Anisotropic permeability is of great significance for assessing the consolidation and drainage mode of soil layers in reclamation areas, as well as for preventing and controlling ground settlement after project construction. This paper analyzes the anisotropic permeability of the inland and nearshore soil layers in Chongming East Shoal, Shanghai, and the formation mechanism of anisotropic permeability through permeability and scanning electron microscope (SEM) tests. The results highlight that compared with dredger fill and sandy silt, the horizontal permeability coefficient of underlying soft clay (USC) is significantly higher than its vertical permeability coefficient, which is more significant in nearshore USC. Interestingly, the upper clay (21.5 m) in the thickest clay layer shows greater anisotropic permeability than the lower clay (41.5 m). Due to the instability of seepage channels, the USC anisotropic permeability increases in a fluctuating manner as the hydraulic gradient increases. Microstructural parameters are used to reveal the mechanism of anisotropic permeability, which shows that a simple soil skeleton and structure, strong particle orientation, decreased particle abundance, increased particle roundness, decreased particle contact area, and increased pore area all contribute to the enhancement of permeability. Moreover, micro-parameters have been proposed to evaluate anisotropic permeability in terms of the effective seepage-pore area. The COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to over 200 countries and regions. With the unprecedented vaccination scale and speed, vaccination correlated mental health issues should be paid precise attention to. This study aims to assess the association between socio-demographic factors and mental health following vaccination and to analyze the mediation effect of vaccine hesitancy. This study recruited 2112 individuals who took two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in Shanghai. Structural equation modeling was performed to assess factors associated with anxiety and depression of the vaccinated individuals and the underlying mechanism. The results yielded that vaccine hesitancy partially mediated/suppressed the effect from gender and employment status to anxiety/depression and fully mediated the effects from education to anxiety/depression. This study advanced the understanding of mental health disparity among different socio-demographic groups after vaccination and the impact of vaccine hesitancy on the vaccinated population's mental health. The finding offered insights into the possible mental vulnerability of people holding a hesitant attitude before vaccination and suggested that vaccine hesitancy played a crucial role in people's mental health after vaccination. City managers need to understand how land use and land cover (LULC) change in an urban landscape can affect future land degradation and conditions for ecosystem services (ESs) supply and demand. Optimal land use and land management requires explicit spatial mapping of ESs supply and demand under alternative land use scenarios. In this study, we applied spatially explicit models to predict changes in ESs supply and demand, and their coupling mechanisms, under one baseline scenario and three stakeholder‐defined LULC change scenarios (developed, planning, policy) in Shanghai municipality, China. The results suggest that the policy scenario could significantly increase ESs supply and restore degraded urban areas, but would not guarantee that supply meets demand for four key ESs tested: water retention, particulate matter removal, carbon sequestration, and recreation. However, the policy scenario significantly reduced the shortfalls and spatial mismatches in water retention, particulate matter removal and recreation services, and also greatly restored deficit areas for all four ESs. This is valuable scientific evidence that ESs supply and demand information can be incorporated into urban land management planning in a spatially explicit manner, in order to control or prevent future potential land degradation. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection has been reported to be associated with non‐Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). However, the evidence is limited to the seroepidemiological study. There is a lack of evidence showing the HBV infection and integration in NHL cells. Here, we reported that in the Shanghai area, the positive rates of serum HBsAg (OR: 3.11; 95% CI: 2.20‐4.41) and HBeAg (OR: 3.99; 95% CI: 1.73‐9.91) were significantly higher in patients with NHL. HBsAg, HBcAg and HBV DNA were detected in 34.4%, 45.2% and 47.0% of the NHL tissues, respectively. Furthermore, by using a high‐throughput viral integration detection approach (HIVID), integrated HBV DNA was identified from 50% (6/12) HBV‐related NHL tissues. There were a total of 313 HBV integration sites isolated from the NHL tissues, among which four protein‐coding genes (FAT2, SETX, ITGA10 and CD63) were interrupted by HBV DNA in their exons. Seven HBV preferential target genes (ANKS1B, HDAC4, EGFLAM, MAN1C1, XKR6, ZBTB38 and CCDC91) showed significantly altered expression levels in NHL, suggesting a potential role of these genes in NHL development. Taken together, HBV integration is a common phenomenon in NHL. This finding opens up a new direction of research into the mechanistic link between HBV infection and NHL. What's new? Increasing sero‐epidemiological evidence has suggested a significant association between chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and non‐Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). However, whether HBV infects NHL cells is still debated. Here, using a serological, histological, and genetic approach, the authors show that HBV integration is a common phenomenon in NHL. Expression analysis of the HBV preferential target genes identified seven novel candidate genes, which may have potential functions in NHL development. Taken together, the results provide direct evidence that HBV infection is an etiological factor of NHL. To analyze the pollution characteristics of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in organic films on glass surfaces along the urban–rural gradient in Shanghai, 35 organic film samples were collected in March 2014, and the PAHs were quantitatively analyzed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). The results showed that the average thicknesses of the organic films were in the order of urban > rural > suburban. In urban areas, the PAH concentration in organic films on glass surfaces (5592 ng/m2) was much higher than that in films from suburban (2313 ng/m2) and rural (2306 ng/m2) areas. T-PAHs (total concentration of 16 PAH monomers) and BghiP showed a good positive correlation, indicating that automobile exhaust emissions greatly contribute to the PAH concentration in the organic films. The PAH monomers were mostly Phe, Fl, Pyr, and Chry in urban, suburban, and rural areas. The BaA/Chry ratio was not suitable for determining the migration distance of PAHs, and it is necessary to further study the degradation mechanism of PAHs in organic films on glass surfaces. Straw burning greatly influences the PAH concentration in rural areas. The average TEQ concentrations in urban, suburban, and rural areas were 781 ng/g, 258 ng/g, and 211 ng/g, respectively. To determine the rate of human papillomavirus (HPV) persistence after surgery in patients with cervical cancer, and to analyze the factors associated with HPV persistence and viral load after surgery. Medical records of women who underwent surgery for treatment of cervical cancer between 1 January 2018 and 30 June 2019 at Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University in Shanghai, China, were retrospectively analyzed. Patients with persistent HPV infection after 2 years of follow-up were identified. Univariate and multivariate analyses were employed to determine the impact of various factors including patient age, menopausal status, parity, and surgical margin status on HPV persistence. The Wilcoxon test was used to analyze the factors that influenced postoperative HPV viral load. Altogether, 607 women were eligible for the final analysis. The persistence rates of HPV at 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years after surgery were 17.3, 13.7, and 10.2 %, respectively. In univariate analysis, the factors that were predictive of the persistence of HPV infection were old age, postmenopausal status, and positive vaginal incision margin with cancer. In multivariate analysis, the significant independent predictive factors were postmenopausal status and positive vaginal incision margin with cancer (P < 0.05, odds ratio (OR) = 2.289, 95 % confidence interval (CI): 1.262–4.150 and OR = 3.271, 95 % CI: 1.253–8.537, respectively). A vaginal lesion with cancer or squamous intraepithelial lesion (SIL) and positive vaginal incision margin influenced HPV viral load at 6 months after surgery (P < 0.05). Postmenopausal patients and those with positive vaginal incision margin with cancer are at an increased risk of HPV persistence after surgical treatment for cervical cancer. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were studied in dry and wet deposition samples collected at urban and suburban sites of Shanghai, China from April 2014 to April 2015. Average wet deposition fluxes of PAHs were higher than dry deposition (62.6 ± 41.5 vs. 26.9 ± 14.4 μg/m 2 /day). However, dry deposition removed more PAHs than wet deposition (69% vs. 31%) due to much shorter durations of wet deposition. The highest dry and wet deposition fluxes were in fall and winter, respectively. The highest amount of dry deposition was in fall and the highest of wet deposition was in summer. The contribution of wet deposition to total deposited PAHs in Shanghai, East China was higher than that in northern China and lower than that in southern China. The difference can be explained by both precipitation amount and removal efficiency (washout ratio). Average dry deposition velocity and washout ratio of particle-associated PAHs were 5.2 cm/s and 5.8 × 10 4 , respectively. Four sources of deposited PAHs were unraveled by positive matrix factorization (PMF) model: traffic, coal combustion, coking and volatilization, contributing 28.7%, 24.6%, 23.7% and 23.0%, respectively. More contribution of traffic and less coal combustion and volatilization were found at urban than at suburban site. As the connection between aerosol and surface soil, deposition had a different PAH composition from those in the two sides, containing more low MW PAHs. That arose the concern that dry deposition velocity and particle washout ratio could be overestimated if coarse particulate matter was excluded from the calculation. Although deposition has been considered as the predominant pathway of PAHs to urban surface system, the PAH composition in street dust differed drastically from that in deposition. Abstract: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were studied in 230 daily fine particulate matter (PM2.5) samples collected in four seasons at urban and suburban sites of Shanghai, China. This study focused on the emission sources of PAHs and its dynamic results under different weather conditions and pollution levels and also emphasized on the spatial sources of PM2.5 and PAHs at a regional level. Annual concentrations of PM2.5 and 16 EPA priority PAHs were 53 μg/m 3 and 6.9 ng/m 3 , respectively, with highest levels in winter. Positive matrix factorization (PMF) modeling identified four sources of PAHs: coal combustion, traffic, volatilization and biomass combustion, and coking, with contributions of 34.9%, 27.5%, 21.1% and 16.5%, respectively. The contribution of traffic, a local-indicative source, increased from 17.4% to 28.7% when wind speed changed from >2m/s to <2m/s, and increased from 18.3% to 31.3% when daily PAH concentrations changed from below to above the annual mean values. This indicated that local sources may have larger contributions under stagnant weather when poorer dispersion conditions and lower wind speed led to the accumulation of local-emitted pollutants. The trajectory clustering and potential source contribution function (PSCF) and concentration weighted trajectory (CWT) models showed clearly that air parcels moved from west had highest concentrations of PM2.5, total PAHs and high molecular weight (HMW) PAHs. While small differences were found among all five clusters in low molecular weight (LMW) PAHs. Sector analyses determined that regional transport source contributed 39.8% to annual PM2.5 and 52.5% to PAHs, mainly from western regions and varying with seasons. Black carbon (BC) in soils plays a key role of carrying hydrophobic pollutants like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). However, little is known about the spatial distribution, sources of BC and its relationship with PAHs in urban soils. We studied BC, total organic carbon (TOC) and PAHs concurrently in 77 soils collected from downtown area, suburban and rural area and industrial area of Shanghai, China. BC was determined by both chemical oxidation (dichromate oxidation, BCCr) and chemo-thermal oxidation (CTO-375, BCCTO). BC sources were identified qualitatively by BC/TOC concentration ratios and BC-cogenerated high molecular weight (HMW) PAH isomer ratios and quantitatively by principal component analysis followed by multiple linear regression (PCA-MLR). Results showed that BCCr concentration (4.65g/kg on average) was significantly higher than BCCTO (1.91g/kg on average) in Shanghai soils. BCCr concentrations in industrial area were significantly higher than those in other two. Stronger correlation was found between PAHs and TOC, BCCr than that between PAHs and BCCTO, which indicates the possibility of PAHs being carried by charcoal and other organic matters thus negating its exclusive dependence on soot. Charcoal was therefore suggested to be taken into account in studies of BC and its sorption of PAHs. BC/TOC ratios showed a mixed source of biomass burning and fossil fuel combustion. PCA scores of BC-cogenerated HMW PAHs isomer ratios in potential sources and soil samples clearly demonstrated that sources of BC in urban soils may fall into two categories: coal and biomass combustion, and traffic (oil combustion and tire wear). PCA-MLR of HMW PAHs concentrations in soil samples indicated that coal and oil combustion had the largest contribution to BC in urban soils while tire wear and biomass combustion were important in downtown and rural area, respectively, which indicated they were main sources of HMW PAHs and presumably of BC. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) concentrations were analysed in the organic film on the glass surfaces of different functional areas in central Shanghai. Concentration levels of total PAHs in the organic film ranged from 1,348.5 to 4,007.9 ng m. The concentration of PAHs was lowest in parks and green spaces (1,348.5 ng m) and highest in traffic zones (4,007.9 ng m). A concentration gradient of total PAHs was observed as follows: traffic zones > commercial areas > cultural and educational areas > parks and green spaces. The distribution of PAHs was characterised by 3-4 ring PAHs in the study areas. The most abundant PAHs were phenanthrene (20.5 %), fluorene (16.7 %), pyrene (12.4 %) and chrysene (Chry) (11.2 %). The mass of the bulk film was composed of organic and inorganic compounds and ranged from 246 to 1,288 mg m. The bulk film thickness varied from 144 to 757 nm in the different functional areas. The ratios of An/178 and Fl/202 and principal component analysis suggested that PAHs came mainly from the mixed sources of fossil fuel, coal and incomplete combustion of biomass. Benzo[a]anthracene (BaA)/Chry is not suitable for use as a tracer for the transmission process of PAHs because of the rapid depletion of BaA in the organic film by photooxidation during daylight hours. The concentration of benzo[a]pyrene equivalent (BaPeq) varied from 21 to 701 ng g, and the major carcinogenic contributors of the 16 PAHs were BaP, DahA, B[b/k]F and InP, accounting for 83 % of BaPeq. Land reclamation has been increasingly employed in many coastal cities to resolve issues associated with land scarcity and natural hazards. Especially, land subsidence is a non-negligible environmental geological problem in reclamation areas, which is essentially caused by soil consolidation. However, spatial-scale evaluation on the average degree of consolidation (ADC) of soil layers and the effects of soil consolidation on land subsidence have rarely been reported. This study aims to carry out the integrated analysis on soil consolidation and subsidence mechanism in Chongming East Shoal (CES) reclamation area, Shanghai, at spatial-, macro-, and micro-scale so that appropriate guides can be provided to resist the potential environmental hazards. The interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) technique was utilized to retrieve the settlement curves of the selected onshore (Ra) and offshore (Rb) areas. Then, the hyperbolic (HP) model and three-point modified exponential (TME) model were combined applied to predict the ultimate settlement and to determine the range of ADC rather than a single pattern. With two boreholes Ba and Bb set within Ra and Rb, conventional tests, MIP test, and SEM test were conducted on the collected undisturbed soil to clarify the geological features of exposed soil layers and the micro-scale pore and structure characteristics of representative compression layer. The preliminary results showed that the ADC in Rb (93.1–94.1%) was considerably higher than that in Ra (60.8–78.7%); the clay layer was distinguished as the representative compression layer; on micro-scale, the poor permeability conditions contributed to the low consolidation efficiency and slight subsidence in Rb, although there was more compression space. During urbanization, the offshore area may suffer from potential subsidence when it is subjected to an increasing ground load, which requires special attention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, we deal with the dynamic relationship between return and three liquidity risks proposed by Acharya and Pedersen and systematic risk variables in Shanghai Stock Markets, by applying the dynamic conditional correlation multivariate GARCH (DCC - MVGARCH) proposed by Engle and the method of vector auto - regression (VAR). The findings suggest that systematic risk premium and liquidity risk premium exist in Shanghai Stock Markets. With the development of the economy, land reclamation, as a result of dredged soil, has become an effective measure to alleviate land scarcity in many coastal cities around the world. Chongming East Shoal (CES), a typical reclamation area in Shanghai that is formed by multi-phase reclamation projects, was selected as the study area. The small baseline subset–interferometry synthetic aperture radar (SBAS-InSAR) method was applied to derive the map of velocity distribution and accumulated deformation with 70 Sentinel-1 synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images collected from 22 March 2015 to 2 December 2019. In addition, 25 undisturbed soil samples, including dredger fill and underlying soil layers, were collected from five boreholes (maximum depth 55 m) through a field investigation. Laboratory tests were then performed on all soil samples in order to facilitate an understanding of geological features, including the measurement of basic physical properties, cation exchange capacity, compressibility, microscale structure, and pores. The present results show that the whole CES was undergoing differential ground deformation, with a velocity ranging from −47.5 to 34.6 mm/y. Fast (−3.4 mm/y) to slow (−0.3 mm/y) mean subsidence velocities were detected in multi-phase reclamation areas from inland areas to the coastline, and were controlled by building load and geological features of soil layers. Urbanization is the main factor that triggers accelerated subsidence and should receive special attention for reclamation areas that have been finished for a long time (over 20 years in this study). The geological features indicated that poor drainage conditions in offshore soil layers resulted in slow subsidence. • The co-parenting of grandparents and parents had a negative effect on children's creativity. • Children growing up in the three-generation families had lower creativity than those from families living without grandparents. • Compared with girls, boys raised in the three-generation families were more likely to show disadvantages in creativity development. • Only children overall showed significantly higher creativity than children with siblings. • Only children's advantage was more salient for those raised in nuclear families than in three-generation families. It is not uncommon in China that children are raised by both parents and grandparents in an extended family. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of three-generational families on Chinese children's creativity. A sample of 1710 elementary school students aged 6–13 was drawn from two schools in urban districts of Shanghai. Participants' creativity was measured by the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking-Figural (TTCT-Figural) and Alternate Uses tasks (AUT) and their family demographic information was obtained from parents' report. The results indicated that (1) the co-parenting of grandparents and parents had a negative effect on children's creativity; (2) children growing up in the three-generation families, particularly in the grandparents-headed families, had lower creativity than those from families living without grandparents; (3) compared with girls, boys raised in the three-generation families were more likely to show disadvantages in creativity development; (4) only children overall showed significantly higher creativity than children with siblings, but this advantage was more salient for only children raised in nuclear families than in three-generation families. These results are explained on the basis of parental investment theory. We further conclude that the quality of cognitive and interpersonal resources in a family, such as intellectual stimulation and general encouragement, matter more than the simple accumulation of family resources in predicting children's creativity. This paper studies the impact of fundamental macroeconomic news on stock market return and its volatility by constructing indicators which measure unexpected components of 7 macro announcements series. We find that the monthly returns of stock markets are a hedge against inflation, and PPI, fixed investment, money supply (M2) significantly affect the returns of stock markets, moreover the trade surplus has significant effect on the volatility of stock market returns. We also find daily stock market returns response the macroeconomic announcements differently. For Shanghai stock market, CPI, fixed investment and importation affect the returns of Shanghai Composite Index, and export variable influences both its return and volatility. Shenzhen stock market only has a response to the exportation information. In addition, there are significant structure change in above relationship in the post crisis. Among all macro information variables, only PMI and trade variables strongly affect the market returns, while PPI is significantly related to their volatility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To evaluate operative and nonoperative therapies for cesarean scar defects (CSDs).Methods: A prospective study was conducted among patients who underwent treatment of CSDs at a hospital in Shanghai, China, between April 1, 2010, and December 31, 2014. Treatment included laparoscopy (group 1), vaginal surgery (group 2), hysteroscopy (group 3), combined oral contraceptives (group 4), and the levonorgestrel intrauterine system (group 5).Results: Among 142 participants, 119 patients underwent surgical repair and 23 received nonsurgical (conservative) treatment. Operation time, blood loss, and length of hospital stay reported for patients in group 3 (n=19) were all lower than those reported for patients in group 1 (n=86) and group 2 (n=14; P<0.001 for all comparisons). Patients who underwent surgery and those in group 4 (n=18) experienced shortened menstrual periods after treatment (P<0.001 for all comparisons). For group 5 (n=5), the duration of menstruation was similar before and after therapy (P=0.89). All 32 women who desired fertility underwent laparoscopy; 12 (37.5%) became pregnant after this procedure.Conclusion: All treatments for CSDs other than the levonorgestrel intrauterine system shortened menstrual periods. • CT was applied to various types of soil that were collected in a reclamation area. • The coefficient of variation-based results showed the soil heterogeneity. • The averaged Hu was correlated with the physical properties and compressibility. • The averaged Hu values reflected the relative amount of soil particles and water. Nowadays, land reclamation by dredged soil has become an effective solution to the growing demand for land resources in coastal areas. However, the widespread dredger fill (artificial deposits in reclamation area) can compress the underlying soil layers, causing different degrees of land subsidence and posing a threat to infrastructure in relation to agriculture. Therefore, it is necessary to facilitate an understanding of the physical properties and compressibility of soil in the reclamation area. X-ray computed tomography (CT), as a non-destructive method, can provide insight into the structure of soil. In this paper, 44 undisturbed soil samples comprised of dredger fill, sandy silt, muddy clay, clay, and silty clay, were collected from ten 55 m deep boreholes in Chongming East Shoal reclamation area in Shanghai. CT and conventional tests were conducted on all soils. The coefficient of variation of the scanning-slice-related standard deviation was used to evaluate the soil heterogeneity, which reflects the spatial variability of the arrangement of soil particles. The results indicated that the slice-related coefficient of variation had a reliable capacity to evaluate the soil heterogeneity; the averaged Hounsfield (AHu) values of the soil sample had a significant statistical correlation with the conventional-test-derived physical properties (wet bulk density, dry bulk density, gravimetric water content, and porosity). The AHu values essentially reflected the relative amounts of soil particles and water in saturated soil. The granulometric compositions that can lead to denser arrangements of soil particles tended to have higher Hu values. A linear relationship was also found between AHu values and the compression index, which may help to predict the compressibility of the soil. • Ecological redline monitoring framework was developed. • 'Space-Sky-Ground' integrated monitoring network was suggested. • New insights on integrating ecological monitoring into management was provided. Ecological monitoring (EM) is a significant scientific topic recognized for its potential for providing basic, but vital, data for ecosystem assessment to address sustainability issues. However, a monitoring framework that can lead to EM information and data being used accurately in ecosystem management and policy design is currently lacking. China's Ecological Redline Policy (ERP), one of the first national policies utilizing multiple ecosystem service assessment, requires strict monitoring to reveal policy effects on ecosystem services regulation. In this study, we developed a transdisciplinary framework to build up the ecological redline monitoring network in Shanghai metropolitan area, using: biodiversity, landscape structure, ecosystem function, and stakeholder opinions. We suggest that standard monitoring be based on remote sensing monitoring, supplemented by ground truth monitoring, to form a standard 'Space-Sky-Ground' integrated monitoring network.
