This study explores Chinese immigrant parents' decision-making processes regarding childcare arrangements in Spain based on migration status and the availability of kinship networks. Drawing on 33 semi-structured interviews with Chinese parents who have preschool-aged children during the early stages of parenthood, this study reveals that Chinese immigrants' childcare management is largely based on informal childcare provided by extended family members in both the host society and home country due to its high quality and flexibility, and because it transfers cultural values to the second generation. Moreover, migrant parents' childcare needs are constantly negotiated within extended families due to the roles of grandparents' care in other family members' wellbeing. By exploring Chinese families' collaborations, negotiations, and even conflicts in the childrearing decision-making process following families' migration to a receiving country, our research contributes to a better understanding of the complexity of migration and the role of kinship networks in ethnic minority groups' childcare choices. Most of the qualitative research aimed at diagnosing the educational performance of children of immigrant families in disadvantaged contexts does not address how such research can contribute to social impact. However, some research oriented to social impact has collected evidence of achieving improvement in schools implementing actions to promote educational success. This study is a qualitative meta-analysis of a line of research aimed at social impact to contribute to enhancing the educational success of children of immigrant families. Within the framework of this research line, the analysis focuses on three research projects, from the Spanish Research, Development and Innovation plans. These three research projects have analysed 23 case studies of schools in different disadvantaged contexts of Spain from 2009 to 2017. The main findings show that these research focused on social impact and included in their methodologies a category related to the improvement of educational achievement. Including the category of improvement of educational achievement allows qualitative research to obtain evidence of whether the educational actions implemented in those schools contribute to the educational success of children of immigrant families. The Carrera de Indias has been one of the areas of study that has received the most attention in historiography, especially on the relationships between Spain and America throughout the colonial period. The traffic of ships, men and merchandise continues to appeal considerable treatment, since the phenomenon presents enormous research possibilities: nautical, emigration, trade; but it is also true that the economic and human aspect has prevailed, leaving aside other dimensions. And so, among the emigrants settled there and the families that remained here, a large correspondence was maintained throughout the centuries of Modernity. Multiple references were made in these letters to the new life they were beginning in the West Indies. Among these references there was no shortage of those corresponding to life on board. This paper reports on interviews with 13 mothers and expectant mothers who had immigrated from Latin American countries and were living in Asturias, Spain. The purpose of the study was to investigate the Latinas' postimmigration perceptions, attitudes, and experiences. Qualitative analysis revealed several themes in the women's interview responses. Two of those themes - postimmigration challenges and opportunities found in Spain - are the focus of this paper. Evidence of three main types of challenge and three main types of opportunity is provided based on the Latinas' responses. A discussion section follows, relating the women's perceptions of challenges and opportunities to circumstances in Spain and differences in Spanish and Latin American cultures and societies. This study presents a model for researching the integration of the immigrant population in educational contexts based on a multidisciplinary approach. The Linguistic and Cultural Atlas of Immigration (ALCI) is a working tool designed for teachers who must serve students in their classrooms from languages and cultures other than that of instruction. The information the Atlas contains is the product of various research and documentation projects on the demographic variables of the foreign population located in central Spain, the habits and customs of their culture of origin and important aspects of their native, family or heritage language. The ALCI raises awareness of the results of linguistic and cultural research carried out with the collaboration of the immigrant population (students, their families and other participating adults) and teachers, so that they can be leveraged and employed in the classroom. This paper discusses the results of an action-research project developed in a federation of Parents Associations (PAs) in Catalonia, aimed at helping PAs involve immigrant families. First, I nuance the idea of participation in schools to highlight some of the problems associated with participative initiatives targeting ‘hard to reach’ parents. Then, I borrow the notion of Intermediary Organizations (IOs) to assess in what ways PAs may be able to become a valuable resource to help schools involve immigrant parents. In this regard, I analyse the situation of Pas located in multicultural contexts. Then, three specific PA projects are discussed to illustrate PA’s strengths and weaknesses when leading their own projects. In conclusion, I argue that, in order to work as truly IOs, PAs must: (a) build on the experiences of successful PAs leading projects; (b) strengthen their organizational closure; and (c) lessen their responsibility to carry on important school services. The aim of this study is to analyse the reproductive patterns of the immigrant population and to evaluate their impact on, and implications for, demographic dynamics in Spain. The general hypothesis is that migrant fertility is closely related to the fact and circumstances of migration. Using the 2007 National Immigrant Survey, the results show the existence of a clear fertility pattern. This pattern is characterised by reduced fertility before and during migration, a strong recovery after becoming settled, and a subsequent reduction. The main implication is that this will lead to a significant reduction in migrant fertility, since the inflows have been reduced and the 'recovery' period of the fertility rates of immigrants who arrived before 2007 has passed. The dialogic turn, characteristic of today's complex society, is changing the way how we work in the socio-educational field with people at risk of social exclusion. This change has extended to its research. Latin American immigrant population in Europe, especially women and children, is part of this group. From this principle, the study analyzes the communicative processes of Latin American families in educational areas, reaching six categories of analysis and distinguishing whether these interactions generate exclusionary or transformative dynamics. Moroccan and Spanish cultures have lived side by side in Andalusia for over five centuries, from the time of Al-Andalus. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, with the recent waves of migration brought on by globalisation, a new encounter is taking place in Andalusia between these two cultures from opposite shores of the Mediterranean. In this context, Moroccan families who have settled in Andalusia need to construct their personal identity within very different cultural scenarios from their own. This paper presents a qualitative analysis based on four case study families of Moroccan origin who have taken up residence in Andalusia. This multiple case study seeks to gain an insight into the upbringing practices and values used by parents. This article analyzes the participation of families in the school, inquiring about the specific problems that they can present the foreign families, acting as border elements to effective communication between school, teachers and family. The objectives that responds the article are: 1) analyze the way in which foreign and native families participate in schools, as well as, 2) the activities organized since the centres with the intention of promoting participation. An ethnographic methodological approach, the collection of data has been done in two geographical contexts, Seville and Jaén, in which a case study has been developed in a school of each of the above cities. In the light of the data obtained, stresses that the participation of families in schools not depends directly on the foreignness of the same, but the family interest in education and school and practices and actions implemented since the schools to provide equal access to participation. The context of Special Education is a privileged space to study participation. Most professionals and teachers have long assumed the participation and collaboration with families as a central tenet of their interventions. On the other hand, parents with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) have also been described as being permanently under a ‘constant state of vulnerability’, facing an uncertain future for their children and trapped in a highly professionalised context. This paper discusses how the case of children of immigrant families identified as having SEN further amplifies the contradictions that permeate the labelling and referral processes, whereby the way teachers perceive immigrant parents prompt and justify children’s needs and interventions. The crisis has started a new migration cycle in Spain. As an effect of the restrictive measures taken and the depth of the crisis, migrant inflows have reduced and outflows have increased, the latter especially among Latin Americans. This paper explores the impact of the crisis on migrant people and their families in terms of unemployment, of declining living conditions, and of legal uncertainty. In this situation, a growing minority of immigrants, particularly Latin Americans, implement transnational strategies such as return, circular migration and others. One-parent families in immigration are a phenomenon that has scarcely been explored in Spain, despite the frequency of these forms of household among migrant women, particularly Latin American women who settle in this country. Poverty and single parenthood are two elements that often appear simultaneously in the trajectories of migrant women. The incidence of single parenthood among migrant women from Latin America—specifically Andean and Caribbean countries— resident in Spain will be analyzed in this article. The paper will show how Latin American women have a higher percentage of this type of household. This paper examines forms of entry into single parenthood, and the living conditions of these families once in Spain. It proves that emigrating in single parenthood conditions raises the risk of poverty in Spain. The legal configuration of kinship ties in immigration law is governed by a restrictive logic that combines a dependent and nuclear composition with mismatches in the concrete form of managing the distances, the dynamics and the times at origin and destination. The family model in immigration law has an ideal and dominant approach openly excluding other family realities in the social context. Law in an inherent tendency towards the ideal doesn't allow a legitimate choice between autonomy and individual freedom in order to define or not the family project and own relationships. In this paper I discuss from a critical approach the inconsistencies presented by the current Spanish immigration law to restructure households in the family reunification scheme because of Law doesn't secure a suitable degree of equality and justice. This article presents an analytical approach to the reality of couples with children born in Spain who descend from at least one Romanian parent. It was carried out with the official data included in the Childbirth Statistical Bulletin of the National Statistics Institute. The Romanian community represents the largest contingent of foreign residents in Spain, showing a steady growth since 2000 to the present. For this reason, it is important to learn about the processes of settlement and integration of this population. Romanian immigrants in Spain are usually young people who also marry young people (especially if it's between people of the same nationality) and who reside mainly in Madrid, Valencia, Andalusia and Catalonia. The objective of this research is to study certain aspects which have an impact on the education that sons and daughters of Moroccan immigrants receive in the family environment after immigration and to analyze the socio-educational changes that take place during this process. Data was collected using semi-structured interviews and participant observation, and analyzed using Pearson's chi-squared test. We concluded that education in the homes of Moroccan families is differentiated according to gender, regardless of variables such as provenance (rural-urban) or the educational level of the mother. However, depending on the variable of length of time living in Spain, the process of migration involves both a series of transformations in the women themselves -degree of autonomy, culture shock, the roles of spouses- and in their perceptions of the influence of Western culture on specific aspects of the education of their daughters. International migratory movements tend to produce the reality of divided families that are located in at least two different places. The literature on divided or transnational families and family reunification movements has shown how the socio-demographic determinants in origin and the socio-economic and institutional factors in destination drive these processes. Assuming that migratory movements are the result to a large extent of specifically familial dynamics and strategies, in this paper we are interested in exploring whether other elements associated to the country of origin and to the relationship between country of origin and country of destination have a discernible influence on the family results of migration and, specifically, on the separation and subsequent reunification of the immigrant families. This complex set of elements builds on the playing field where migratory decisions are taken. The Spanish case, characterized by a sudden explosion of international immigration between 2000 and 2007 and significant numbers of Latin American migrants arriving during these years, is a particularly suitable scenario to investigate this phenomenon. This article analyzes the linguistic integration of the second generation of immigrants in Catalonia on the basis of the theory of segmented assimilation. The main objectives are to discover which factors help to determine the preference for the Catalan language (to the detriment of Spanish and the languages of origin) and the acquisition of written skills in Catalan among these young people. The sample comprises 3578 descendants of foreign immigrants aged between 12 and 17. Various multivariable logistic regression models have been carried out on the basis of theoretically relevant predictors. The results of the analysis show that there are different itineraries for linguistic adaptation among the teenage children of immigrants, reflecting a linguistic segmentation. In Europe, several countries are adopting more stringent immigration policies to restrict the number of immigrants crossing their borders. This has affected immigration for the purpose of work and especially of family reunification, where strict subjective and material conditions control its exercise. One of these involves testing the existence of kinship ties. Exceptionally, in cases of doubt or insufficient evidence, DNA testing is allowed. This article offers a critical analysis of the widespread use of genetic testing in family reunification procedures in European countries, especially Spain. On the one hand, its practice has been regulated in the European Aliens Act and on the other hand, particularly in the Spanish case, its possible incompatibility with the protection and guarantees of fundamental rights demanded at international and national levels is highlighted. Different investigations have proved the existence of anxiety and emotional alteration in parents during the hospitalization of a child. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential association between some aspects of family functioning and emotional alterations. It's centred concretely in parents' anxiety during the hospitalization of a child, looking for differences between parents of immigrant and non-immigrant origin. Methods. One hundred and ninety one parents, aged 23 to 53, participatedin the study. All of them had a child hospitalized in pediatric units in hospitals of Andalucia, Spain; Anxiety was measured with the Spanish version of the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and family functioning with the brief Spanish version of the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale (FACES). Results. A better family functioning is significantly associated with lower levels of anxiety in parents during pediatric hospitalization. Immigrant origin parents were found to have considerably higher anxiety, higher family cohesion and also higher adaptability scores. Multiple regression analyses revealed that family cohesion and origin (immigrant/non-immigrant) explain significant variance in the anxiety scores of parents' of hospitalized children. Migration radically changes children's lives, as well as affecting affinities and generational conflicts in Peruvian families, and spheres of exchange and generational meeting between members that had remained distanced, at times during years. The projects of familiar migration are increasingly associated with children's well-being and development. We base this article on a research project on women who emigrate to Spain because they have a romantic relationship with a Spanish man. We discuss partial results in order to demonstrate a unique migratory reality, which can also be approached from a transnational perspective. These women plan their migration and leave their country with the goal of forming a family in the destination country. This personal and individual plan, generally, is unconnected to migratory networks that could provide family or community support. A characteristic of these women's transnationality is their dependent incorporation into the destination country and the denial of their migrant condition, which entails the absence of a plan to return. The article presents research on Moroccan immigration to Andalusia, Spain with a methodological focus on pluralism. A brief history of Moroccan immigration to Spain and Andalusia is presented with laws, statistics, and demographics from the 1980s to 2000s. The research investigates the origins of Moroccan immigrants, their family situations, and reasons for immigrating. Personal profiles of specific immigrants are presented that show a broad range of sociological factors related to Moroccan immigration to Spain, and previous anthropological research on the subject is discussed.

This paper is based on a preliminary exploration of the in-depth interviews and focus groups that are part of a more extensive research project on the education of children of immigrants in Spain. In the process of migration, families undergo profound transformations that are often complicated by extended periods of separation - not only from extended family members, but also from the nuclear family. Though many immigrant families are involved in transnational separation and reunion processes of this kind, there has been little research on the impact of these forms of family transformations on the vision of education held by immigrants. This impact seems to be two-fold. On one hand, family separation and living or work conditions hamper educational support and monitoring; on the other, the experience of migration poses a tremendous faith in the benefits of education and makes families highly motivated in education. The main idea underlying this paper is that an accurate knowledge of the schooling experience of the children of immigrants has to be related to the moral and psychological effects of this adaptive transformation and, in a very special way, to the weave of projects, expectations and frustrations that permeate the life of an immigrant family. The psychosocial consequences of the processes of adjustment and relearning that immigration entails, the need for a comparative perception of success and the willingness to make an effort and work hard make immigrant families strongly meritocratic and - contrary to some common beliefs - able to show a high level of commitment and expectations in relation to the education of their children. This paper analyzes one type of transnational migrant practices, affective and care ties, from a family perspective, including the overlapping of productive and reproductive spheres. It uses a transnational perspective on migration to explore the relationships and practices linking migrants to their societies of origin. To this end, it examines the practices of 'transnational families' in two migrant groups: Peruvian and Ecuadorian migrants living in Spain and their counterparts in their countries of origin.
