Objective: to identify the knowledge about HIV a group of homosexual men has and the types of response facing their diagnosis situation. Method: descriptive qualitative study. The participants were selected by snowball sampling, the collection was through semi-structured interviews applied in a private office between February and May 2021 in the city of Puebla, Mexico, which were entirely recorded and transcribed. The analysis was developed through the MAXQDA program based on the six phases proposed by Braun and Clarke, adhering to the principles of bioethics and the quality criteria established for this type of research. Results: five interviews were conducted with MSM self-identified as homosexual with an average age of 27,4 years. As a result of the content analysis, five peripheral categories were found around a central category called 'MSM with HIV': knowledge about HIV, adaptive process, sexual behavior, support networks and perceived discrimination. Conclusion: risky sexual behaviors, lack of adherence to treatment, as well as erroneous knowledge and beliefs about HIV are observed, in addition to implementing interventions aimed at health professionals.
