The article looks at Serbian women teachers and writers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Particular focused is given to the prejudices faced by women teachers and writers and to their relationships with male editors and writers. Details on the role of education in women's emancipation are presented. The author also discusses the relationship between ideology and cultural memory.
