Objective: To assess safety and long-term efficacy of use of triamcinolone acetonide (TA) soaked absorbable gel foam dressing in Endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy in our population. Study Design: Quasi experimental study Place and Duration of Study: Armed Forces Institute of Ophthalmology, Rawalpindi Pakistan, from Jan 2016 to Jan 2019. Methodology: Endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy was performed on 103 eyes of 98 patients for unilateral or bilateral primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction or previously failed Endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy without triamcinolone acetonide. Endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy was done using a standardized technique employing a 30° nasal endoscope (Karl Storz, Germany). In addition, a gel foam (15x10x5mm) soaked with 1ml of 40mg triamcinolone acetonide was threaded along the silicone tube metallic guide and advanced to ostium at the end of procedure. Anatomical success (patent lacrimal passage on irrigation), functional success (resolution of epiphora) and complications at 6 and 12 months of follow up, were the outcome measures documented and analyzed. Results: Out of 103 cases, there were 41(39.8%) male and 62(60.2%) female patients. Mean age was 47.10±12.80 years (age range 18-72 years). Anatomical success rate of 90(87.4%) and 89(56.4%) was observed at 6 and 12 months, whereas functional success rate of 88(85.4%) was observed at both 6 and 12 months follow up respectively. No major complications were observed in our study. Conclusion: Endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy with triamcinolone acetonide is a safe and effective procedure for epiphora secondary to previous failed Endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy or primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of intralesional Triamcinolone Acetonide (TA) injection and incision and curettage (I&C) and their complications in chalazia. Study Design: Quasi-experimental study. Place and Duration of Study: Combined Military Hospital Multan Pakistan, from May to Nov 2019. Methodology: We selected individuals with primary chalazion having a size of 2mm or more, with a duration of at least one month and not resolving with conservative treatment. Our sample was divided into two groups. Group-A was given a 5mg/ml Triamcinolone injection under aseptic conditions, and the group-B had incision and curettage. Results: The overall frequency of lesion in the upper lid 53 (66%) was more than in the lower lid 27 (34%), p=0.004. The complete resolution of the lesions after the repetition of the procedure was found to be almost the same in the two groups. In comparison, the resolution duration was longer in group-A versus group-B. The complications were more in the surgical group 6 (p=0.001) than in the Triamcinolone Acetonide group 11, (p=0.004). Conclusion: Our study signifies that intralesional Triamcinolone Acetonide injection is a safe procedure, having fewer complications. For individuals with poor compliance with conservative management, Triamcinolone Acetonide injections provide an alternative with an almost equal success rate and minimal complication. Objective: To compare the mean pain score and range of motion in chronic knee osteoarthritis patients treated with intraarticular Steroid injection versus ultrasound therapy. Study Design: Quasi-experimental study. Place and Duration of Study: Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Combined Military Hospital, Pano Aqil Pakistan, from Oct 2020 to Apr 2021. Methodology: Patients were divided into two groups (50 patients in each group). One group received ultrasound therapy for six weeks, with three sessions per week. The second group received a single 80mg intraarticular Triamcinolone Acetonide. Patients in both the groups were monitored for six weeks to assess the pain score and range of motion. Results: A total of one hundred (100) patients with knee pain due to chronic osteoarthritis were included in the study. The mean age in the ultrasound group was 54 ± 4.8 years and in the intra-articular group, the mean age was 54 ± 4.7 years. The mean reduction in pain score and mean improvement in the range of motion were compared between two groups and statistically significant difference was observed (p-value <0.001). Conclusion: According to our findings, intra-articular Corticosteroid injection is more effective in comparison to ultrasound therapy. However, there were statistically significant reductions in pain scores and improvements in the range of motion in both groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Natural products have been used for several years in folk medicine. Among the natural medicated products, honey has an effective antibacterial potential to reduce oral pathogens and holds promise for the treatment of periodontal diseases, mouth ulcers, and other diseases of the oral cavity. As people are realizing that modern medicine is not the only remedy for infections today, so many of us are looking for the alternative approaches with least possible side effects. The purpose of this cross sectional study was to determine the effects of natural honey on healing of recurrent oral minor apthous ulcers. A total of 20 subjects, with minor oral ulcers (2-5 mm in size) visiting the oral diagnostic clinic of Dental Section, Sandeman provincial hospital, Quetta, for treatment of their painful ulcers were selected for this study, by either application of natural honey dressing or triamcinolone acetonide 0.5% in orabase. The ulcerations almost completely disappeared after three days treatment by natural honey dressing as compared to triamcinolone acetonide 0.5% in orabase. It was concluded that natural honey has an obvious influence on the rate of healing process of oral minor apthous ulcers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
