with chloride toxicity. An effect of this abiotic stress on fruit quality has been reported in different crops. However, the impact of chloride stress on persimmon fruit quality is unknown. The harvest and postharvest quality of persimmons harvested from trees that manifest different intensities of chloride toxicity foliar symptoms was evaluated herein. Our results revealed that fruits from trees under chloride stress conditions underwent chloride accumulation in the calyx, which was more marked the greater the salt stress intensity trees were exposed to. Increased chloride concentrations in the calyx stimulated ethylene production in this tissue. In the fruits affected by slight and moderate chloride stress, calyx ethylene production accelerated the maturity process, as reflected by increased fruit colour and diminished fruit firmness. In the fruits under severe chloride stress, the high ethylene levels in the calyx triggered autocatalytic ethylene production in other fruit tissues, which led fruit maturity to drastically advance. In these fruits effectiveness of CO 2 deastringency treatment was not complete and fruit softening enhanced during the postharvest period. Moreover, chloride stress conditions had a marked effect on reducing fruit weight, even in slightly stressed trees. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The influence of different climatic conditions on the phenolic composition of grape skins and seeds of Vitis vinifera L. cv. Graciano – an autochthonous cultivar from Rioja and Navarra regions (Spain) – was evaluated during ripening in a separate way. Graciano grapes from two different vineyards with different climatic conditions and from two different vintages (2008 and 2009) were analysed. Clear differences between phenolic maturity pattern of grape skins and seeds were observed. In this context, it may be important to evaluate the phenolic maturity of seeds and skins in a separate way in order to decide the optimal harvest time. It was also noticeable that the effect of vintage (mainly due to changes in climatic conditions) may affect the changes in the phenolic composition of both grape skins and seeds. Although in a lesser extent, the effect of the vineyard was also observable, and it was especially relevant in vintages with irregular climatic conditions such as 2008 vintage. In a second strand, results obtained from the phenolic composition of grape seeds and skins at harvest, oenological parameters at harvest and climate conditions during vegetative stage were evaluated and relationships among the aforementioned variables were revealed. - Abstract
Objective: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common childhood neurodevelopmental disorder characterised primarily by three core symptoms: inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. It is one of the most commonly diagnosed childhood psychiatric disorders, with a worldwide prevalence of between 3% and 5%, and between 6% and 7% in the Spanish population. The aim of the study is to analyse the trend in the consumption of drugs used for the treatment of ADHD between 2010-2019 in Castilla y León., Methods: Epidemiological registry study of all dispensing in pharmacies in Castilla y León between 2010 and 2019 to patients under 19 years of age, of active substance N06BA04 (methylphenidate), N06BA09 (atomoxetine), N06BA12 (lisdexamfetamine), N06BA07 (modafinil) and C02AC02 (guanfacine). Data on drug use were obtained from the information system for the pharmaceutical provision of Castilla y León, CONCYLIA. Frequencies in absolute values and the corresponding percentages were calculated. Student's t-test was used to estimate differences between continuous variables and Pearson's Chi-square test for categorical variables, while the trend in consumption was analysed using the Cochran-Armitage test., Results: ADHD medication was dispensed annually to 1.77% of the population, with consumption being more than three times higher in boys than in girls (2.69% vs 0.81%; p=0.001). The age group with the highest peak use was 10-14 years with 3.42%. Methylphenidate was the drug used by the highest percentage of the population (2.44%) followed by lisdexamfetamine (0.37%)., Conclusions: Approximately 2 out of every 100 people aged 0-19 years were treated with some ADHD medication, mainly methylphenidate, in Castilla y León between 2010 and 2019., Competing Interests: Disclosure The authors report no conflicts of interest in this work.

LIGHTING reflectors ,ORCHARDS ,COLOR of fruit ,FRUIT quality ,SOLAR radiation ,APPLES - Abstract
The effects of covering the orchard floor with Extenday™ or Solarmate™ reflective films on fruit color, fruit quality, canopy light distribution, orchard temperature, and profitability of 'Mondial Gala' apples (Malus xdomestica) were evaluated over a 3-year period (2000-02) at Lleida (northeastern Spain). Reflective film was laid down 5 weeks before commercial harvest. Photosynthetically active radiation in the lowest part of the tree (1 m aboveground level) increased by 34% and 56%, for Solarmate™ and Extenday™ films, respectively, compared with the control. Fruit color, measured with a portable tristimulus colorimeter, significantly increased on both sides of the fruit (with lower values of L* and hue) when using the film. A higher proportion of red blush over the fruit surface was observed for the fruit in the film treatments. Based on the fruit size and color required to meet European Union grade standards, the use of Extenday™ or Solarmate™ resulted in an increase of 26% and 17%, respectively, when compared with the control, for the number of fruit picked at first harvest. Season clearly affected fruit color development, whereas harvest date, fruit firmness, fruit size, soluble solid concentration, titratable acidity, and maturity were not consistently affected by the use of reflective film. Despite the advance in fruit color, the starch score did not appear to be affected by the use of film. Based on current fruit prices for the study period, both types of film increased orchard profitability compared with the control, but the long-term benefit of this technique will largely depend on fruit prices. TECHNOLOGY assessment ,DECISION support systems ,SOCIAL services ,MEDICAL care ,CLASSIFICATION - Abstract
Background: DESDE-LTC (Description and Evaluation of Services and DirectoriEs for Long-Term Care) is an international classification system that allows standardized coding and comparisons between different territories and care sectors, such as health and social care, in defined geographic areas. We adapted DESDE-LTC into a computer tool (DESDE-AND) for compiling a directory of care services in Andalucia, Spain. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the maturity of DESDE-AND. A secondary objective of this study is to show the practicality of a new combined set of standard evaluation tools for measuring the maturity of health technology products. Methods: A system for semiautomated coding of service provision has been co-designed. A panel of 23 domain experts and a group of 68 end users participated in its maturity assessment that included its technology readiness level (TRL), usability, validity, adoption (Adoption Impact Ladder [AIL]), and overall degree of maturity [implementation maturity model [IMM]). We piloted the prototype in an urban environment (Seville, Spain). Results: The prototype was demonstrated in an operational environment (TRL 7). Sixty-eight different care services were coded, generating fact sheets for each service and its geolocation map. The observed agreement was 90%, with moderate reliability. The tool was partially adopted by the regional government of Andalucia (Spain), reaching a level 5 in adoption (AIL) and a level 4 in maturity (IMM) and is ready for full implementation. Conclusions: DESDE-AND is a usable and manageable system for coding and compiling service directories and it can be used as a core module of decision support systems to guide planning in complex cross-sectoral areas such as combined social and health care. - Abstract
Marine organisms are exposed to great changes caused by man due to discharges into the oceans, so the study of marine pollution is of great value for each ecosystem. For this study, 963 specimens of pelagic fish have been collected, of which 345 are Scomber colias, 294 are Trachurus picturatus and 324 are Sardina pilchardus, it was wanted to study the development and ontogeny in the three species observing if there were variations in their metallic content. The study covered a total of 2 years, from June 2016 to May 2018.16 samples of each species were studied each month, during the 2 years of sampling, from the samplings carried out by the Canary Islands Oceanographic Center of the Spanish Institute Oceanography (COC-IEO) in the markets of the Island of Tenerife. The concentration of 11 anthropic metals was determined in each sample using the Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) technique. Statistical studies were carried out with factors such as the oceanographic season, and the level of maturity of the gonads. S. colias was the species that presented the highest concentration in a greater number of metals. S. pilchardus presents higher concentration in Cu, Li and Zn, in the warm season. These are metals of a very anthropic character on coasts; This species tends to get closer to the coasts compared to the other two and is the cause of its higher concentration in these metals due to the influence of pollution linked to the coast. The immature specimens of the three species had a higher concentration in more metals than the mature specimens., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest All authors of this manuscript affirm that there is no conflict of interest., (Copyright © 2020 Elsevier Ltd.
