Purpose: To assess the level of compliance related to contact lens (CL) wear in university students in Spain., Methods: A web-based questionnaire was distributed to university students through their representatives to assess general demographic information, questions related to CL history, level of compliance with CL care and CL-related complications., Results: A total of 266 participants with an average age of 22 (±4.5) years completed the online questionnaire. Only 39.1 % of respondents indicated that they always replace their CLs within the recommended schedule, and 63.6 % indicated that they usually wear their CLs more hours per day than recommended. Surprisingly, 64.9 % of participants reported that they had not been informed about the potential risks of CL wear, and only 20 % indicated that they always comply with follow-up visits, whereas 42.1 % of respondents expose their CL to water frequently. Participants who received proper CL education were more likely to attend aftercare visits (X 2 (2) = 9.104, p < 0.05). Participants with a longer history of CL wear had a greater tendency to expose their CLs to water (X 2 (6) = 18.768, p < 0.05) and suffer CL-related problems (X 2 (3) = 12.183, p < 0.05). There was also a relationship between an increased frequency of CL exposure to water and an increased tendency to experience CL-related adverse events (X 2 (2) = 10.864, p < 0.05)., Conclusion: A relatively high percentage of university CL wearers displayed some degree of non-compliance, which emphasises the importance of providing accurate and comprehensive CL care guidelines and attending aftercare visits to minimise potential CL-related complications. CL wearers should be provided with clear and unambiguous guidelines to avoid any exposure of CL's and CL cases to water., (Copyright © 2021 British Contact Lens Association. Objective: The European Commission Initiative on Breast Cancer (ECIBC) has developed new recommendations on breast cancer screening and diagnosis. The objective of this work was to adapt these recommendations to Spanish in order to implement and guarantee the quality and success of breast cancer screening programmes (PCCM) throughout the Spanish territory., Methods: The new European Guidelines on Screening and Diagnosis of Breast Cancer have been prepared by a multidisciplinary panel of experts and patients (Guidelines Development Group, GDG). The recommendations inclu-ded are supported by systematic reviews of the evidence conducted by a team of researchers from the Ibero-American Cochrane Center. For its preparation, the European Commission's conflict of interest management rules were applied and the GRADE (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation) methodology was used. The GRADE evidence-to-decision (EtD) frameworks were used to minimize potential influence of interests on the recommendations., Results: As a result of the systematic reviews carried out, the GDG published on the ECIBC website a list of recommendations as part of the guidelines for the screening and diagnosis of breast cancer, which were translated into Spanish in this work., Conclusions: The adaptation to Spanish of the new recommendations helps their implementation and the creation of a uniform PCCM throughout the Spanish territory. All of this improves informed decision making and the success of PCCM.

Salmonellosis is the second most prevalent zoonosis in Europe and it has considerable economic and health implications for its monitoring and control as well as being among the most prevalent pathogens on livestock farms. The wild boar (Sus scrofa) has been identified as a competent host and spreader of Salmonella spp. There has been a significant increase in wild boar population in Europe in recent decades, and it is even present in urban areas. This study evaluates the spatial distribution of the seroprevalence of Salmonella spp. in wild boar from Murcia (Southeast Spain) and its relationship with host-related risk factors (sex, age, location and density). The presence of antibodies against S. Typhimurium and Choleraesuis in 269 serum of wild boars hunted in Murcia between 2015 and 2019 were analyzed using a commercial ELISA test (PrioCHECK porcine Salmonella kit). The seroprevalence were spatially distributed using Kernel function, and wild boar density using Gaussian kernel estimates (spatialEco version 1.1.1). The risk function was estimated as the ratio between the intensity of positive samples and the wild boar density The overall seroprevalence was 19.3% (IC95% 16.9-21.8), showing a significant spatial aggregation. The highest seroprevalence detected was 51.8% (IC95% 42.2-61.5) in a specific area with high risk of infection (76-100%) and was related to the wild boar density. Only marginal differences were detected for sex and age. Objectives: To determine the perceived quality variables related to satisfaction and to identify the influence of sociodemographic factors on user satisfaction with hospital emergencies., Methods: A telephone survey was conducted with a specifically designed questionnaire for use in a sample of 3,600 users of hospital emergency services in nine public hospitals in 2008 and 2009., Results: The adjusted model including all perceived quality and sociodemographic variables explained 47.1% of the variance (adjusted R(2)). Of all the independent variables included, only eight were significant in predicting the level of patient satisfaction. These variables were related to the patient's opinion of the relationship with medical staff (p = 0.041), nurses' and porters' professionalism (p = 0.010 and 0.022), infrastructure (cleanliness and comfort) (p = 0.033 and 0.008), information received at discharge (p = 0.000), waiting time in the emergency department (p = 0.000) and the perception of treatment-diagnosis without failure (p = 0.028)., Conclusions: The variables influencing emergency patients' satisfaction were determined, allowing areas where corrective action could be introduced to be identified. In addition, possible confounding factors that should be controlled for when comparing results among distinct hospitals were identified. Silvicultural thinning usually improves the water status of remaining trees in water-limited forests. We evaluated the usefulness of a dual stable isotope approach (δ¹³C, δ¹⁸O) for comparing the physiological performance of remaining trees between forest stands subjected to two different thinning intensities (moderate versus heavy) in a 60-year-old Pinus halepensis Mill. plantation in semiarid southeastern Spain. We measured bulk leaf δ¹³C and δ¹⁸O, foliar elemental concentrations, stem water content, stem water δ¹⁸O (δ¹⁸O(stem water)), tree ring widths and leaf gas exchange rates to assess the influence of forest stand density on tree performance. Remaining trees in low-density stands (heavily thinned) showed lower leaf δ¹⁸O, and higher stomatal conductance (g(s)), photosynthetic rate and radial growth than those in moderate-density stands (moderately thinned). By contrast, leaf δ¹³C, intrinsic water-use efficiency, foliar elemental concentrations and δ¹⁸O(stem water) were unaffected by stand density. Lower foliar δ¹⁸O in heavily thinned stands reflected higher g(s) of remaining trees due to decreased inter-tree competition for water, whereas higher photosynthetic rate was largely attributable to reduced stomatal limitation to CO₂ uptake. In the present study, a total of 871 farmed fish, 612 gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata L.) and 259 European sea bass (Dicentrarchux labrax L.), were examined for the presence of anisakid larvae. Two diagnostic methods were applied, visual inspection and artificial digestion based on the degradation of fish soft tissue in an acidified pepsin enzyme solution. None of the samples examined in this study contained any anisakid parasite. The results suggest that consumption of these farmed fish species carries a minimal risk of exposure to these nematodes in this region.

To assess the quality of the information included in the minimum basic data set (MBDS) of the eight public hospitals of the Murcia region in order to ascertain what should be improved to be valid and reliable. An external encoder performed a recoding of a random sample of hospital discharges, using the patients hospital records and comparing afterwards the information obtained with the one reflected in the MBDS databases. Quality was assessed using 12 criteria. The reviewed discharges sample consisted at least of 96 cases per hospital (Type I error = 0.05, Type II = 0.10, for the most unfavorable case). A total of 796 cases were reviewed. The MBDS disagreement percentages with the patient record data were higher for the clinical data, with 41.6% for the main diagnosis and 33.5% for the main surgical procedure, being in both cases higher in those hospitals that had used to codify just the discharge record with regard to those that did so with the complete patient record. The variation rate in the diagnosis-related group (DRG) assignment was of 29.6%, and there was a decrease in the case-mix index of 1.07397 when reviewing with the patient record to 1.05555 in the MBDS. Within the administrative data, the highest disagreement rate was for the physician that signs the discharge (60.5%) and the patient's address (31.6%). In many of these assessed aspects there are significant differences between hospitals. A reliability problem was identified in the collected data, which mainly affects the clinical variables. It is therefore advisable to carefully assess the use of this information (both the MBDS directly as well as its grouping through the use of patient classification systems), and the indicators derived from it as its quality is not guaranteed. Systematic assessment and quality control of the MBDS production is advised.
