This is a cross-sectional study that was conducted to explore readiness with regard to the sudden shift towards emergency remote teaching and its correlation with perceived effectiveness, satisfaction, anxiety and attitudes among instructors in Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University (PNU) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. Data were gathered using an online questionnaire on readiness and perceptions of effectiveness, attitudes and satisfaction relating to the emergency remote teaching, as well as the anxiety resulting from it. Pearson's test was performed to assess the correlations between different parameters. The results of the study showed that readiness in terms of emergency remote teaching was high, at 44.9% among instructors, while 64.8% of them scored moderately regarding their perception of the emergency remote teaching's effectiveness. A positive attitude towards emergency remote teaching was reported by 18.5% of the instructors, although a high level of satisfaction was observed in 79.6% of the cases, and 38.7% showed no anxiety. A positive and significant correlation was obtained between a readiness to shift to emergency remote teaching and perceived effectiveness, attitudes and satisfaction (r = 0.2 and p < 0.01); however, anxiety showed a significant moderate negative correlation with perceived effectiveness (r = -0.35) p < 0.01, attitudes (r = -0.33) p < 0.01 and satisfaction (r = -0.44), p < 0.01. In conclusion, instructors at PNU were ready to provide emergency remote teaching, which led to high perceived effectiveness and levels of satisfaction, while the high level of anxiety could be attributed to stressful circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: Beginning in 2019, the Saudi Government required restaurants to post caloric information on menus to facilitate informed meal choices by Saudi consumers. Purpose: To assess the impact on consumer food choices, leveraging TPB, related to caloric information on menus among restaurants in Saudi Arabia. Methods: A cross-sectional study among adult Saudi consumers was conducted. Theoretically based on TPB, data were gathered on the use of caloric information on menus in restaurants across Riyadh. Results: Only 24.4% of participants utilized caloric information on menus to make a meal decision. "Attitude" (r = 0.65), and "perceived behavioral control" (r = 0.62) significantly correlated with "intention." Multiple regression analysis showed that "attitude" (R[superscript 2] = 0.47, P = 0.05), and "perceived behavioral control" (R[superscript 2] = 0.11, P = 0.03) were significant predictors of using caloric information on menus for meal selection. Discussion: Among Saudi participants, the use of caloric information on menus was low in their meal decision. Interestingly, "attitude" was found to be a significant predictor of utilizing caloric information in making a meal decision. Translation to Health Education Practice: Consumer education should consider constructs of the TPB in intervention development and evaluation strategies to influence attitudes toward healthy eating behaviors and enhance the use of caloric information on restaurant menus in making informed meal decisions.

Objectives: This study assessed the stigmatisation of obesity among a sample of the general population in Riyadh and its association with the perception of controllability. Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during January--February 2021. The data were collected through a selfadministrated online questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using John's Macintosh Project, Version 16.0.0. Results: A total of 525 participants were recruited via convenience sampling. The majority of the participants exhibited a low level of stigma towards obesity (72.8%), and gender and BMI were significantly associated with the level of stigma (P = 0.0023 and 0.0360, respectively). The association between the perception of controllable factors and the level of stigma was also significant (P = 0.0001). Conclusion: A significant association was found between the stigmatisation of obesity and the perception of controllability among the general population in Riyadh. Recommendations should be based on joint international consensus statements for ending obesity stigmatisation in different settings and categories; healthcare service providers and obese patients should be educated on the relationships demonstrated in these findings. Aim: To measure the factors influencing on the adoption of antenatal care conversation mapping among health care providers in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), using the diffusion innovation theory. Methods: 88 healthcare providers (Riyadh) were recruited using a non-probability convenient sampling technique were trained on how to use a newly developed antenatal care conversation map. Data was collected by self-administrated questionnaire on health education services, adoption of conversation map and diffusion of innovation variables. The JMP statistical software from SAS version 14 was used to perform data analysis. Results: Printable tools were most common as used by 72.7% of participants and 83.0% of them did not hear about conversation map. The total mean score of diffusion of innovation variables showed was in general high. The total mean score of relative advantage and observability was high in participants aged between 40 to less than 50 years, while the total mean score of compatibility, complexity, and trialability was high in participants aged from 50 years and more. Significant differences were obtained in both compatibility and trialability considering the health educators specialty, p = 0.03 and p = 0.027 respectively. The linear correlations between diffusion of innovation variables was significantly positive (p-value <0.01). Conclusion: All of diffusion of innovation variables were positive as per the opinion of the participants. Applying the conversation map on other health topics in Saudi Arabia and other Arabic-speaking countries is warranted. A policy that mandates posting calorie information on monitors and printed menus in restaurants was implemented in Saudi Arabia in 2018. This may help consumers make healthier decisions. This study assessed the level of awareness regarding calorie labeling on menus and its association with restaurant food choices among Saudi university students. A cross-sectional study was conducted using 400 female Saudi students at Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University (PNU), Riyadh. Pregnant or lactating students or those who had any dietary restrictions were excluded. An online self-administered questionnaire regarding demographic characteristics, awareness of calorie labeling, and restaurant food choiceswere used. Pearson's and Ma Nemar's chi-square tests, the odds ratio, and multivariate binary logistic regression were used in the analysis. While 73.5% of the students noticed the calorie labeling on the restaurant's menus, only 24% of students read it carefully. No statistically significant association was observed between the awareness of calorie labeling and food selection. Comparing good versus poor awareness about labels, 67.7% versus 49% of participants change their food selections based on the calorie information on the menus (p<0.0007), and 77.8% versus 22.2% select items with fewer calories (p<0.001). Calorie labeling may be an effective method for improving food choices among those who have an awareness of such and use calorie information. Nevertheless, public health education campaigns are needed to increase awareness of calorie requirements and the value of calorie labelingon restaurant menus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Herbal treatments are commonly used by Saudi women during pregnancy. However, the inappropriate use of some herbs can have side-effects for both the mother and the fetus. Thus, a comprehensive understanding of their use during pregnancy is crucial. This study aimed to explore the use of herbal treatments by Saudi women during pregnancy using the knowledge-attitude-practice model. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2019 and April 2020 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on a convenience sample using an online Arabic-language questionnaire. Saudi women aged between 18-58 years who were pregnant or had been pregnant and were living in the Riyadh were included. Results: A total of 400 individuals participated in this study. All participants lacked knowledge about the side-effects of herbal treatment but 63% knew about unsafe herbs in general. Most participants (66%) had a neutral attitude towards herbal treatments. Almost half of the participants (48%) did not use herbs during pregnancy and a similar number (47%) sometimes used herbal treatments during pregnancy. There was a significant positive correlation between attitude and practice and a negative correlation between knowledge and attitude as well as between knowledge and practice (P <0.0001 each). Conclusion: While the participants' knowledge were generally poor, their attitudes and practices regarding the use of herbal treatments during pregnancy were good. It is recommended that more efforts be made by healthcare providers to target attitudes towards herbal treatments by providing accurate knowledge and reinforcing healthy practices among Saudi women. Although sweetened soft drink consumption (SDC) has negative consequences on health, this dietary habit is common among the Saudi population (Saudi Arabia). Food selection and consumption are complex behaviors and associated with several constructs described by social cognitive theory. This study assessed the pattern of sweetened SDC and its associated behavioral and theoretical factors, with focus on attitude and expectations related to SDC among Saudi women. Participants (n = 773) answered an online questionnaire on SDC patterns (frequency of consumption and quantity) and attitudes influencing those patterns. Association of attitudes with frequency of sweetened SDC was assessed using Spearman's test that revealed a positive and significant association between frequency and quantity of SDC (Spearman's rho = 0.34, df = 771, p < .0001). Highest correlations were observed between frequency of consumption and positive attitudes toward the perception of sweetened soft drinks as indispensable while eating, enjoyable, and value indispensable during social gathering (Spearman's rho = 0.58, 0.55 and 0.40, respectively, df = 771, p < .0001). Multiple regression analysis of attitudes showed considering soft drinks enjoyable and essential at eating were positively associated with consumption. Saudi Women are consuming soft drinks at high rates despite self-reporting this behavior as unhealthy. Social cognitive factors could potentially be predictors of unhealthy dietary behaviors among Saudi women. Designing nutrition education campaigns and culture-tailored information is warranted. Background: Sweetened soft drinks consumption contributes to the increasing prevalence of obesity in Saudi Arabia. In 2017, Saudi Arabia began imposing tax on sugar-sweetened drinks to combat obesity., Aim: To investigate the determinants of soft drinks consumption patterns among adults in Saudi Arabia 5 years after consumer tax implementation., Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 1935 adults in Saudi Arabia, aged 20-60 years, predominantly female (80.4%). Data were collected using an online questionnaire that focused on the sociodemographic and anthropometric characteristics and consumption patterns of participants, as well as their attitudes towards soft drink consumption. Spearman's correlation and principal component analysis were used to evaluate the factors influencing soft drink consumption. Statistical significance was set at P < 0.05., Results: A significant majority of the participants (82.9%, n = 1605) reported consuming sweetened soft drinks 1-3 times per month. Habitual consumption was the most cited reason (27.1%), followed by consumption at social gatherings (12.9%) and while eating at restaurants (12.4%). Advertising was the least (7.1%) consumption influencing factor. Correlation analysis revealed that availability (0.358, P < 0.05), social gatherings (0.357, P < 0.05) and affordability (0.336, P < 0.05) were significantly associated with consumption frequency., Conclusion: Despite increased taxes on soft drinks in Saudi Arabia, consumption remains largely habitual among adults.
