A recent study conducted by researchers at Laval University in Quebec City, Canada, focused on rotational vertebral artery syndrome, also known as Bow Hunter's syndrome (BHS). BHS occurs when the vertebral artery is compressed due to head rotation, often caused by an osteophyte, which can lead to symptoms of a posterior stroke. The study conducted a systematic review of current management strategies for BHS resulting from osteophytes and presented two cases where complete resection of the bone spur effectively resolved the compression. The review emphasized the importance of timely diagnosis and intervention in such cases. Surgical decompression of the vertebral artery was found to be a safe and effective intervention for patients experiencing symptomatic osteophytic compression during head rotation, restoring normal vascular function and reducing the risk of ischemic events.
