Hunter Steve Pinkston of Columbus, Ohio, organizes deer drives whenever he has free time. Pinkston's methods works best on farmlands where large crop fields are separated by overgrown fence lines and small woodlots. For firearm hunts, he puts drivers upwind and in the cover, posters downwind watching fields and fence lines. The strategy here consists of pushing a buck out of one block of cover, across an open field, to another piece of cover. In some instances, Pinkston has moved deer as far as a mile. After a buck crosses a field, it slows down to look for a place to hide. If the steps of a buck's escape route is properly anticipated, the bow hunters have a good chance at a standing shot.
