There is a socioeconomic hierarchy by people's migration and hukou status in urban migration destinations in China. Children's education determines to a large extent how that hierarchy evolves into the future. Using a sample of 473 children from the Shanghai Urban Neighborhood Survey, we examine how hukou and migration status stratifies parents' educational aspirations for children in big cities in China. Results suggest that "migrant optimism" exists among permanent migrants and temporary migrants with rural hukou in Shanghai. Everything else being equal, both permanent migrants and temporary migrants with rural hukou have higher educational aspirations for children than native parents. Moreover, adjusting for hukou-based differential treatments in the labor market and unequal information access, the difference in educational aspirations for children between native residents and temporary migrants with rural hukou becomes even larger. To the extent that parents' educational aspirations for children are closely linked with children's eventual educational and occupational attainment, these results suggest that children of permanent migrants are likely to maintain their parents' socioeconomic advantages. Children of temporary migrants with rural hukou have great potentials to achieve upward intergenerational mobility. However, given China's hukou-based educational policies, temporary migrants face enormous difficulties in realizing their educational aspirations in destination cities. Introduction: Respiratory dysfunction in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) could present in the early stage and worsen in the late stages. These changes could be a factor affecting the ability of daily living and quality of life of patients with PD. The primary objective of this study was to assess the respiratory function and its association with motor function in patients with different stages of PD. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted at the Huashan Hospital of Fudan University in Shanghai, China. The study included 65 patients diagnosed with PD (the Hoehn and Yahr scale between 1 and 4) and 20 healthy individuals of similar age, gender, weight, and height. The ventilatory function was assessed using the spirometry. Motor function was evaluated using subscale III of the United Parkinson's disease rating scale (UPDRS-III). After confirming the normality of data distribution, we performed one-way ANOVA with a Tukey's post hoc test. Results: Compared with the healthy individuals, there was no statistical significance in forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1), and forced expiratory volume in 1 s/forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC) in the H&Y 1 group and H&Y 2 group (p > 0.05) but reduced peak expiratory flow (PEF) in the H&Y 2 group (p = 0.002). Reduced FVC, FEV1, and PEF was seen in the H&Y 3 group (p = 0.002, p = 0.001, and p = 0.0001, respectively). Reduced FVC, FEV1, PEF, and FEF25–75% was seen in the H&Y 4 group (p = 0.001, p = 0.0001, p = 0.0001, and p = 0.025, respectively). The correlation analysis revealed that there was a significant negative correlation between FVC and UPDRS-III scores (r = −0.248, p = 0.046), disease duration (r = −0.276, p = 0.026), H&Y scale (r = −0.415, p = 0.001). FEV1 was negatively correlated with UPDRS-III scores (r = −0.277, p = 0.025), disease duration (r = −0.291, p = 0.019), H&Y scale (r = −0.434, p = 0.0001). FEF25–75% was negatively correlated with disease duration (r = −0.247, p = 0.047), H&Y scale (r = −0.278, p = 0.025). Conclusion: Our findings revealed that respiratory impairment is present in moderate and advanced PD patients, and directly related to the severity of the disease. Owing to the scarcity of land resources, commitment to sustainable land use is particularly critical to human development and environmental protection. As a characteristic and powerful means for China to deal with the excessive expansion and inefficient use of construction land, construction land reduction (CLR) is performing a significant role in the economic, ecological and social sustainability of land use. Nevertheless, being a product of the new policy, CLR has inevitably encountered multiple barriers in meeting multifaceted sustainability requirements. In order to holistically recognize and effectively manage interactive CLR barriers with limited management resources from a time dimension, this study designs an integrated approach based on qualitative research methods, multi-criteria decision-making and strategic planning matrix for tackling the identification, evaluation and planning of CLR barriers, respectively. From an empirical study of Shanghai's CLR practice, 18 CLR barriers are summarized with their direct and indirect impacts on sustainability assessed. Based on their overall impacts and planning periods, the 18 barriers are categorized into four strategic planning zones corresponding to different types of strategies in a strategic planning matrix. Results indicate that seven barriers (deficient regulations and policies, ineffective implementation of existing regulations and policies, inadequate incentive mechanism, limited funding, contradiction of benefit distribution, incomplete information disclosure, and lack of support from subjects involved) are grouped into the priority zone where all the required resources should be allocated with the highest priority, with three (internal conflicts at all levels of governments, lack of sustainability awareness, and lack of available experience) placed into the long-term zone, requiring a sustained investment of appropriately scaled resources. Research outcomes can provide support for policy makers and practitioners to allocate their resources and efforts to better manage and overcome these CLR barriers for sustainable land use. aims to evaluate the relationship of thyroid function during the first trimester of pregnancy with lipid levels and pregnancy outcomes. Methods: Women who delivered babies at the Shanghai General Hospital between March 2019 and December 2019 with a known pregnancy outcome and complete data were included in the present study (n = 1779). A retrospective cohort study of all subjects with available first-trimester thyroid function testing and lipid levels data was conducted, and the relationship of thyroid function with lipid levels and pregnancy outcomes was evaluated. The data were analyzed using the SPSS software for statistical correlation. Results: The proportion of caesarean sections was higher in women with hypothyroxinemia (HIA) and hypothyroidism than in women with euthyroidism. Hypothyroidism was shown to be related with polyhydramnios, preterm labor and hypertriglyceridemia. HIA was correlated with increased rates of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), preeclampsia, gestational hypertension and hypertriglyceridemia. Compared with the euthyroidism group, the hypothyroidism group had a higher apolipoprotein A1 (Apo A1) level and apolipoprotein B level; the subclinical hypothyroidism group had a higher total cholesterol (TC) level and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol level; the HIA group had higher triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and lower TC, Apo A1 levels. TC levels were positively correlated with the thyroid-stimulating hormone level and negatively correlated with free thyroxine (FT4) level, and free triiodothyronine and FT4 levels were positively correlated with GDM occurrence. Conclusion: Thyroid function in early pregnancy is associated with dyslipidemia and pregnancy outcomes; conventional screening of thyroid diseases in early pregnancy may help improve lipid levels and decrease adverse pregnancy outcomes. As a characteristic new means for China to curb the excessive and disordered expansion of construction land, Construction Land Reduction (CLR) plays a significant role in achieving the sustainable use of land resources in economic, ecological and social terms. However, frequent value conflicts inevitably arise over diverse value appeals of various stakeholders throughout all phases of CLR projects, which has greatly impeded the effective implementation of CLR projects in China. To systematically recognize and strategically coordinate stakeholder value conflicts regarding multidimensional dynamic values under limited management resources and insufficient project experience, this study proposes an integrated SA (stakeholder analysis) - SNA (social network analysis) - TRIZ (theory of inventive problem solving) approach built on a systematic framework for stakeholder value conflict management. An empirical study on Shanghai's CLR projects is conducted to demonstrate the usefulness and effectiveness of the proposed approach. A total of 280 pairs of value conflicts over 53 value appeals of 11 stakeholders are identified during the four phases of CLR projects in the SA-based conflict identification process, with 4 key value appeals and 21 key value conflicts prioritized in the SNA-based criticality evaluation process. Through the TRIZ-based strategy proposal process, 31 targeted coordination strategies are proposed, from which six major managerial and policy implications for CLR can be distilled. Methodologically, this study contributes to conflict management research by providing an integrated SA-SNA-TRIZ approach with a novel systematic methodological framework. The full genomic nucleotide sequence of a previously identified genotype 3 hepatitis E virus (HEV), strain SAAS-JDY5, was obtained using RT-PCR and rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE). The genome consisted of 7225 nucleotides, excluding a poly-A tail at the 3′ terminus, and contained three open reading frames (ORFs), ORF-1, ORF-2 and ORF-3, encoding 1702, 660 and 113 amino acids, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis confirmed that SAAS-JDY5 belonged to genotype 3 HEV and was most closely related to the Japanese isolate wbJYG1 (AB222184). SAAS-JDY5 shared approximately 87% nucleotide similarity to human and swine strains from the United States, compared with 74–75% similarity to Asian (genotype 4) and Mexican strains (genotype 2). Alignment of the SAAS-JDY5 genomic sequence with reference sequences of the same genotype revealed one nucleotide substitution and one deletion at positions 5145 and 7189 (3′ UTR), respectively. Moreover, SAAS-JDY5 contained two additional nucleotides (AC) at the very end of the 3′-terminus preceding the poly-A tail of the genome. Comparison of the putative amino acid sequence encoded by the SAAS-JDY5 genome with sequences of other genotype 3 isolates revealed 15 unique amino acid substitutions and one deletion in ORF-1, and three substitutions in ORF-2. Using the 2013 China Education Panel Survey (CEPS), we study the impact of accessing better schools – a 2008 inclusive education policy through which the central government mandated urban public schools to exempt migrant children from tuition and temporary schooling fees. Whereas the non-disclosure rule regarding geographical location of CEPS sampling units precludes the control of locational characteristics, we identify the causal effect of the policy by exploiting constituent elements of CEPS's primary sampling units. Namely, we only use non-migrant rural hukou children living in counties in the nationally representative sample as the control group (the never-takers), while, in the treatment group, we only include migrant children who are currently living in China's top 120 migrant-receiving counties or city districts, and Shanghai. We also distinguish migrant children who started urban schooling before and after 2008 as separate treatment groups of always-takers and compliers , respectively. Using the Inverse Probability Weighted Regression Adjustment (IPWRA) approach, we find that the average treatment effect of the policy on migrant children is around 0.18 SD, as measured by a standardised cognitive test score – a large effect. We also present complementary evidence that the average treatment effect tends to be larger for municipalities and provincial capitals, consistently with the notion that the (potential) value-added of attending urban schools is higher the larger the initial gap with rural schools. The article reports on the result of the study which assesses the effectiveness of the Job Demand-Control (JDC) and Job Effort-Reward Imbalance (ERI) models in identifying job burnout among employees in Shanghai, China. The study was participated by 1368 employees who were requested to complete a questionnaire and burnout scale on various determinants of job stress, depersonalization, personal accomplishment, and emotional exhaustion. An analysis of the data was examined through the utilization of hierarchically moderated multiple regressions. It reveals that the two models have been effective in assessing job stress. Also, ERI has been an effective model in evaluating emotional exhaustion and depersonalization compared to JDC.

Abstract Background Glutamine addiction is a hallmark of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC); yet whether glutamine metabolism impacts local immune surveillance is unclear. This knowledge may yield novel immunotherapeutic opportunities. Objective To seek a potential therapeutic target in glutamine-addicted ccRCC. Design, setting, and participants Tumors from ccRCC patients from a Shanghai cohort and ccRCC tumor data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) cohort were analyzed. In vivo and in vitro studies were conducted with fresh human ccRCC tumors and murine tumor cells. Outcome measurements and statistical analysis Immune cell numbers and functions were analyzed by flow cytometry. Glutamine and cytokine concentrations were determined. Survival was compared between different subpopulations of patients using Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses. Results and limitations We found that in ccRCC, high interleukin (IL)-23 expression was significantly associated with poor survival in both TCGA (overall survival [OS] hazard ratio [HR] = 2.04, cancer-specific survival [CSS] HR = 2.95; all p < 0.001) and Shanghai (OS HR = 2.07, CSS HR = 3.92; all p < 0.001) cohorts. IL-23 blockade prolongs the survival of tumor-bearing mice, promotes T-cell cytotoxicity in in vitro cultures of human ccRCC tumors, and augments the therapeutic benefits of anti-PD-1 antibodies. Mechanistically, glutamine consumption by ccRCC tumor cells results in the local deprivation of extracellular glutamine, which induces IL-23 secretion by tumor-infiltrating macrophages via the activation of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF1α). IL-23 activates regulatory T-cell proliferation and promotes IL-10 and transforming growth factor β expression, thereby suppressing tumor cell killing by cytotoxic lymphocytes. The positive correlations between glutamine metabolism, IL-23 levels, and Treg responses are confirmed in both TCGA cohort and tumors from Shanghai ccRCC patients. Study limitations include the unclear impacts of glutamine deprivation and IL-23 on other immune cells. Conclusions Macrophage-secreted IL-23 enhanced Treg functions in glutamine-addicted tumors; thus, IL-23 is a promising target for immunotherapy in ccRCC. Patient summary In this study, we analyzed the immune components in glutamine-addicted clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) tumors from two patient cohorts and conducted both in vitro and in vivo studies. We found that ccRCC tumor cell-intrinsic glutamine metabolism orchestrates immune evasion via interleukin (IL)-23, and IL-23–high patients had significantly poorer survival than IL-23–low patients. IL-23 should thus be considered a therapeutic target in ccRCC, either alone or in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors.
