Introduction: Sucrose is an evidence-based intervention used for short-term pain management and distress from minor procedures. Limited research exists on nurses' knowledge and use of sucrose in Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Saudi Arabia. Objective: To assess nurses' knowledge and use of sucrose in Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Saudi Arabia. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was used to collect data from a convenience sample of 68 neonatal intensive care nurses in Saudi Arabia. A modified tool assessed the knowledge and use of sucrose. Logistic regression analysis was used to find the predictors for sucrose use. Results: Most respondents never used sucrose for neonatal pain management and did not receive any training on sucrose. The mean knowledge of nurses regarding sucrose and its use was very low (38%): 16% had a high level of knowledge regarding sucrose, 13% moderate, 19% low, and 52% very low. Nurses who received training on sucrose use and nurses who read or heard about sucrose predicted the use of sucrose. Conclusion: Nurses' knowledge and use of sucrose were inadequate. Interventional programs are needed to enhance the nurses' knowledge regarding sucrose and its use and to enhance the utilization of sucrose as a pain management intervention in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Saudi Arabia. Objectives: To evaluate the level of public awareness regarding cervical spine injuries among adult residents of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out between June and November 2020. It involved structured questionnaires, collecting information on participant socio-demographic characteristics, first responder training status, and the awareness of cervical spine trauma and suitable first aid response. Results: A total of 4914 respondents (age, 31.6 ± 11.8 years) completed the survey. Most participants (75.2%) reported road traffic accidents as a risk factor for cervical spine injury. Moreover, 79.4% of the participants reported that cervical spine injury may be accompanied by damage to the spinal cord. Motor and sensory disability, and trouble breathing were recognized as complications associated with cervical spine injuries by 52.1%, 39%, and 28.8% of the participants, respectively. Fewer than one in 3 participants was aware of cervical spine trauma or the suitable first aid response. Conclusion: Public awareness regarding cervical spine trauma is poor among the KSA residents, although most study participants were aware trauma victims should be immobilized at the site of the accident until the arrival of an emergency response team. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between Internet addiction (IA), psychological distress, and coping strategies. Methods: Data were collected using a convenience sample of 163 student nurses. Findings: The results showed that there was high prevalence rate of IA among students. In addition, the use of avoidance and problem‐solving coping mechanism was statistically significant among the IA group compared with the non‐IA group (P <.05). This was associated with a more negative impact on psychological distress and self‐efficacy (P <.05). Conclusions: IA is an increasing problem in the general population and among university students. It can affect many aspects of a student life. Practical Implications: The results will raise awareness of the deleterious effects of IA on a wide range of student life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Clinical instructors are the key mediators in helping students conquer clinical experiences by preparing them for clinical workplaces. The caring behavior of instructors plays an important role in the instructor‐student relationship. Objective: This study aimed to (a) assess the perception of nursing students of clinical instructors' caring behavior and (b) explore the correlation between their perception of instructors' caring behavior and their self‐efficacy. Design: A quantitative descriptive correlation design was adopted. Setting: The sample was collected from the faculty of nursing at a major governmental university for females in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Participants: A sample of nursing students (N = 200) was recruited. Methods: The data were collected using the inventory for nursing students' perceptions of instructor caring (NSPIC) and general self‐efficacy (GSE) scale. Descriptive and inferential statistics, such as Pearson r correlation and regression analysis, were used. Results: The total mean of NSPIC was moderate to high (mean = 3.06, SD = 1.04). The level of GSE among students was high (mean = 3.45, SD = 0.849). NSPIC is significantly correlated with its GSE (r =.282). In addition, GSE turned out to be a major indicator of caring behavior, with P =.021 and R2 = 0.642. Conclusion: Caring relationships between clinical instructors and nursing students enable students to grow as caring professionals. Therefore, nursing programs must have highly qualified clinical instructors to teach and train students and be a good role model in the workplace. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the study was to investigate the prevalence and risk indicators of depression in undergraduate students of health-related specialties. A systematic random sample of 398 students from seven health colleges was included. The assessment tool was a self-reported questionnaire based on Becks Depression Inventory (BDI). Participant status was categorized into Absence (BDI = 0–13) or Presence (BDI = 14–60) of depression. Data analyses included descriptive statistics, bivariate analysis, and stepwise logistic regression. About 45% of students reported having mild-to-severe depression. The significant risk indicators for depression were: gender, recent loss of family members, type of study, year of study, presence of psychological illnesses, social life, satisfaction with each of the following: the specialty, teaching staff, college facilities. The regression model showed the following factors to remain significantly related to depression: presence of psychological illness, social life style, recent loss of family member, and satisfaction with teaching staff. In conclusion, a significant number of undergraduate students have depression. This study indicates the need to support this group of students by the community and the university administration. Students' academic and social advisers' roles are recommended to be more effective. Teaching staff are recommended to have their teaching and communication skills enhanced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study examines the knowledge, attitudes, and practice of psychiatric nurses towards the use of physical restraint in Saudi Arabia. Design and Methods: Descriptive explanatory cross‐sectional design, 101 participants were invited to complete a set of questionnaires to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice towards the use of physical restraint. Findings: Participants had a moderate knowledge and attitude as well as practice in using physical restraint. Less than half reported that they recognized alternative approaches to physical restraint and most of them did not understand the reasons for the restraint. Practice Implications: This study highlights some important misunderstandings of nurses about using physical restraint. Objective: To assess the level of job satisfaction among the dental workforce in the National Guard Health Affairs (NGHA) in Saudi Arabia and to explore any predictors that have impact on the level of satisfaction. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study targeted dentists, dental assistants, dental hygienists, and dental lab technicians who are workers for the NGHA. A cluster random sampling procedure was conducted from seven dental centers. Data were collected through a self-reported questionnaire that was previously published. Satisfaction questions were related to (a) professional and personal life, (b) income and job security, (c) quality of service, and (d) prestige and self-perception domains. Data analysis included frequency distributions, and a comparison of mean using t-test was conducted using SPSS software. Results: The response rate was 55.5%. The mean satisfaction score was 65.7 out of 112 (2.9 out of 5). Of the four domains pertaining to job satisfactions, the highest mean score was obtained for quality of service (4.2 out of 5), followed by prestige and self-perception (2.8 out of 5), professional and personal life (2.8 out of 5), and income and job security (2.6 out of 5). Non-Saudis were found to be significantly more satisfied in professional and personal life; however, Saudi dentists were more satisfied for income and job security and quality of services. Conclusions: In general, the dental workforce practicing in NGHA experience a low level of job satisfaction. Professional and personal life, income and job security, and quality of services are all important factors affecting the level of job satisfaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
