Objectives: To assess the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the reflux symptom score (K-RSS)., Materials and Methods: The English version of the RSS was translated into Korean and completed by 77 people (44 and 33 people in the patient group and control group, respectively). They completed the K-RSS (K-RSS-1) and reflux symptom index (RSI) questionnaires and answered questions about age, sex, underlying disease, smoking history, and alcohol and coffee consumption. They completed the K-RSS once more (K-RSS-2) after 1 - 2 weeks. Internal consistency was evaluated using Cronbach's α and test-retest reliability using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). External validity was evaluated using the Spearman rank test between the RSI and K-RSS. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to assess internal validity by comparing the K-RSS-1 scores between the patient and control groups., Results: The most common symptoms were globus sensation, throat clearing, and throat pain. The K-RSS reported high internal consistency (α = 0.894). The ICC for the total score was 0.883, indicating excellent test-retest reliability. According to the Spearman analysis, there was a significant correlation between the total score of the K-RSS and that of the RSI (rs = 0.902; P < 0.001), demonstrating strong external validity. Furthermore, the patient group showed significantly higher values than the control group in all K-RSS scores, suggesting high internal validity., Conclusion: The K-RSS is a patient-reported outcome questionnaire with excellent criterion-referenced validity and ideal reliability., (Copyright © 2021 The Voice Foundation. Background: Measuring accurate and reliable scores of quality of life in patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is important in both decision-making and treatment planning for the disease. Questionnaire, The ankylosing spondylitis quality of life (ASQoL), is one of the representative tools for assessing how seriously AS patients view their disease severity, activity, as well as their overall health. To make these types of questionnaires readable and understandable, local language translation of surveys should be required. A Korean version of the ASQoL questionnaire has accordingly been developed. This study assessed the Korean version of the ASQoL survey to evaluate the reliability and validity of it., Methods: Translation and reverse translation of the English ASQoL survey were conducted. A total of 120 consecutive AS patients received a mail including the Korean-translated 36-Item Short Form Survey (SF-36), the ASQoL survey, and the visual analog scale (pain). The coefficient of intraclass correlation and Cronbach's alpha were computed, and factor analysis, as well as reliability assessments utilizing the kappa agreement statistics for each item, was undertaken. By analyzing the responses to SF-36 and ASQoL questionnaire utilizing Pearson's correlation coefficient, construct validity was calculated., Results: Factor analysis was performed regarding pain, physical function, and mental function. The kappa statistic of agreement was larger than 0.6 for all items. The ASQoL questionnaire had adequate test and re-test reliability (0.814). Furthermore, Cronbach'sα, the internal consistency, was very good (0.877). The Korean-translated ASQoL questionnaire demonstrated a significantly strong correlation between the single domain and total SF-36 scores., Conclusions: The Korean version of the ASQoL questionnaire showed acceptable properties of measurement and successful translation. Background: Despite the significant advances in neonatal treatment and care over the past 30 years, palliative care in the neonatal intensive care unit has not been fully provided in South Korea. Neonatal nurses are essential professionals in palliative care as they are directly involved in the care, but there is little information on their palliative care competency because no assessment instrument is available in Korea., Objectives: The aim of this study was to develop and test the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the Palliative Care Nursing Self-Competence scale for neonatal palliative care., Methods: This scale for infant care was developed through parallel translation techniques and revised based on cognitive interviews. Survey data were then collected from 220 neonatal nurses who worked in 13 neonatal intensive care units in Korea. Internal consistency reliability, construct validity based on exploratory factor analysis, and criterion-related validity were tested., Results: The final version of the scale included 40 items in five domains that explained 53.4% of the variance. Criterion-related validity was confirmed based on a positive correlation with the Korean version of the attitudes towards neonatal palliative care measurement tool. The Cronbach's alpha for the scale was 0.95., Conclusions: The Korean version of the Palliative Care Nursing Self-Competence scale for infant care has satisfactory construct validity and reliability to measure palliative care self-competence of neonatal nurses in Korea and evaluate an education program in future studies., (Copyright © 2023 Australian College of Critical Care Nurses Ltd. We aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of the adapted Korean version of the Italian Spine Youth Quality of Life (ISYQOL) questionnaire. Translation/retranslation of the English version of ISYQOL was conducted, and all steps of the cross-cultural adaptation process were performed. The Korean version of the ISYQOL and the previously validated Scoliosis Research Society-22 (SRS-22) questionnaire were mailed to 120 consecutive idiopathic scoliosis patients wearing brace. Factor analysis and reliability assessment by kappa statistics of agreement for each item, the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Cronbach's α were conducted. Construct validity was also evaluated by comparing the responses of ISYQOL with the responses of SRS-22 by using Pearson's correlation coefficient. Factor analysis extracted 2 factors. All items had a kappa statistics of agreement greater than 0.6. The ISYQOL showed good test/re-test reliability (ICC = 0.812). Internal consistency of Cronbach's α was found to be very good (α = 0.873). The Korean version of ISYQOL showed good significant correlation with SRS-22 total score and with single SRS-22 domains scores. Objective: To evaluate the reliability and validity of an adapted Korean version of the Brace Questionnaire (K-BrQ)., Methods: The Greek version of the BrQ was translated/retranslated, and all steps of the cross-cultural adaptation process were performed. The K-BrQ and the previously validated Korean version of the Scoliosis Research Society-22 Outcomes questionnaire (K-SRS-22) were mailed to 120 patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Reliability assessments were conducted using kappa statistics to assess item agreements, and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and Cronbach's α values were calculated. Convergent validity was evaluated by comparing the K-BrQ and K-SRS-22 scores and discriminant validity by analyzing relationships between the K-BrQ scores and patient characteristics., Results: 103 patients filled in questionnaires twice. All items of the K-BrQ had kappa values of agreement of >0.6. The K-BrQ showed an excellent test/re-test reliability with an ICC of 0.913. The internal consistency of the K-BrQ was found to be very good (α = 0.872). The convergent validity testing demonstrated a strong correlation between the K-BrQ and K-SRS-22 (r = 712). The correlation between the K-BrQ and major curve magnitude was significant (r = -0.302)., Conclusion: The adapted K-BrQ showed satisfactory reliability and validity and is thus considered suitable for monitoring the quality of life of Korean-speaking patients with AIS during brace treatment.

This study assessed the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the 15-item Dispositional Resilience Scale (DRS-15) in a sample of Korean adults. In a baseline study conducted in June 2015, the DRS-15, Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D), and Korean Resilience Questionnaire-53 (KRQ-53) were administered to 409 Korean adults aged 20-79 years. A 1-year follow-up study was conducted in June 2016, and the CES-D was administered to assess predictive validity. Confirmatory factor analysis identified three dimensions for the DRS-15: commitment, control, and challenge (χ 2 /df = 2.32, GFI = .90, AGFI = .88, RMR = .04, TLI = .91, NFI = .89, and RMSEA = .05), and concurrent and predictive validity were demonstrated via the CES-D and KRQ-53. Furthermore, the DRS-15 established known-group validity. Cronbach's alpha coefficients for internal consistency reliability of the three subscales ranged from .75 to .83. Three-week test-retest reliability coefficients ranged from .80 to .81. The KDRS-15 showed satisfactory construct and criterion validity and internal consistency.

The Korean version of the SAQ (K-SAQ) and the previously validated appearance domain of the Korean version of the Scoliosis Research Society-22 Outcomes questionnaire (K-SRS-22) were mailed to 160 patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Reliability assessments were conducted using kappa statistics to assess item agreements, and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and Cronbach's α values were calculated. Convergent validity was evaluated by comparing K-SAQ and K-SRS-22 appearance domain scores and discriminant validity by analyzing relationships between K-SAQ scores and patient characteristics., Results: All items of the K-SAQ had kappa values of agreement of > 0.6. The K-SAQ showed excellent test/re-test reliability with an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.922. Internal consistency of the K-SAQ was found to be very good (α= 0.883). Convergent validity testing demonstrated a moderate correlation between the K-SAQ and K-SRS-22 (r=-451). The correlation between the K-SAQ and major curve magnitude was significant (r= 0.812). Discriminant validity was confirmed by significant differences in K-SAQ scores and individual K-SAQ domain scores among patients requiring observation, bracing, or surgery., Conclusions: The adapted Korean version of the SAQ showed satisfactory reliability and validity, and thus, is considered suitable for the evaluation of spinal deformity appearance in Korean speaking patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

The purpose of this study was to translate and culturally adapt the Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire to produce an equivalent Korean version. A total of 53 patients completed the Korean version of the Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire pre-operatively and 3 months after open carpal tunnel release. All 53 also completed the Korean version of the Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand questionnaire pre-operatively and 3 months post-operatively. Reliability was measured by determining the test-retest reliability and internal consistency. Test-retest reliability was assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients and paired t-tests, and internal consistency using Cronbach's alpha coefficients. Pearson correlation analysis was carried out on the Korean version of the Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire scores and the Korean version of the Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand scores to assess construct validity. Responsiveness was evaluated using effect sizes and standardized response means. The reliability of the Korean version of the Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire was good. The scores in the Korean version of the Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand strongly correlated with the scores in the Korean version of the Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire. Standardized response mean and effect size were both large for the Korean version of the Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire. The study shows that the Korean version of the Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire is a reliable, valid and responsive instrument for measuring outcomes in carpal tunnel syndrome., (© The Author(s) 2014.)

Purpose: To evaluate the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the Female Sexual Function Index-6 (FSFI-6K)., Materials and Methods: Participants were recruited from February 2013 to July 2013. The primary survey was conducted for 220 participants, and a follow-up was conducted 3 weeks (±1 week) after the primary survey. The FSFI-6K data were analyzed and compared to the reference values in the original FSFI., Results: Of the 220 participants, 199 (90.5%) returned to follow-up, 18 (8.2%) had no further contact, and 3 (1.4%) declined to respond. The internal consistency of the FSFI-6K as measured by Cronbach's alpha was 0.888 and the reliability based on test-retest intraclass correlation was 0.606; these values were acceptable. The cutoff used for diagnosis of female sexual dysfunction by an receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve was a score of 21; the sensitivity and specificity for this curve are 0.89 and 0.86, respectively. The area under the receiver operating curve was 0.948., Conclusion: The FSFI-6K has high internal consistency and acceptable reliability. This validated questionnaire can be used for the Korean population.

Study Design: Clinical measurements. Longitudinal., Purpose: To translate and cross-culturally adapt the original patient-rated wrist evaluation (PRWE) into a Korean version (K-PRWE), and to measure the reliability, validity, and responsiveness of the K-PRWE for the evaluation of distal radius fractures (DRFs)., Methods: K-PRWE was developed by forward and backward translations of the PRWE and resolution of cultural discrepancies. Sixty-three DRF patients that underwent open reduction and volar plate fixation completed the K-PRWE at 3 months and 6 months postoperatively. Grip strength, wrist range of motion, VAS for wrist pain and the Korean version of DASH were performed at 3 months postoperatively. Reliability was measured by determining test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient) and internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha coefficient). Criterion and construct validity testing was performed using Spearman's correlation test. Responsiveness was evaluated using effect size (ES) and standardized response mean (SRM)., Results: Cronbach's alpha coefficient and the intraclass correlation coefficient of the K-PRWE were 0.94 and 0.96, respectively, which indicated that the internal consistency of the questionnaire items was sound and reliable. The correlation coefficient between K-PRWE and K-DASH scores was 0.74 and between K-PRWE and VAS scores was 0.69. Responsiveness was good with an ES of 0.84 and an SRM of 0.89., Conclusions: The Korean version of the PRWE was found to be reliable, valid, and responsive to evaluate the pain and disability associated with distal radius fractures., (Copyright © 2013 Hanley & Belfus.
