This article presents Professor Joanicjusz Nazarko's outstanding achievements in research, scientific cooperation, teaching and organizational work, in celebration of the 45th jubilee of his scientific work. Over the years, Professor Nazarko has contributed significantly to the development of technical and social sciences in Poland. He authored more than 300 publications, which constitutes a substantial knowledge base on its own. Using bibliometric and statistical methods and techniques, we present an overview of Professor's most important scientific achievements and major works. We also highlight his efforts to establish a national and international network for scientific cooperation. Lastly, we present his didactic successes. This jubilee serves as the opportunity to recognize and honour Professor Joanicjusz Nazarko's significant contribution to the development of science in Poland. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The presented research identifies and assesses the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the development of three selected overland rail routes of the Belt and Road Initiative. The three, running through Poland, are as follows: (1) Podlaskie province, (2) Terespol, and (3) Hrubieszów. Each of the selected rail routes represents a different variant of logistic, geopolitical, and technological conditioning characterizing particular rail routes of the BRI. The research aims to gain new knowledge and identify factors influencing the BRI rail routes in the COVID-19 era, using the developed methodology based on the modified STEEPVLL and SWOT analysis. This article seeks to present possibilities for the development of a country with the use of modern research tools. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the importance of foresight in guiding innovation, which fosters entrepreneurship as well as improves the quality of life of the society. Therefore, the study put forward the hypothesis that the use of foresight as an instrument creating strategic knowledge allows for a more effective identification of significant areas as potentials for the security of the country's development. The analysis presented in this article contains data from the last eight years. The results of the studies show that in Poland there is a significant potential, which, if managed appropriately, might influence the development of enterprises, municipalities and the macro-region. Background. Knowledge of technologies is one of the elements shaping economic growth. At the same time, current technologies are characterised by a growing complexity, and their application lifecycle is getting shorter. Observation and analysis of their development has become crucial in order to protect investments linked with them. There seems to be a logical need for both proper technology management and methodology development in that area to be constituted. Research aims. The aim of the article is to present the problem of technology mapping in the scope of foresight studies as a tool of technology management. The main emphasis has been put on the identification, the subsequent analysis and the evaluation of the activities undertaken in the phase aimed at diagnosing the current state of technology in the context of foresight studies. Method. Identification of foresight initiatives which undertake operations within the scope of diagnosis of the current state of technology has been conducted through observation, document analysis, literature analysis and review. Selection of the best practices among the identified ones has been made through the assessment of the degree to which criteria defined by the author were fulfilled. Key findings. The fundamental result of the analysis conducted in the article is the identification of elements of diagnosis of the current state of technology, which can be held as recommendations in the scope of using the methodology of technology mapping. They comprise, among others, preparing technology cards, localising resources linked with technology, and the visualisation of possible relations among technologies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the article is to present the diagnosis of scenario method application in the Polish foresight initiatives. The concept of scenario method, its evolution, the state of the art of the Polish foresight studies and the critical analysis of the application of this method have been presen-ted. From the questionnaire results the authors have identified (i) the approach used in scenario construction, (ii) the most important phases of scenario construction, (iii) the interconnection of scenario method with other methods of scenario construction, (iv) the profile of experts involved in foresight projects, (v) the profile of experts involved in scenario construction, (vi) the application of the triangulation principle in scenario construction, (vii) the application of wild cards in scen-ario construction and techniques to identify them, (viii) the average time of scenario construction process, (ix) the linkage of scenarios to other documents, (x) the number of scenarios elaborated upon, and (xi) the main difficulties in the process of scenario construction. To achieve article aims there have been used the following research methods: a literature review, the method of critical analysis and logical construction, survey research, the status of Polish foresight projects, interim and final report analysis. The article presents the initial discussion of the results of research performed with a Delphi method within the project Foresight 'Modern technologies for the textile industry. A chance for Poland'. This project was done as a part of the POIG (Operational Programme Innovative Economy) for the years 2007-2013. It was aimed at identifying the directions of scientific researches and developmental works in the range of preparing a strategy for the Polish Technological Platform of the Textile Industry. The intention of the projects of the Foresight type is to direct scientific researches to fields which in the future can have a high influence on the fast economic-industrial development of a country, leading to the development of a knowledge-based economy, in accordance with the Lisbon Strategy. In the era of a turbulent and less-predictable business environment, as confirmed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the ability to efficiently use human resources has become particularly important. There is a need to reduce employees' competency niche, and competency mismatches have become noticeable in the European Union. We performed qualitative interviews (n = 282) to determine the competency niche of employees from private firms in Poland. Results show that employees were passive in identifying their competence needs. Moreover, firms did not use the weak signals methodology to eliminate the competency niche. This novel study found that firms should be more active in identifying employee competency niches by analyzing early signs to be ready for any changes without delays. The findings create a basis for proposing preventive measures, and we point out avenues for future research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
