Abstract

Leu-Rotunda and Dăbuleni Fields are characterized by substantial extension of sandy soils. The sands on the left of Jiu are poli-stratificated fluvial deposits eolian shaped as dunes and interdunes. During the reported period 1980-2007, it was found that the most exposed time of the year to the wind was during the spring, the months of March, April and May as in speed and frequency. According to the analyzed data, the dominant wind direction during spring season on the sandy soils from Dăbuleni is the western, with negative effects on crops who then begin their vegetation cycle. The shelterbelts have decreased, although lately there have been numerous programs which aimed afforestation of affected areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The information that describes the actual coverage of the earth represents a strong asset in what planning and modelling our world are concerned. The quality of such an information leads to a safe simulation or prediction of results. These information are obtained from different sources such as satellite and aerial images, ground information, topographic maps and are stored and managed with the aid of a Geographic information System (GiS). in Romania two types of land cover databases were created: LCCS (Land Cover Classification System) for the years of 2000 and 2003, and Corine (Coordination of information on the environment) Land Cover 2000 and 2006. Using these two class~flcation systems comparisons were made between LCCS 2000 and LCCS 2003 and between Corine Land Cover (CLC) 2000 and 2006. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
