The article discusses about the statistical lattice technique in the study of contemporary folk culture. The object of this article is to acquaint the reader with a statistical lattice technique for cultural research, and to attempt to demonstrate its use in the study of contemporary processes of culture change among various population groups in Lower Silesia. Study of the cultures of such groups by the comparative-historical method is not fruitful, since they have no common past with which the present situation may be compared. Until a common local cultural tradition takes root in these population groups, geographical comparisons will also be sterile. Thus, in studying a group of Polish returnees from Yugoslavia, it is necessary to make use of questionnaires reflecting the most important elements in the traditional folk cultures of Poland and Yugoslavia.
