The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (2016) and the American School Counselor Association (2016) require supervisors to have "relevant" training in supervision, but do not specify the type of training that should be acquired. This study determines if site supervisors who have had formal training in supervision, as indicated by graduate coursework, report higher self-efficacy and receive higher ratings on evaluations from school counseling internship students than site supervisors who have not. We found no effect of supervision training on school counselor interns' (n = 60) supervisor ratings using the Student Counselor Evaluation of Supervisor form (Boylan, Malley, & Reilly, 2001). Supervisors (n = 58) who had training (e.g., in-services, continuing education, modules of graduate coursework, university workshop) rated themselves higher on the Site Supervisor Self-Efficacy Survey (DeKruyf & Pehrsson, 2011) than supervisors who had no training and those who completed a graduate supervision course.

To better understand how high school students apply their information literacy skills when conducting research and how these students carry out research projects, researchers asked a group of 289 high school seniors to complete an information literacy survey related to the research process. In addition, approximately ten percent of these students were randomly selected and asked to participate in an interview to provide more in-depth information about their perspectives on finding and using information. Results indicate the study participants were able to use library resources to locate and use information, that they used a variety of resources, and that they considered themselves successful library users. However, participants voiced a need for help in deciding which resources are best to use and how to identify important information from those resources. These high school seniors also wanted to learn more about how to use books for research. Although these students indicated they may need assistance when doing research, they rarely asked the school librarians for help. These findings are discussed in the context of the role of school librarians. (Contains 3 tables.)

Change in high school student information literacy (IL) knowledge and skills, from freshman year to senior year in high school was the focus of this quasi-experimental research project. Researchers used a free information literacy skills assessment tool entitled TRAILS (Tool for Real-time Assessment of Information Literacy Skills) to measure student IL skills. A total of 201 high school students participated in the study. Paired samples t-test results were mixed for specific TRAILS sub-categories, however, the senior mean for the total TRAILS assessment was significantly higher than the mean the participants earned on the total TRAILS assessment when they were freshman. Cohen's d effect size was 0.61. The significance of the information literacy curriculum is discussed in light of these findings.

In this study, the authors present a statistically valid typology of high-growth firms (HGFs), also known as gazelles, to determine if payroll and job growth patterns differ between groups or clusters. Cluster–discriminant analysis was conducted on a cohort of 26,104 HGFs s in Ohio, using data from the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages from 2010 to 2015. Only 1.2% of all Ohio's firms can be classified as high growth. The larger herd of gazelles grows consistently, while the other, much smaller pack experiences short, intense growth spurts. Roughly 30% of the two gazelle clusters (Consistent High Growth and Volatile High Growth) are in the information service, financial service, and professional and business service industries, compared with 18% in the low- and slow-growth cluster. The nongazelle HGF cluster has proportionately more businesses in manufacturing and the leisure and hospitality industries than the gazelle clusters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article sheds light on the scope and magnitude of community and economic impacts of urban safety net hospitals. It presents a framework for assessing these contributions, and utilizes the proposed framework to analyze the case of MetroHealth System in Cleveland, Ohio. We found that through its 3-faceted functions of clinical care, academics, and research, the hospital employs a large number of workers, purchases substantial amounts of goods and services in the local and regional marketplace, generates new knowledge, invests in human capital, anchors the neighborhood by its land and capital investments, and participates in developing a community vision. Multiple authors have reported attempts to effectively address the discovery of substance abuse in pregnancy using various mechanisms to encourage positive self-reports and urine toxicology to augment identification. In this study, we evaluated 1,251 patients with (a) self-report, (b) the Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (SASSI), and (c) urine toxicology screening to determine which modality or combination would yield the most cost-effective discovery. Combining the SASSI with the self-report was the most clinically effective and cost effective mode of discovery. This led to the development of a clinical protocol using the SASSI and self-report with limited use of urine toxicology for specific patient subgroups.
