The article discusses the story of a fratricide in Loch Tollaidh in Scotland. The article describes how in 1480 a dispute over land rights and the family inheritance led two younger brothers to kill their elder brother and his sons. The veracity of the oral tradition in regard to the story is discussed, along with archaeological surveys of crannogs along the coastline of the island.

The author explores the facts and legends surrounding Iain "Dall" MacAoidh, also known as John Mackay, the "Blind" piper of the Mackenzies of Gairloch. He was born in Talladale in 1656 and died in 1754 at age 98 in Gairloch. He became blind as a result of childhood smallpox and studied on the Isle of Skye with piper MacCrimmon. Only about twelve of his pibroch still exist, including "The Unjust Incarceration."
