The article titled "The teaching of Spanish pronunciation in the United States (1811-1910)" is a review of the work by M. Ángeles García Aranda. The book analyzes the history of teaching Spanish pronunciation in the United States through a corpus of fifty-three texts published between 1811 and 1910. The text examines the authors' conceptions of the relationship between spellings and sounds, as well as the description and representation of Spanish vowel sounds. It also analyzes the figurative pronunciations of vowels and descriptions of consonants in Spanish pronunciation teaching manuals. Additionally, it addresses the characterization of suprasegmental elements such as syllables, stress, rhythm, intonation, and pauses. The research is a contribution to the history of teaching Spanish pronunciation and linguistic historiography. [Extracted from the article]
