This article analyzed the seasonal march of rainfall in the Philippines which is based on the pentad rainfall data averaged from 1961 to 2000. It also discusses the relation to the atmospheric circulation at the 850 hPa level. The Empirical orthogonal function analysis was applied to rainfall data to investigate the temporal and spatial features of rainfall. The result revealed two dominant modes in the seasonal march of rainfall. The first mode shows the increase of rainfall amount in the Philippines during summer monsoon. The second mode reveals the contrast between the west and east coasts in the seasonal march of rainfall.
