On April 17, 2015, the Government of Romania and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) signed the Loan Agreement No 8481-RO on the implementation of the Romania Secondary Education Project (ROSE), in Washington. ROSE is a project financed from a loan of 200 million euros by (BIRD), which contributes to reducing the dropout in secondary and tertiary education and to increasing the rate of passing the baccalaureate exam. We intend, through this article, to evaluate the results of the project from the perspective of one of the sub-projects implemented by the Faculty of European Studies, within the Babeș-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, between 2019 and 2022. In Romania, the most well-known non-wood forest products (NWFPs) are represented by forest fruits, edible mushrooms and medicinal plants. The aim of this paper is to present a synthesis of forest fruits present in Vaslui County. Therefore, the most important forest fruits that were found in this area are: the raspberry (Rubus idaeus), the dog-rose (Rosa canina), the hawthorn (Crataegus sp.), the wild apple (Malus sylvestris), the Cornelian cherry (Cornus mas), cranberries (Ribes nigrum L.), the bird cherry (Prunus padus) and acorns (Quercus sp). The most important forest fruits from Vaslui County were determined by means of an analytical hierarchy process (AHP) developed by Thomas Saaty. The analytical hierarchy process has emphasized raspberries and dog-roses as the most requested and, at the same time, the most important forest fruits from Vaslui County. Using the analytic hierarchy process in estimating the importance of fruit species from a certain County proved to be an efficient method of classifying them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rose culture has lately begun to expand in Romania, too, on the one hand due to the financial support offered by the European Union for agriculture, and on the other hand due to the favorable soils and climate conditions. Under the circumstances, the research problem resides in finding the arguments that plead for the opportunity of expanding rose cultures in Romania, as an alternative for the economic development of the rural communities, especially of those whose members own small-size agricultural plots. The fragmentation of agricultural lands properties is a rather well known phenomenon in Romania. At the same time, some crops, in order to be profitable, must be cultivated on large areas. Thus, an alternative for the local economic development could be to take into account the niche crops, which usually bring about significant profits for the small-scale producers, who own small plots of land. The objectives of this research aimed at the following aspects: identifying the main areas for rose culture; understanding the perception of the local communities about the niche crops in Romania; and the perspectives of rose culture in Romania. The research methodology relied on direct observations, on GIS techniques, as well as on survey method (semistructured interview). The study results revealed the following: an expansion of rose culture in Romania during the past years, especially in Transylvania, where the main horticulture area is the Alba County; a different perception of the target groups about the expansion of rose culture in Romania, as long as the major problem is represented by the low market demands. Abstract: On the end of the third decade of this century, flower growers produced annual almost half million roses belonging to 2000 varieties. In 1928 year was fit out The Roses Park, the organization park of the rosarium was loaded by the best roses grower Arpad Muhle together with the horticultural director of that moment in Timisoara Mihai Demetrovici. The most efficient period of completing with species took place after 1960 and mainly after 1967 when there was made up landscaping project for a main place the architect S. Grumeza and now there is proposal for a refitting out of the park by reconditioning the utilities and introducing new roses varieties belonging different groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
