Abstract

The article discusses a study that examined the protective effects of ligustrazine on gentamicin ototoxicity by determining heat shock protein 70 mRNA and protein expression in the cochlear stria vascularis of guinea pigs. The study was done at the Laboratory of Physiology at the Shenyang Medical College in Shenyang, China. It found that the auditory brainstem response threshold rose and then declined with increased time after drug withdrawal. It is concluded that the drug ameliorated gentamicin ototoxicity.
