Yield and the course of crop vegetation are the result of the interaction between the level of cultivation technology and the course of meteorological conditions, which are a variable production factor. The aim of the study was to quantify the effect of meteorological conditions on the course of development stages and yield of winter wheat cultivated in two technological variants (A1 - medium-intensive and A2 - intensive). The paper uses data on yield and timing of winter wheat development stages from four Experimental Stations for Variety Testing (Pol. Centralny Ośrodek Badania Odmian Roślin Uprawnych - COBORU) experimental stations from 2007-2016 located within the Upper Vistula and Upper Oder River basins. To determine the dependence of the length of development stages of winter wheat on the values of selected meteorological elements, the linear regression metod, correlation coefficient. It was found that the lengths of the selected developmental stages are positively correlated with air temperature and negatively correlated with the sum and number of days with precipitation in these stages. A 1°C increase in air temperature resulted in a shortening of the shooting - heading and heading - full maturity periods by 2.5 and 2.8 days respectively. An increase of 100 mm of precipitation in the periods sowing - full maturity and heading - full maturity resulted in an increase of these periods by 5 and 10 days. Increasing the number of days with precipitation by 10 days in the sowing - full maturity and heading - vax maturity stages resulted in extending these stages by 4.1 to 4.4 and 7 to 7.5 days for the A1 and A2 cropping technologies, respectively. The aim of the study was to assess the yield of three soybean varieties of different earliness classes (Merlin, Coraline, and Viola) grown using two sowing dates (early vs. optimal) and different technologies (soil protected with biodegradable film vs. without soil protection–conventional cultivation). A three-year (2019–2021) field experiment was conducted at the Bayer Technical Advisory Center in Chechło, Poland (50°23′ N 18°44′ E). The three-factor experiment was set up in a randomized split-plot design in three replicates. The experimental factors were (i) sowing date, (ii) cultivar, and (ii) cultivation technology. The effect of agrotechnical factors and their interaction with the weather on selected biometric traits and seed yield was assessed. The results indicated that the weather conditions and its interaction with agrotechnical factors significantly influenced the biometric traits and seed yield of soybean. Optimal hydrothermal conditions significantly increased analyzed parameters and seed yield. However, too much rainfall in August had negative effects on biometric traits. It was proved that, early sowing adversely affected soybean yield. Sowing at the optimal date, i.e., the end of April, resulted in a yield of 3.8 t ha−1. The use of biodegradable film in the year with more rainfall increased soybean yield by 1 t ha−1 compared to the year with less rainfall. The early 'Merlin' cultivar grown in the system with biodegradable film produced significantly more pods and seeds per plant and a higher pod weight per plant. The cultivars with a longer growing season ('Viola' and 'Coraline') responded negatively to cultivation in the modern technology. The use of biodegradable film is recommended for cultivars with a short growing season, sown at the optimal time and in regions with moderate to high rainfall totals during the growing season. Non-degradable polypropylene nonwovens are difficult to dispose and their utilization represents high economic costs. This study was conducted on lettuce cultivated during the spring and autumn seasons in the southern part of Poland to test biodegradable nonwovens as plant covers. Several nonwovens were developed from aliphatic-aromatic copolyesters (AAC), one without modifiers (SB48/11) and three with the addition of fatty acid dimers: two commercial variants (SB20/13, SB21/13) and one made from plant biomass (SB28/13). Nonwoven polypropylene (PP) fleece was included as a control cover. One week after covering with SB48/11, stomatal conductance (gs) increased in lettuce plants in parallel with higher transpiration rate (E) and sub-stomatal CO2 concentration (Ci) relative to the control, but differences in these parameters evened out in mature plants. In the spring, degradable covers with their higher mass per unit area, caused a decrease in marketable yield of lettuce compared to the control PP, resulting mainly from the deterioration of plant quality and lower mean weight per head. In the autumn season, yield was statistically not different between treatments. Yield of spring lettuces was 78% higher compared to the autumn cultivation period. Plants grown under SB20/13 had the lowest dry weight and L-ascorbic acid, while plants under SB21/13 had the highest dry weight and L-ascorbic acid content. Plants under SB28/13 had higher chlorophyll a content. Generally, no effect of covers was noted for carotenoid concentrations. The content of dry weight, L-ascorbic acid, and carotenoids were higher in plants harvested in spring, while no effects of crop season on chlorophyll level were observed. All tested biodegradable nonwovens are a potential substitute for standard polypropylene in autumn trials, but for spring covering unit weight of these materials should be reduced. In three seasons 2010-2013, field experiments with two hybrid cultivars of winter oilseed rape were conducted in three localities in Southern Poland, with the aim of assessing changes in the harvest index, as compared to the agricultural harvest index of winter oilseed rape, defined as the harvest index decreased by the stubble height in relation to three plant categories (small, medium and large). As a result, an increase in the height of the stubble of winter oilseed rape in the range of 0-60 cm led to an increase in the agricultural harvest index value by about 0.081 for cv. 'Adam', and by 0.078 for cv. 'Poznaniak'. The agricultural harvest index values were changed mostly by the vegetative seasons (p < 0.001). An increase in the height of the stubble of winter oilseed rape by 10 cm increased the agricultural harvest index of small, medium and large plants by about 0.091, 0.075 and 0.073, respectively, as compared to the harvest index values. The linear correlation between the height of the stubble of the winter oilseed rape plants and their agricultural harvest index was significant (R2 = 0.97-0.99). Depending on the factor (cultivar, locality, vegetative season or plant category), an increase in the height of the stubble of winter oilseed rape by 10 cm contributed to an improvement in agricultural harvest index from 0.012 to 0.015 g g-1. The most common cereals for faba bean (Vicia faba L.) used in intercrops is conventional oat (Avena sativa L.) An alternative to oat may be naked oat (Avena nuda L.), whose oil content and quality is double. Here, intercropping of naked oat with two different faba bean cultivars (determinate-high tannin and indeterminate-low tannin) was compared with sole crops of each species in 2006-2008. The treatments were: sole naked oat at 500 kernels m², indeterminate sole faba bean at 50 seeds m², determinate sole faba bean at 70 seeds m², and an additive series of 25%, 50%, and 75% of faba bean seeding rate mixed with the naked oat seeding rate. Our results demonstrated that intercropping increased the Land Equivalent Ratio by +3% to +9% over sole cropping. Raising the faba bean seeding rate in a mixture from 25% to 75% reduced oat grain yield from 630 (determinate cultivar) to 760 kg ha-1 (indeterminate cultivar) but increased faba bean grain yield from 760 kg ha-1. Higher yield and leaf area index (LAI) and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) values show that the indeterminate cultivar of faba bean is more suitable in mixture with naked oat. The high value of competition index (CR > 1) indicates domination and aggressiveness of faba bean towards naked oat. Winter oilseed rape (WOR, Brassica napus L.) yield is closely related to seed mass; therefore, from the cultivation perspective, studies on the relationship between seed mass and environmental and biological traits may have a certain reference significance. Based on the regression tree model (CART), this work aimed to assess the environmental and plant-architectural predictors of the single seed mass of WOR. In three-year-long field experiments in three locations in the south of Poland and with two hybrid double low cultivars of WOR, environmental and biological yield characteristics were recorded. A data collection of WOR plants, donors of 1200 siliques, and their seeds were used to construct the CART regression tree. The CART model explained the variation in the mass of seeds with the mean absolute error (MAE) = 0.71 mg. The most important predictors for the seed size were a ratio determining the height of the plant to the length of the sum of lateral shoots, the sum of degree days from the start of spring vegetation to WOR maturity, and the number of shoots per plant. The CART model showed that a higher seed mass of WOR in southern Poland resulted from the interaction of thermal conditions with the plant architecture and productivity. The bigger seeds develop in a cooler season on more bushy plants and from siliques on higher or longer shoots. • CART model was used to assess factors influencing the mass of an oilseed rape seed. • The growing degree days calculated for the spring-summer vegetation was crucial for the seed size development. • Plant architectural features of plant were the other important factors of seed-mass formation. • General CART model satisfactorily described variation in a seed mass of rape.
